[Aaron Forsythe's Legacy Deck Stolen at Worlds 2009 (Rome)]

"Someone stole my Legacy deck from the Champions Challenge area! Why, humans, why?!" -- 11:07 AM Nov 20th from mobile web
I've scoured around but have heard no more on the subject. Over the last year, there have been numerous attempted or successful thefts of decks, cards, even artist's proofs, from various events. Is this occurring more, or is it just more noticable when it occurs in high profile places or to high profile players?
Thefts at events has and will always be a problem. It's sad but true. As long as our little pieces of cardboard are worth money to someone, people will try to steal or cheat them from you. Steve Port has a great rule that he calls the "Stuff Rule" and it goes something like this (I'm paraphrasing):
Quote from STUFF RULE »
If you like your STUFF, keep an eye on your STUFF or it will become someone else's STUFF. If you have to go to the bathroom, take your STUFF with you. Don't leave it with your friends because it's not their STUFF and they don't care about your STUFF. You need to keep an eye on your STUFF.
At the GP Minneapolis we were vigilant about reminding players to keep a leg through the strap on their bag while playing and just kept an eye out for anything suspicious, especially after the fiasco in Chicago, and nothing real major cropped up (that I heard about). That being said, I left all of my valuables at home or in my hotel room and only brought with me the things that I was going to need that day. Having less STUFF makes it easier to keep an eye on my STUFF.
It is awful, yes, but for god's sake BACK YOUR STUFF UP. Important stuff like that should have been backed up at least 3 or for times. I mean, I graduated something like 20 years ago, and I still got 3 hard-copys, 1 on disk and 1 on cd.
I know it hurts like hell, but it could have been prevented so easily. ( I don't mean to say that I will not castrate whoever did it, but the pain could have been a lot less.)
Yeah backing up something like your master thesis sounds smart....if you don't back up your data you're doing something very very wrong especially when it's like that.
What deck was Aaron Forsythe playing? Was it expensive or what? But sad to hear that.

"Yawgmoth," Freyalise whispered as she set the bomb, "now you will pay for your treachery."
Yeah, most of my work (and all of the original data) was backed up, but the last 4-5 weeks, stuff I'd written on the road and just before I left for the holiday, hadn't been backed up yet so it was all lost... I should have set up an automated remote backup of some kind.
I think I've rewritten most of it now, but I know there was at least one really good idea I had for the diabetes paper that I had and I can't remember what it was for the life of me. It was a flash of insight on the plane to Europe and unfortunately I haven't been able to replicate it. At least my insurance covered half of the cost of the replacing the physical laptop... MSc students don't make all that much :/
This must sound pretty bad but first my thought was I wonder what he was playing. Did he ever get it back I wonder? Thankfully the few big events I've been to there have been no thefts and the ones around here since it's such a small town everyone knows everyone.

i heard about this early last week, and i wondered why i couldn't find a thread talking about it.
