If this is real, it's strictly better than Rolling Thunder. If you want to cast Thunder doing 1 damage to each of a number of targets, or any amount of damage to a single target, Comet Storm will produce the same effect at the same price. If you want to cast Thunder dividing the damage in any other way, Comet Storm will either deal more damage or cost less mana - and all of that is without even taking into account the fact that this is an instant instead of a sorcery. This had better be rare or mythic.
Hrmm so 1RR for ping 1 to 1 target (scorching spear) = Fireball for 1R -> Fireball wins 2RR for ping 2 to 1 target (shock) = Fireball for 2R -> Fireball wins 2RR for ping 1 to 2 targets (fire (fire/ice)) = Fireball for 3R -> Tie 3RR for ping 3 to 1 target (lightning bolt) = Fireball for 3R -> Fireball wins 3RR for ping 2 to 2 targets (lunge? almost) = Fireball for 5R -> Comet Storm wins 3RR for ping 1 to 3 targets (dunno what card) = Fireball for 5R -> Comet Storm wins
discounting the "instant" part for now, just in terms of mana efficiency

Very nice, but pretty expensive really. I like that it's instant so it can resolve fast against Landfall/pay life triggers... but it's still going to cost some serious mana if you have more than one big target you NEED to kill.

its seems ok, but nothing that i would ever use. being someone who favours RDW with creatures that die at the end of the turn, i could simply use earthquake/fallout for a whole lot less.
Perhaps it would be decent in a goblins deck as a late game one sided wrath.

hmm I guess mythic can go around it, but doesn't this contradict the reason they made spire barrage a sorccrey

We like spells that can do large or unbounded amounts of damage to players like Searing Flesh and Corrupt to be sorceries, partially because they feel like big and dramatic effects and partially so they can't sneak under counterspells so easily. Aaron's dismissal without context is, however, awesome.
it has versatility, and it doesn't hit your own creatures, thats about it. its why people run mind spring in blue decks, because they can use it whenever they want, whether it be mid-late game, and they will still get maximum benefit from it.
The only saving grace for the card is that it's an instant, thus can be used at EoT. Doubt it'd see play in anything other than a ramp deck. Like people have said, Fire (/Ice) at 4 is quite terrible.

It looks a lot better at 6 mana, with being able to do 2 to 3 guys or 3 to 2.
Agree much with Clan Iraqs assessment... but not all of that stuff can hit players.
Why not just play Earthquake?
Earthquake burns you, which affects your life in a race. Earthquake kills all of your non flying creatures (you are red, wtf are you doing? playing a dragon deck?). Yeah earthquake is better multiplayer woohoo...
you play it because its better to pay 8 (5RR, + 1 kick = 8), and not only blast that damned Baneslayer but also 5 to your opponents dome.
