The roasted wild boar sat on the spit untouched. It had been made for the village's feast but nobody was in the mood of eating right now. Tonight's feast was supposed to culminate the last three days of celebration that had accompanied the reunion of all the friends of the village but it was not to be. From all over Gaul (and even some from other lands) anyone who had helped the village even a little bit had come to celebrate with the tiny village of indomitable Gauls. However the discovery of a body right before the feast was about to start changed everything. With grim resolve, everyone in the village agreed that they would put the wild boar on hold until the perpetrators of this grisly act could be found and brought to justice.

RULES (stolen from Ace, to make my life easier:
1. Have fun! Also, make sure that you respect the other players in the game.
2. The moderator (mod) for this game is Skander.
3. Please bold your votes/unvotes like this: Vote Skander and Unvote Skander. Only bolded votes (or votes otherwise distinguished from your normal text formatting, provided that the particular formatting of the vote remains constant) will be counted. Please unvote before revoting.
4. Lynches will be caused by majority votes. Once the last vote required to lynch a person is placed, that lynch is locked in, and no amount of unvoting will affect it. Players may continue to post at this stage, though (twilight), until the mod announces that night had begun. If a majority vote for a No Lynch (Vote No Lynch), then the day will end with nobody being lynched.
5. Please do not edit or delete your posts. If a player is found to have edited or deleted one of their posts, that player will immediately lose the game and be replaced or modkilled, depending on the circumstance. On the same note, please do not use invisitext.
6. Please do not post during the night, or when you are dead. The one exception to this rule is the “bah” post, a single post with no game-related information in it which you may make immediately following your death. This is usually just the word “bah”. I ask that you restrict yourself to just the word "bah", saying any more than that might unintentionally give away information that should not be revealed.
7. Please do not talk about this game outside of this thread, unless your role allows you to (this applies also to talking about any other active games in this thread). If you role does allow this it, then please make sure that the mod receives a copy of any dialogue that occurs outside this thread (usually, this can be done by CCing PMs to me). In addition, if you have the ability to talk with other players outside this thread, please only do so at the times outlined in your PM.
8. Nights will usually have an action deadline of 72 hours (3 days), and the following day will begin immediately after that. Days will have deadlines set only at the mod’s discretion. If a day reaches a deadline, and a lynch has not occurred, then the day will end in No Lynch. If a night reaches a deadline, all players with possible actions that haven’t sent one will be counted as not taking an action.
9. Please post regularly. One post every 72 hours is the minimum, but I would prefer an average of around one post per 36 hours (1-2 days) from each of you. Any player who has failed to post in a 72 hour period will receive a prod (via PM). If a player prodded this way then fails to respond to the prod for a further 72 hours, they will lose the game and be replaced. Players may be exempt from the entirety of this rule for periods of time, providing that they have good reason to be, and that they notify the mod well before any period of time where they will be unable to post for any reason. Such players may wish to note that if an absence of more than 168 hours (7 days), you may be better off requesting replacement.
10. If a player has been replaced out for any reason, that player may not continue posting, even if the replacement player has not been found yet.
11. The mod reserves the right to modkill a player, if they believe modkill intervention to be the best course of action, or if they believe that a modkill would be wholly beneficial to the gamestate. Ideally, there will be no need for such intervention, which will only happen in extreme circumstances.
14. Please try to not quote your role PM, nor paraphrase too closely. If I believe that a player has done either of these in an attempt to gain an unfair advantage, they will be modkilled. If I believe that a player has done either of this with the intention of being modkilled, modkilling will likely be the least of the punishments. If you have any questions about what you can or can't say, please PM the Mod.
15. Any player that is modkilled for any reason loses the game
16. Have fun!
I feel the need to reiterate one rule because it generally gets broken once each Basic: DO NOT EDIT OR DELETE YOUR POSTS (even for fixing typos or grammar). This will likely result in a modkill.

