Heyo. Per request via PM, this is my Soulshift deck. Budget friendly! Goals are first, then the list, then possible evolution of the deck, then lastly, Tips and Tricks below.
Goals:
- Soulshift is kinda lame, I'll admit, and very overcosted. For some reason, I have a lot of soulshift critters and was always looking for something fun to do with them. Took a few expansions, but Tribal spells come to the rescue.
- Abuse soulshift to recur Nameless Inversion and Crib Swap - they are spirits!
- Iname, Death Aspect suggested a backup win condition - Haunting Misery. Iname dumps most of deck into your grave, then HM does a large pile of damage.
Evolution:
- Yes, I already know Haakon plus Nameless Inversion recurral is awesome. You don't need to suggest him. That's another deck really.
- Alright, at only 2x Iname and 2x HM, the combo will not come up very often. I'm thinking adding some tutors would be helpful!
- Lots of spirits at 2x. Not sure which ones to focus on yet.
- Bring Thief of Hope to a full set. He wrecks every time I play him.
- Feel free to adjust mana base to your budget level.
Tips and Tricks:
- Crib Swap and Nameless Inversion are your MVPs. You can use them defensively when attacking creatures come your way or offensively to kill stuff blocking your way.
- Try to hold out a soulshifter's death until a Tribal is in your grave to recur.
- A little splash of white is tricky. You almost always want to grab a plains when you get a land searcher.
That's about it. Room for improvement!
Comments / advice / decklists / hate mail welcome. Thanks in advance.
- I think I had 4x Reach at some point, but lowered my mana curve. Good suggestion, though, I love the Reach.
- Hana Kami! Nah, they only recur Arcanes. If they recurred Spirits, I'd be all over that. The lock is interesting, but I've already got a Spore Frog engine deck that's hated enough.
- Wear Away looks promising if I ran more Arcanes. Right now I only run two Reaches.
Ah, soulshift. It was the first deck i made, and it sucked. You have a pretty good list here; however, I find venerable kumo to suck. I'd replace it with forked-branch garami, because it has double soulshift.

This virtual world is begining to feel more and more like Tron, exept with less motorcycles and more card games
Don't Laugh... but what about some Shrines. Honden of Cleansing Fire, Honden of Life's Web, Honden of Night's Reach. I have a friend who plays a 5 color shrine deck that is actually quite formidable and tends to snowball uncontrollably, and the recent addition he made of x4 Exploding Borders... ouch. Seems to be more natural for this deck. Oyobi, Who Split the Heavens would be NASTY in this deck if you can get him out, and is very amicable to the splash W. Petalmane Baku could help with the mana production also. Unlike many, I enjoyed the Kamigawa block, though I am a strictly casual player. I still maintain a deck I call "Snakes... Why'd it have to be snakes..." lol and it is strong in content from the Kamigawa block, including all non-creature spells being Arcane and most of them Spliceable. Which also reminds me, Warden, love the name of your snake deck lmao classic. At any point during a match while playing with it, do you spontaneously shout, "I'm tired of these mutha****in' snakes on my mutha****in' Planeswalker!" Just curious.
