Welcome to the thirteenth round of the first ever Vs. Tournament!
Over the coming weeks we here at the Vs. Institute will be pitting two well-known superheroes against each other and letting you determine the outcome.
This week marks the first of two semi-final rounds.
If you're just joining us, check out the winners (and losers) so far.
Round 1: Batman vs. Wonder Woman. Round 2: Lobo vs. Nick Fury. Round 3: Hancock vs. Spider-Man. Round 4: Hellboy vs. Spawn. Round 5: Mr. Fantastic vs. Wolverine. Round 6: Green Lantern vs. Superman. Round 7: Ironman vs. Peter Patrelli. Round 8: Hulk vs. Rorschach.
Quarter-Finals Round 9: Ironman vs. Nick Fury. Round 10: Batman vs. Green Lantern. Round 11: Spider-Man vs. Wolverine. Round 12: Hulk vs. Spawn.
Spider-Man had heard the stories of the “Dark Knight of Gotham City.” A masked vigilante—well, that part he didn’t have a problem with—who fought crime by killing the mobsters of his corrupt city. Like the Punisher but more insane (and scarier). While he didn’t agree with his methods, he decided he wouldn’t interfere. Until, that is, he came to New York.
Batman had heard the rumors of the Spider-Man. A super-powered crime fighter deemed a menace by all the local papers. He had a reputation for causing more trouble than he solved. But when he found out that he had a direct connection to Norman Osborn, the corrupt pretender Batman has been slowly working to expose, and the newest incarnation of the Avengers, he decided he should pay the wall-crawler a special visit.

I hate to tell you this but if Batman can single-handedly take down the entire Justice League Spider-dork doesn't stand a chance. Most of spiderman's enemies are like worse Batmans anyway.

Hehe, and here comes the Batfan logic.
"He can beat superman! So he can beat everyone!!"
I can't wait to see batman take on all the Celestials, Galacticus and his heralds, and the Spectre all at the same time. He could, you know.
Though, we can all agree that Squirrel girl has Batman's number, any day of the week.
Seriously though, Parker's got spidey sense, which means Batman can't get at him with the element of surprise. Ultimately, the bat's going to get jumped first, and that's what pushes me to vote for the Spider.
Spiderman is actually one of the few characters out there who is both super-powered and crazy prepared. Most superheroes depend on their powers to save the day, but not Pete, he can do his own investigating and sciency stuff. Also his spidey-sense negate Batman's element of surprise.
I give the victory to Spiderman.

It is always easy to be tolerant and understanding...Until someone presents an opinion completely opposite to your own.
Though the only reason he still exists is so many raving fanboys with no idea about superheros
Woe unto us, who have spent our time learning important things! We have no idea about superheros!
Do you want to know why people love write Batman to be "crazy prepared?" Because we, as humans, are absolutely in love with the idea that we could defeat powers beyond our control by simply having the resolve and determination required for such feats. Dare I say we need these hopes, but that is an entirely different discussion
You will find this theme sprinkled throughout real literature (take that, people-who-have-ideas-about-superheros), so it really shouldn't be that much of a surprise here. Hell, Batman is basically following the monomyth to a tee.
To actually contribute to the discussion:
IF:
money < super powers
intelligence < super powers
money + intelligence > super powers
THEN:
intelligence + super powers > money + intelligence
Spidey wins.

I'm nerd enough to link my WoW Armory Though I'll put it in a small font.
it doesn't really say in the set up that they are going to fight.... Spiderman doens't kill people he captures them and hands em over to the cops. I AM willing to bet batman could get out of webbing I call for a tie due to Spidermans lack of follow through.
Don't you people have any faith in the common man? Batman Is just like you or me...not some kind of spider-freak. Obviously the people voting are Christians who view Spider-man as the second coming of super human God-man.
Spidey wins this one easily(kinda like how Wonder Woman or Green Lantern should have). Bats simply can't handle Spidey's combination of speed, brains, strength, and spider sense.
@fatdogwiggle:
What?! Man I hope that was some kind of bad joke. For one, Batman is really nothing like you or me. For two, can you beat Spider-Man? Batman even making it this far in this tournament was a joke to begin with.

Have you read a comic book ever? Batman routinely takes down foes that make spider-man look lie a 6 year old girl with progeria. Look up Tower of Babel. Thats proof enough. Batman is unstoppable unless you revive his parents as zombies. Last I checked spider-dork can't do that.
Asking out a girl is like trying to cast a first turn Necropotence. Sometimes the other player will have the Force of Will to say no. You shouldn't let that stop you from trying it.