Here is the structure of a typical vanilla town role PM:
You are Character Name, vanilla townie.
You are a vanilla townie. You have no special abilities. You win when all the mafia are dead.
Several lines of flavour will exist here. Really only several sentences worth. Maybe a brief description of who you are or something like that.
Things get off to a heated start.
"Where is he?" demands Bolmedias.
"This has gone on far enough," someone else mutters.
ZeDorkSlipeur, intrigued by the comments, inquires as to what's going on. Everyone turns around in shock as they realize he was with them the whole time.
Day 1 has begun. With 12 alive it takes 7 to lynch.
lol Exsam. Bolmedias is incredibly bad at mafia, plus he's just a beginner. I've played in a game with him before, and you really can't trust general scum-tells with him. This is a scumbuddy post. "Freudian Slip", however is a scumtell. FOS: Exsam
Too many different votes. I am going to jump on this bandwagon, I will change my vote if a believable role call is made. As town, we need to put pressure on someone, we also can't let mafia side track us with their accusations.
I am just saying, day one will end with someone role claiming and then lynch if we don't believe it (and then jumping to the next person). I don't think there is much value in over analyzing what people are saying at this stage - wait for the first few deaths or mafia outing and then see who supported who.
I was simply voting for someone who already had two votes to speed up the process.
Alright Guys, for everyone who hasn't seen bolmedias before (all of you except me), PLEASE before you make any other decisions read his other continuing game (coffehouse mafia), and I assure you he is acting the same way, albeit a little bit better since he's less of a noob.
I really haven't seen anything concerning if he's scum or not, and there really has only been 20 posts so I don't feel bad for not having a read.
..... wow. He's actually made 2 votes. Thats 1 less than both me and ZDS (*cough cough* gleng, *cough cough*)
FOS: Gleng
Zunemi, You don't make a joke, (so I assume you're not randoming), but you FOS me, you don't state the reason, and you don't FOS bolmedias? I'm not saying FOSing bolm is the move, but I don't see what I could have done that would incriminate me that wouldn't incriminate bolm.
I have played mafia about 3 times before in another forum. When I was mafia, I was generally very cautious about committing to anything, (trying to avoid making any suspicious posts). When I am town I am much more talkative. I would be inclined to start voting for someone who hasn't made any votes, or hasn't supported or accused anyone yet. Town can only post in this thread while mafia can talk to each other so for if two people were making the same commitment to the game, then mafia would appear to post less.

That being said:
Unvote Bolmedias Vote: Flew
This doesn't help, but hurts you're case. Saying when i'm town I act X, then acting X is a scumtell. It just is. You also back off as soon as you get pressured even though to somebody who didn't know bolmedias, or wasn't familliar that noob play could be similar to scum play, you're vote is justified.
If you're going to do a random-vote, at least make it sound random, and you should always give a reason for voting even if its a bad one.
I just don't think much valid information can be gleamed without any kill information, a vote for one person is as good as another - but the least suspicious people in my eyes are the people who have been posting the most.

Translation: Here's how I'm going to play. I'm certainly not scum, for if I were, I would surely have told you!
You're wrong about scum lurking. Good scum will contribute as a townie would. If it were so easy to pick scum, we could simply lynch lurkers and be done with it.

You seem really quick to defend Bolmedias against a random vote, a lot of random suspicion spreading as well. Is that fence you're sitting on comfortable?

"OH IT WUZ JUS RANDUM" is a bad excuse. You're vote did not look or sound random, so it shouldn't be treated as such.
I was actually trying to say how MY post was a scumbuddy post '-_-, sorry if it was ambiguous.
It's quite comfortable, thank you. Tell me, how's being opinionated on someone whose barley posted, and OMGUSing working out for you?

I know, Confirm vote.

It was the random phase, what else am I supposed to do but take one of a few posts and vote for reactions? I got one too.
Give us some explanation. You can't just say this bar is gold because its a bar of gold.
I can actually just say that, doesn't mean you have to believe me. I can also say this Duck is a Duck because it quacks, walks and looks like a Duck.
I thought the quotes were self-explanatory. Gleng's thinking is almost exactly the same as mine was in my first game.
Newb townies tend to lean towards relying purely on hard data and want to end the day quickly to get that information, they don't realize that this sort of thing plays right into the scums hands.
More information is good and the town can get quite a bit of data by seeing how everyone reacts without ever needing hard data.

Okay, so BOTH games that I've played in so far have had little-to-no random phase. Coincidence?
Look, assuming that we are now playing seriously...thanks for that one gleng...Unvote. Far too early to get any reads on people, although I really don't like how Gleng to me appears to be noob hunting right from the word go. I mean, Joboman and ZDS had made less votes than I had...but you voted for me.
Bolm stop it right now. You accused me of noobhunting last game, and you are now accusing gleng. Nobody is noobhunting ATM. If somebody attacks you it isn't because of noobhunting, its because you act scummy all the time.

