[DCI] New retail store promo - Retaliator Griffin

In a local Target, I saw some "Extreme Value Package"s with a theme deck and a foil Retaliator Griffin in them. The packages cost $5; the theme decks seem to be from Time Spiral and Lorwyn blocks.

Didn't they do this previously but the promotional card was Broodmate Dragon? Anyway I don't like the promo card and will never use those decks so I'm bleh about this.

There have been similar promotions with Broodmate, as well as Brion Stoutarm and Jaya Ballard, Task Mage.

Awesome, these are back! I saw the same deal... mid last year. Old theme decks at Target were priced $5 and I think had something covering the front (random cards maybe?) so you didn't know exactly what theme deck you would get...but you could guess the expansion if you knew your theme boxes.

I have the Time Spiral ones, but might check out my Target over the weekend for any Lorwyn ones.

Disappointment in that they couldn't keep the card quality up after Broodmate. Retaliator Griffin is such jank.

No one can even find the freaking Broodmate Dragon. They should release more of those instead of moving onto another card that's not any good.

Thanks for sharing LSK. So by now, after Jaya and Broodmate, it is pretty obvious that these promos won't have alternate art? That's too bad.

Also I'm surprised to see another retail promo from Alara block

Seconded. I did not know that the Broodmate existed until it was mentioned in this thread, and I have the other two for my cube. Would love a Broodmate.

Plus, these are different from the Broodmate and Jaya promos. Those were packaged along with 3 random booster packs.

On a side note, $4.99 is a pretty sweet price for a theme deck and a promo.

i wish my target and walmart would get these promo's in. "shakes fist at small town minnesota". my target just got magic back in stock after not having anything for like 3 months. i would have got a few of the broodmate promo's if i could but again stores in my area just don't have them. "Grumbles about cheep promo's and goes off to eat dinner"

Which precons from Time Spiral and Lorwyn blocks are the best?

I have enjoyed "Future Shock" for the novelty - and "Rebels Unite" was a nice start to my now pretty nasty Rebel deck. Haven't bought any others from these blocks.

The Target by me has had the shipment from their distributor sitting in sealed boxes nest to the cards shelves for most of the week. I've been waiting for them to open it all up because I wanted to pick up an Alara foil pack. I stopped there on the way home from work today (before seeing this thread) and noticed they didn't have any foil packs, but they did have these.

I bought 2. Normally, the "decks" are inserted in a way so you can only see the card backs and have no idea what's in them. On all of these, you could see the top card. Most had the "Do no shuffle this" sticker from the 2 player set decks - except for the 2 I bought. One had the Guildpact Gruul themedeck and the other had a land pack of snow covered lands.

thats a theme deck? i got one today at tagrget, seemed to me to be more of a time sprial tourney pack out of the package and the foil included.

anyways, i never saw the broodmate, but i totally went to both walmart and the gey and nuthin

Ok... checked out my Target and have questions... The non-promo cards were not in a theme deck box like LSK's pics, just loose or shrink wrapped (can't remember) and couldn't tell what they were....

Any body opened these type? Is it a theme deck? Tourney deck? Random crap?

I would buy many theme decks for $5 if I knew what it was.... otherwise rather save the 5 for my next singles buy...
