Round three of the Vs. Villain Tournament! Right here. Check out the bracket spoiler which has info on the contenders and links to the other rounds (which you can vote on for the next two weeks).
Sylar battled with his fear of dying alone and struggled to become “normal” again. This proved fruitless as the hunger became too much for him to ignore. Finally submitting to the monster inside him, he decided that his last act of humanity would be to take everyone else out.
He remembered that another “special” individual had held the world ransom by realigning the poles of the earth.
After several weeks on Genosia Sylar has used his abilities to infiltrate Magneto’s inner sanctum. He realizes he can’t fight him on his island (the old man has too many fail safes), but he’s convinced him to make a trip to San Francisco to address the UN. This is where Sylar plans to take the power of one of the most powerful mutants alive in order to do what he never could: destroy its inhabitants indiscriminately.

Sylar. No contest. He can do ANYTHING. Yes he's emo. Yes, RIGHT NOW, he doesn't want his powers, but that's because Tim Kring can't keep consistent character emotions (not that that's part of this battle). There really is no contest here. Sylar CAN'T DIE. Remember? He took Claire's power.
He could do it on Genosia. He could do it anywhere. This isn't even really a contest. People who pick Magneto are probably just people who don't watch Heroes, which makes this particular event moot and slightly weighted.
In an eight player game, is anything good? Don't you just sit there countering combos until someone genesis waves for 42 after all the blue players tap out fighting over a bribery?
Magneto ALSO can't die.... well as long as there is magnet energy ANYWHERE (like the core of the earth) it will nurse him back to health and full power. His powers thourgh the comics range from Uber to Godlike..... Allys might be the endding factor here and frankly Eric has the perk of likely being able to convince Prof X to screw syler over (its for the betterment of mutants and human kind the old Illumanti bastard DOES brake his own rules) I have no doupt that he could escape the inital assult even with suprise.... this is a close match in the end I would say Eirc has the upper hand just due to allys and being used to faceing uber foes

You really have no idea what Magneto's powers are. Magneto can survive in space. He just turns on his shield while in earth and the air inside it stays there. Where did it show that Sylar can survive in space? Magneto can just decapitate Sylar or pierce several metals at the back of Sylar's head even if Sylar's achilles heel at the back of his head is hard to find.
This is pretty heavily in Magneto's favor. He's a hell of a lot smarter than Sylar, way older (but his body is probably in its 30s), and his powers are ridiculous and way more under control than Sylar's. We're talking about a man who could handle the X-Men, a team of super-heroes with more experience than Sylar and with his range of powers.
Sylar can be a badass at times, but he's nowhere near taking on Magneto.

I would very much like to see this.... namely Eric has the power of Magnitism have you ever tried ripping aparent two STRONG magnets that don't want to be unstuck? Eirc has delt with people like Ceveras and Apocolips not to mention the Xmen and the combine force of all of earths Military.........
I feel heros and Sylar are poorly conceived. Magneto is a much better character in all regards and all respects, artistically to actual perceived fantasy of his power-level.
i'm gonna have to give this to magneto. if only as a final resort, he could just pull every last piece of metal he could and seal sylar in as big of a metal mesh/cage/closure/etc and fuse the thing permanently shut.

Heroes is pretty bad right now, and was merely entertaining when it was at its best.
But to say that the character is poorly conceived in the face of a comic book character is laughable. Comic Books are wildly heralded as the modern forerunners of simplistic characterization; unconvincing character motivations; poorly written, campy dialogue; and inconsistent, downright self-parodying internal continuity.
I had no idea Magneto could heal himself with magnet energy, because that is the stupidest thing mankind has ever conceived. Similarly stupid is Sylars list of abilities, among which once and may yet still (see: stupid) include the ability to turn solid objects (e.g. metal) into liquid. He can also control electricity, which would likely allow him to do something with magnetic fields as well. Speaking of which...
Can Sylar just take Magneto's power? Due to Sylar's first power (empath/intuitive aptitude), if he can take Magneto's, then he will understand how it works and how to use it better than Magneto, or at least as well as (assuming Magneto has truly mastered his own power).
Sylar can/might also be able to fly, disintegrate things, shape shift, detect lies, manipulate sound, perform alchemy (turn things into gold, perhaps do other things with metals), and see the future.

Most of sylers telepathic abiltiys won't work. Eric has a helmet that was desgned to stop all telephic abilitys from working on him. (If it can stop Prof X someone who can literaly wipe out ALL human life with alittle concentration likely works on his parlor tricks. )
As for Stupied healing with magnetic energy... you know we are actuly expermenting with megnetic energy healing in the real world right? While his are exagerated (its a comic book as you said) it does have real world applications.
I think people aren't giving Sylar enough credit. The guy has more powers than he knows what to do with them.
He has half a dozen powers to take off Magneto's helmet. But of course, like all popular comic book characters, Magneto has received countless upgrades.
I still give this one to Sylar for the sheer number of powers he can try on Magneto.

It is always easy to be tolerant and understanding...Until someone presents an opinion completely opposite to your own.
Seriously, what powers does Sylar have to be able to even take out his helmet? Magneto has a powerful shield. While Sylar is busy figuring out or trying to take out his helmet, Magneto will launch ALOT of metal objects, create magnetic pulses or just crush him with the shield itself.
I cant really see Sylar winning this. No matter what power Sylar has, Magneto has already faced someone who has those same powers.

Even with Sylar's arsenal of abilities, he only uses like 3: Telekinesis, Lightning, and Shape-shifting. That's it. He's not particularly experienced with the others because he never uses them, so to try them out on Magneto would be ridiculous and suicidal, because he just can't be as effective with them as his other powers.
Also, Sylar is pretty much a moron, along with most of the characters on that show. He has the power to make glass explode, one of his main enemies wears glasses ALL THE TIME, and he has never taken the opportunity to permanently blind him. He simply isn't tactically minded enough to take on a seasoned veteran. If HRG can generally best him, think about how he'd fare against someone older, wiser, in better shape, and with super powers will do again Sylar.

Wrong, Sylar's original ability, as I have said, was intuitive aptitude. He knows how things work. He doesn't use those abilities because the Heroes writers are horrible, the show lacks such a budget now, and even with great writers, a character with that many abilities would be hard to balance.
He has the power to make glass explode, one of his main enemies wears glasses ALL THE TIME, and he has never taken the opportunity to permanently blind him.
Sylar has many, many ways to cripple Noah if he wanted to. I think it's a false assumption that he isn't "tactically minded" because he never kills or mutilates Noah. I'm sure I could pull hundreds of similar situations where Magneto has done the same. What is Magneto's ratio of main character mutants murdered : main character mutants not murdered? Oh wait, I'm sure I would have to specify one of ten different story lines to get an answer; never mind.
There's really no way Sylar can win at this point, and I guess I don't care that much in the end. It would have been nice to have such a wildcard go further though: a powerful yet flawed (yet still somehow not complex or compelling - bravo, NBC) character to really make you think about a certain situation.

Yeah, I was expecting more votes for Sylar, but Magneto is going to be a hard guy to beat. (He's the no. 1 villain according to IGN.)
And there's a couple more wildcards in store. I think round 7, in particular, will be interesting.