Slow down. If that where the case, then the mafia could kill at random, and we would be unable to determine who was mafia, and lose most games. Town wins happen when we have long days, that let us press multiple players, and give the mafia plenty of chances to mess up and say something stupid. I'd FoS you, but what your doing seems more like bad town play then scum play.
You cannot be serious, I use a well known meme as the sole reasoning behind my vote and you think it was a full on attack?
You sir, are overreacting.
I don't get which meme you're reffering to. I think you meant it.
Actually NO U are overreacting, good sir. I voted for you, and then you take the attitude that my arguments are bull, but you're going to answer them anyways? You're being way to defensive, why be scared of just one vote?
I know, Confirm vote.
Ok.
It was the random phase, what else am I supposed to do but take one of a few posts and vote for reactions? I got one too.
You can't say that somehting was ZOMG RANDOMIN, but you were being serious by fishing for reactions.

First you start with an "I do what I want!" kind of attitude, and then you go to explain in depth why you did what you did. Something doesn't add up about you.

I understand how long days are good. The games I have played in the past have had quite strict deadlines, with random accusations quickly turning into mass votes to bring out a role claim. Pressuring for role-claims from people who I find suspicious is not terrible, although I admit I was a bit enthusiastic. Bad role claims make good a basis for votes, and I always assumed that we will get at least one role-claim today, maybe 2 or 3.
What is the time limit for lynching? (apologies if it is written on the first page)
I don't get which meme you're reffering to. I think you meant it.
Common Mafia meme based off the X Y is X meme. Obvious scum is obvious, I just added a little twist to make it fit he situation better.
Actually NO U are overreacting, good sir. I voted for you, and then you take the attitude that my arguments are bull, but you're going to answer them anyways? You're being way to defensive, why be scared of just one vote?
What in the world are you talking about?
1. You have NOT voted for me this game. What you have done is FoSed me and just about everyone else who has said anything.
2. Your argument is bull. Me calling your scum-buddy on a slip and you defending him by attacking me is NOT a scum-tell on me. We call this a deflection folks.
3. I'm not being defensive, I'm attacking a player(you) who I think is scum.
You can't say that somehting was ZOMG RANDOMIN, but you were being serious by fishing for reactions.
Yes I can, that is the whole point of the random phase. Fish for reactions by making random votes to get the game going.
If no one had made any mention of my vote I would have let it pass because it can just be a common mistake. Instead you deflect by attacking me while defending Bol.
We got a live one here folks, I'm starting to feel like this will be just as easy as Basic 13.
First you start with an "I do what I want!" kind of attitude, and then you go to explain in depth why you did what you did. Something doesn't add up about you.
I don't like being told what I can and cannot do and I also felt it necessary to elaborate my reasoning since at least one person(guess who) didn't get it.
I also felt that since this is a Basic game it might be a good idea to explain to the new players why a quick lynch is a bad thing.

As far as I know, there is no fixed time limit. As long as we keep making progress, we could likely go a couple weeks before one is imposed, although the final decision is, obviously, Skander's.
No. The only reason why you would need to know this is to fake claim.
I would just like to know if some roles are deemed "too complex" for basic games. For instance is this likely to be a 3 mafia, 1 doc, 1 cop, 7 vanilla townie deal? Or can there be a bit more to it. I am only asking this since this is my first mafia game on this forum.

I could say that I caught Gleng in a "slip" by him acting scummy, so is you're attacking me mean that you are his scum-buddy?
3. I'm not being defensive, I'm attacking a player(you) who I think is scum.
If you're so sure I'm scum then it doesn't make any sense for you to go in depth when I make an accusation, because after all, you think i'm scum and so my opinion doesn't matter.
Yes I can, that is the whole point of the random phase. Fish for reactions by making random votes to get the game going.
In the games i've seen, random voting is basically random until somebody makes a slip, not fishing for reactions. the "gone fishing" response is scummy.
If no one had made any mention of my vote I would have let it pass because it can just be a common mistake. Instead you deflect by attacking me while defending Bol.
Wouldn't you have to attack bol in the first place for this to happen?

Why would you want to know besides doing a convincing claim?
Why not? I am just curious and would like to be more informed. I am not asking for detailed information here, just general information that would be easily available if I were to take the time and read some of the other games.
Saying X Y is X is definitley a meme, but saying X Y is Z, is not.
Fair enough, I thought it was an amusing variation at the time.

