Wrexial, the Risen Deep3UUB
Legendary Creature - Kraken (Mythic)
Islandwalk, Swampwalk
Whenever Wrexial, the Risen Deep deals
combat damage to a player, you may
cast target instant or sorcery card from
that player's graveyard without paying
its mana cost. If that card would be
put into a graveyard this turn, exile it
instead.

Card #120/145

I've found my new EDH general. I love that he dual landwalk abilities, and that effect is nothing to scoff at. probably silly in limited, but honestly, i won't see him often enough to make a legitimate decision about his effectiveness (other than as a beater) for a while.
I'm a fan though.

I would love to see proof of this. Not that I disbelieve you at this stage of the game, but mostly because I want to see the actual card itself, because that ability at that cost with those stats made me O.o a bit. Then again, Mindleech Mass saw no play in Standard as I recall.
Well, we know what it does. Probably will see play in EDH. As for standard, 8 toughness and being black makes it immune to a lot of common removal (any burn, Doomblade and ilk, any -x/-x card), but it's still vulnerable to Path, Pulse, DoJ, Journey, O-Ring, and several other commonly-played removal spells. For 6 mana, it seems like you could do better (Admonition Angel seems to pose a larger threat).
If only it could have traded one of those landwalks for Shroud, it maybe could have been a contender.

Assuming it's right, it reminds me of Mindleech Mass, in flavour and power level.
Two mana less than Mindleech Mass makes this more likely to see some play, especially given that even an unanswered Mindleech could be mitigated by simply playing spells out of your hand.

Shroud is worth a lot more than a landwalk.
Memory Plunder on a stick, with an extremely impressive body for six mana. The landwalk abilities are just gravy, but extremely good gravy.
Honestly, I think he would have a chance if we didn't have Sphinx of Jwar Isle. Even then, he's still very good.
Xpt he isnt stoped by a baneslayer and while he cant outrace one, His first hit would almost def. be able to rip a removal spell from the yard to kill it, his power is hard to judge at this point, he could be amazing or just meh.

The ability to cast Harm's Way to redirect some of this guy's combat damage to yourself so you can also plunder a card from your own graveyard makes me giggle inside.
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.

I think the coolest thing about this card, is that if you use Quest for Ula's Temple, you can cast this for free fairly early, and then have your hand full of counter-removal spells. I'm telling you, that Quest is the best card in Blue for this set. It can go online turn 3 and then you just start throwing Inkwell, this guy, Lorthos (who cares if you need 8 mana for his win condition, he's an 8/8) and Nemesis of Reason??
Those are huge guys with amazing abilities for Turn 3. Throw in Spreading Seas to trigger the islandwalk on Inkwell and his buddy, Wrecks 'yall. I can't wait to make this deck. Best thing about it is it can be played in Monoblue...Yay!!! They made SOME good blue cards! (3)
On topic: Power/toughness ratio and three abilities is surprisingly efficient for its cost. Methinks Spreading Seas has another new friend in this one.

Ah, you can't do that.

Just amazing. Duress is just begging to be maindecked now. =V
Maybe as a 1-of in casual mill decks?

Pauper Cube
I cube, I play EDH, and I can't afford Legacy. The other formats can suck it.
This kraken will see a lot of love... or at least I hope it does. There have been a few mythic cards that were hyped up, then not used at all.
At least casual decks will DEFINITELY get a blast out of him. Yup, a mill deck will have much fun here...
May be playable in constructed too makes wwk that more appealing to me anyway