You keep bringing up the Tower of Babel...
Like, alot.
Curious. Have you read other Batman comics?
Ever heard of Nightfall? Where Bane breaks Batmans back?
Superman has defeated him several times, and nearly killed him in Superman:Sacrifice.
Deathstroke has soundly taken him out several times.
In a more expanded version, Spiderman is deemed one of the physically strongest, the smartest and the fastest super hero's in the marvel universe.
I'm still voting Spidey, but this part here really isn't true. Spider-Man's actually fairly low on the scale of Super-Strength. (I think I he can lift a car, and that's not easy for him.) He's nowhere near one of the smartest in the Marvel Universe. Or even on earth. He's smart, sure. He's really smart. But he's not super-genius level like Mr. Fantastic, Hank Pym (Giant-Man/Yellowjacket/Current Wasp), Iron Man, Bruce Banner, etc. Spidey is fast, sure, but he's not a whole lot past peak-human-condition fast. He's certainly not anywhere close to the 'super-speed' types, of which Marvel has several.
So he's certainly good at all of those things, but he is nowhere near the best at any of them in his respective universe. As far as compared to Batman, he's certainly stronger and faster, and he's probably smarter. Also, Spidey's gotten combat training from Captain-Freaking-America, which basically negates martial arts advantages Bats may have.

A card game about Presidents. Stabbing each other. With knives.
Yeah. If my old school Marvel Handbook holds true, Spiderman can lift 15 tons. The real heavy hitters in Marvel are "Class 100", meaning they can lift/press in excess of 100 tons.
Ultimatly, I feel this is an interesting fight from a writers point of view, because both of these characters are... it's hard to come up with the words. Victorious underdogs? Neither Bats or Spidey are about raw power. They are more about heart, cunning and brains. Spidey is the identifiable "everyman" who got some bizzare powers. Bats is a tragic real life person who has gone to extraordinary lengths due to the ghosts of his childhood.
It's so annoying when people bring up that Batman beat Superman. If I remember correctly, the sun was blocked out so Superman had no powers, then Green Arrow shot Superman in the ass with a kryptonite arrow. So after Superman has no powers, and then can barely stand from the kryptonite, here comes Batman who punches him in the face a few times, then leaves. I guess technically it's a victory, but take that arrow out of Superman's ass, and clear the clouds, then let's see Batman and Superman box.
i voted spiderman because he has no weakness for batman to exploit. unless batboy can get his hands on some family, i think spiderman has this one in a lock.
oh, as this is the first one i've seen, WHERE THE HELL IS CAPTAIN AMERICA!?!?!??!?! sorry, fanboy thats all : )

I vote Batman. Spiderman would win the initial fights, with his super powers and what not. But, as has been said before, he lacks the follow through. Batman would slink away and just develope something to beat the Spiderman. It's what he does best.
And, like said before. Batman doesn't kill either. Spidey has killed more people as far as I can remember. Batman will either wait for the coppers, or put them in an inescapable situation.
Honestly though, how the hell did he get this far?
They need to release some Marvel bonus content for MK vs DC, then we'll find out
Here's how I see this one going: Batman would quickly figure out (perhaps after a good thrashing) that open air is a bad choice. He'd escape and lure Spider-Man into some tight, dark place (sewer perhaps?) and wait for him.
In the meantime, he could probably analyze Spidey's webbing and come up with a dissolving agent or something. Then he'd just wait for the spider to enter his parlor (see what I did there?).
Of course, Pete's no dummy. He'd know it was a trap, but, like every hero ever, he'll go in anyway. Here's where Spider-Man could get his return thrashing. His webbing would be useless, but Batman's reliance on fear-tactics would pretty much be useless against Spider-Man (if he's good at nothing else, it's diffusing those situations with humor).
In closer fighting they are more evenly matched (maybe Batman has some kind of strength-enhancing arm braces or something). Sure, Spider-Man was trained by Captain American, but this is the god damn Batman (I hate you, Frank Miller).
As already stated, these two are the ultimate underdogs. Both could go toe-to-toe for 10 rounds and still get up for more (spitting blood and teeth). I mean, seriously, these two have had to make new costumes more than probably any other superhero in comics.
Still, in the end, I'm going to go with Spider-Man. The agility and (to a lesser degree) the strength can be compensated for with better strategy (where I think Batman has the edge) but, while Batman epidomises the spirit of the American spirit, Spider-Man embodies the human spirit. He's the underclass, hard-working, unlucky, nerd--with spider-sense.