I personally think gleng is newb town so the fact that you are trying so hard to attack him makes me all the more sure you're scum.
If you're so sure I'm scum then it doesn't make any sense for you to go in depth when I make an accusation, because after all, you think i'm scum and so my opinion doesn't matter.
Speaking of making absolutely no sense.
Of course your opinion matters no matter what alignment you are.
If you're scum then your responses can lead to figuring out who your scum buddies are.
If you're town your responses could lead to me believing such a thing.
The fact that you just used such a tactic in an attempt to make me stop responding to you is horribly scummy.
In the games i've seen, random voting is basically random until somebody makes a slip, not fishing for reactions. the "gone fishing" response is scummy.
Guess what, he made a slip while attempting to make a joke. I voted him as both a joke in the random phase AND to see how he would react(which in case you aren't getting it is the ENTIRE POINT of the random phase). To my surprise you start attacking me for it which makes me think you're his scumbuddy who overreacted and is trying to deflect attention off him.
Also voting for reactions is NOT a scum-tell, it is scum-hunting.
Wouldn't you have to attack bol in the first place for this to happen?

It can vary depending on the Mod and the design but most of the time you'll see 6 vanilla town and 3 town power roles against 2 vanilla scum and one power role scum(usually roleblocker).
It is pretty much guaranteed that there will not to be any role which would cause the mod to have to lie to the players.(Miller, Mafia Don).

Okay, experienced players have information that new players have not. You want to keep this information for you? Well, this is the scummiest thing I've ever read.
In the case of gleng being scum, if he wants to learn something about the common roles in basic games, don't you think he would ask the other scums?

If you're so sure I'm scum then it doesn't make any sense for you to go in depth when I make an accusation, because after all, you think i'm scum and so my opinion doesn't matter.
"Don't defend yourself, it is scummy!"
If you attack, shouldn't him defend? Or do you prefer to lynch him easily?
In defense of joboman, he could just be acting aggressively to pressure other players/get reactions. Instead of putting pressure on him, I would prefer to put pressure on someone who hasn't yet contributed much to this thread so far. We can still pressure him later by reading his previous posts after we find out who of who isn't scum. I'm not convinced that someone who has been so active accusing people is likely to be mafia, since fence sitting is less suspicious.
This is why sleeping is a bad idea, I've missed so much already.
All I can say is that I think that Gleng is really playing oddly. Have you really had any experience outside of MTGS?
A little bit, but I am no expert. I find analyzing posts for 'tells' somewhat difficult and analyzing votes and claims much easier. I would be more comfortable if there was more bandwagon jumping and forced role claims, but I am sure we will get to that.
Fair enough, I thought it was an amusing variation at the time.
So do you still think its "scummy" to attack you when you're attack didn't sound random?

I personally think gleng is newb town so the fact that you are trying so hard to attack him makes me all the more sure you're scum.
I think the same about bolmedias, so if you are attacking him should I be sure you're scum? bad argument.

I'm not that bad. I saw a baseless attack early in the random phase that didn't look random, and after I ask you about it you attack me for scumbuddying?

Bad attack is bad. How was I supposed to know it was random? You're also taking what you think I'm doing really far to say that I want to lead the lynch of the town? and on just one bad post? No.

Okay, experienced players have information that new players have not. You want to keep this information for you? Well, this is the scummiest thing I've ever read.
You can't say that two things are the scummiest things you've ever read. I saw his asking as a sign that he was trying to prepare a believable fake-claim.
In the case of gleng being scum, if he wants to learn something about the common roles in basic games, don't you think he would ask the other scums?
I don't know, wouldn't you be able to answer this better
"Don't defend yourself, it is scummy!"
If you attack, shouldn't him defend? Or do you prefer to lynch him easily?
Okay I made a bad argument there.
Guys, I don't see why I'm being put under so much attack for thinking a random vote wasn't random, even when it didn't look random.
The Bolmedias / Exsam / Joboman trio is to self-focused to be readable at the moment. Only thing I can make out of it is Joboman is still as prone to overreacting and over interpreting as he was in Basic #15 (where he was town).
*sigh* Since my responses to Joboman are apparently tl;dr I'll keep this one short and sweet.
Actually NO U are overreacting, good sir. I voted for you, and then you take the attitude that my arguments are bull, but you're going to answer them anyways? You're being way to defensive, why be scared of just one vote?
Bolded emphasis mine.
You have not voted for me which makes it very suspicious that you lied about it in order to further an OMGUS argument that I am reacting to your vote.

Completely agree. An FoS is not a vote...it's just an FoS, so what's the point of threatening it but not actually using it? An FoS is meant to threaten a vote, but I see no reason why Blue_fever should be holding back on an FoS when all it does is show your suspicion.
FoS: Blue_Fever
I wasn't threatening a vote, I was just trying to point out that, despite criticizing him in my post, I don't think he's scum.
I just don't understand why you were so hesitant with an FoS.
Because I don't suspect him. After having criticized him I was trying to point out that his play is much more consistent with an overanxious town player then it is scum.

