Hi EDHers. The other day I was inspired by the extended "teachings" decks to build another EDH: Dralnu, Lich Lord. I love playing control, and I love U/B so I thought I'd give it a shot and see how it worked out.
However, there's one catch - this is my sixth EDH, and since most of my other EDH's are more on the "competetive" side of the spectrum, I wanted to build this one to be a little more casual and interesting. I decided the best way to do this was to impose the following rule on myself: other than the general, the whole deck must be instants, sorceries, or lands. Obviously this restriction has the advantage of being very on-theme for Dralnu and his colors..
I built the deck earlier today, and I've played a couple of games with it. It's performed quite well, and it's been a blast to play:
I play mostly 1v1 and 3-way, but I imagine that this deck would perform fairly well in larger multiplayer if I changed a few cards (add Blatant Theivery and Siphon Mind, etc.) because it's so utterly non-threatening. Zero board presence and tons of answers makes this a really cool deck to pilot. Also, I'd love to see someone's face after they cast Bribery or Acquire on me.
The beauty of this deck is the multitude of cantrips that provide amazing card advantage when used in concert with Dralnu. Once your hand is so stacked that you can counter whatever they do, just beat with Dralnu for the win, or Bribery and go to town.
Other than that, I'd love suggestions from the fray because I'm sure I've missed some gems. I'm not really on a super-tight budget, but I'm not shelling out for FoW, Mana Drain, etc. If it's a really obvious inclusion and also expensive, you can probably guess why I'm not running it. Also, though I may eventually cave and add a few cards like lightning greaves, please keep suggestions to instants, sorceries, and lands for now.
While I don't have any suggestions.
I just wanted to say the idea for this deck is hands down one of the coolest and most interesting things I've seen in awhile. Good luck with the deck!
Today I've been thinking about all the tutoring and brainstorm effects I have and wondering if there are any all-land/instant/sorcery combos in these colors. Any ideas?
time stop is possibly the best counterspell you can have, and it gets especially nasty if you can do it twice in a row. The way I see it, it counters EVERYTHING, and as an added bonus it ends the turn.
Another card that can be frustratingly difficult to play around twice is commandeer. Especially considering you can alt-cast it, followed by a flashback cast, all in one turn with only seven mana.

On the flip side, I think you should have Phage the Untouchable as your only creature, to really discourage someone using Telemin Performance on you lol.
The Phage idea is really clever. Telemin isn't really played much in my area, but I would just laugh my ass off if that ever happened.
Otherwise, you'll cry when hit by them.
Though I'd put High Market in additionally