This will likely result in a modkill.

I was simply voting for someone who already had two votes to speed up the process.
I really haven't seen anything concerning if he's scum or not, and there really has only been 20 posts so I don't feel bad for not having a read.

Unvote Bolmedias
Vote: Flew
This doesn't help, but hurts you're case. Saying when i'm town I act X, then acting X is a scumtell. It just is. You also back off as soon as you get pressured even though to somebody who didn't know bolmedias, or wasn't familliar that noob play could be similar to scum play, you're vote is justified.
If you're going to do a random-vote, at least make it sound random, and you should always give a reason for voting even if its a bad one.

You're wrong about scum lurking. Good scum will contribute as a townie would. If it were so easy to pick scum, we could simply lynch lurkers and be done with it.
You seem really quick to defend Bolmedias against a random vote, a lot of random suspicion spreading as well. Is that fence you're sitting on comfortable?
unvote. Vote: joboman

I know, Confirm vote.
It was the random phase, what else am I supposed to do but take one of a few posts and vote for reactions? I got one too.

I find Bol and Gleng scum for the reasons stated compounded by the open defense of one for the other.

I will try and restrict my newb statements.
I don't like being told what I can and cannot do and I also felt it necessary to elaborate my reasoning since at least one person(guess who) didn't get it.
I also felt that since this is a Basic game it might be a good idea to explain to the new players why a quick lynch is a bad thing.
Yes, by all means keep FoSing me instead of committing to anything.

Which roles are common, which are unlikely and which are never used?

As far as I know, there is no fixed time limit. As long as we keep making progress, we could likely go a couple weeks before one is imposed, although the final decision is, obviously, Skander's.
I would just like to know if some roles are deemed "too complex" for basic games. For instance is this likely to be a 3 mafia, 1 doc, 1 cop, 7 vanilla townie deal? Or can there be a bit more to it. I am only asking this since this is my first mafia game on this forum.
Saying X Y is X is definitley a meme, but saying X Y is Z, is not.
I would vote for you if my vote was not already on gleng, which is a good vote. If I had two votes I would put one on each of you.
I could say that I caught Gleng in a "slip" by him acting scummy, so is you're attacking me mean that you are his scum-buddy?
If you're so sure I'm scum then it doesn't make any sense for you to go in depth when I make an accusation, because after all, you think i'm scum and so my opinion doesn't matter.
In the games i've seen, random voting is basically random until somebody makes a slip, not fishing for reactions. the "gone fishing" response is scummy.
Wouldn't you have to attack bol in the first place for this to happen?
Ha ha ha ha ha ha. I'm scared.
If you feel rebellious then you're response should rebel, not comply with a clear explanation.

Why not? I am just curious and would like to be more informed. I am not asking for detailed information here, just general information that would be easily available if I were to take the time and read some of the other games.
Fair enough, I thought it was an amusing variation at the time.
This still doesn't explain why you lied about voting on me in order to further an OMGUS argument.
I'm not attacking you for attacking gleng, I'm attacking you for deflecting when I attacked Bol.
I personally think gleng is newb town so the fact that you are trying so hard to attack him makes me all the more sure you're scum.
I would call a vote an attack even in the random phase.
Sarcasm, tool of the scum.
Ok, seriously, stop telling me how I should act. I will do what I please and how I please.

So many scummy behaviors, as soon as Day 1!
The case of Joboman.
It was obviously a random : There was no reason. Why a random vote would always be a joke? You're searching for the first plea which will lead to the lynch of a town?
So you're saying (In an implied form) that Bolm and you are playing together? Well, two scums for the price of one.
Told by the one who blame Exsam about a vote not justified enough, it's quite funny.

I think the same about bolmedias, so if you are attacking him should I be sure you're scum? bad argument.
Okay, I see what you mean here.
I'm not that bad. I saw a baseless attack early in the random phase that didn't look random, and after I ask you about it you attack me for scumbuddying?

Yeah well thats bull☺☺☺☺.
now THIS is a bad attack. You can't take one attribute and attribute it to all scum. Some people's playstyle is just sarcastic.
No. You're behavior doesn't make any sense. If you acted like this before instead of making an in-depth explanation I would be annoyed, but not suprised.
Bad attack is bad. How was I supposed to know it was random? You're also taking what you think I'm doing really far to say that I want to lead the lynch of the town? and on just one bad post? No.
So you're saying (in an implied form) that you're taking what i'm saying, and twisting it? Well, one scum for half price.
