I am making a new thread because I plan on taking this deck to a small tournament.
Food Chain Elf Deck Primer:
FCE is a deck meant to bring out as many creatures as possible into play and hurt your opponent by any means necessary. Whether it be by creatures attacking, or by an ability.
I stumbled upon FCE when I was looking for a way to make a Squirrel Deck quicker and I figured that I would use Elves to mana accelerate into bigger stuff and bigger combos. One of my friends mentioned a card called Food Chain At first I was a little skeptical but now I fully believe in this deck and I think that it is a very great deck and I believe that it might do well in certain tournaments. I am not taking credit for making Food Chain Elves, I will only give out credit where it’s due.
All the decks but the basic are in Spoiler Tags Due to a lot of info about the decks makes this a very long post so I've decided to do that mostly for being visually appealing!
Here is your basic list that you can upgrade from:
With the above deck you can either bring out a lot of creatures and attack or try to get your Trisk in play with the Magistrate and Kiki-Jiki Out. Use Kiki’s Ability to make a copy of Immaculate Magistrate, add counters onto Triskellion with the two IM’s in play, and then use Triskellion’s ability to do damage to creatures(s) or player(s).
I was happy running this deck but I wanted something quicker so I decided to look into drawing cards like with Harmonize. I thought I found the perfect card with Collective Unconscious I thought that it was the greatest thing ever because I could draw through my whole deck. But about a week after I was using one (And I so mean one, I couldn’t get find any more) I stumbled upon Seanarooni’s Food Chain Elf Build that runs Regal Force. It does the same thing as the other cards but we get one more advantage, we can use Fierce Empath to Search for RF while not with the other card.
What you do is bring out as many creatures as possible tap three elves for heritage druid’s ability to add 3 mana to your mana pool, and play other mana sources like lands and Priest of Titania. Then it’s time to use Food Chain to make add 6 W mana to your mana pool as well, so you can play Myojin of Cleansing Fire and remove the counter from it to destroy each other creature. Then you play Twlight Shepherd which when it comes into play: Return to your hand all cards in your Graveyard put there from play this turn, then you play Caller of the Claw which states: You may play CotC any time you could play an instant. When CotC comes into play, put a 2/2 Green Bear Creature Token into play for each non-token creature put into your Graveyard from play this turn. So if you had 13 creatures out when you played Cleansing fire you put in 12 2/2 Green Bear Creature Tokens into play. And since you already tapped your creatures for mana you can re-play a lot of them again so you get more creatures. Then you can re-tap the three more elves for GGGand then remove all your creatures to play a Maga, Traitor to Mortals.
The following deck is the one that Eseph runs:
Quoted from Eseph
"Here's the list I've been running for the past couple years, it's in need of updating, but it's worked reasonably well for me in the past."
"All credit for this deck is due to The Infamous Bear Assassin, over on the Source. And the deck suffers from acute loses-to-combo-and-counterspells-itus, though Leyline of Lifeforce from the board help level that out some.
That said it regularly resolves beef on turn 3, and just runs the show from there."
Basically what his version does is lets you accelerate into mana and get your Regal Force out to draw your deck, hopefully in that draw you will get another RF or a Fierce Empath to search for him and draw through your deck again. Once you have Maga in your hand you then use Food Chain and add mana to your mana pool and play Maga. When it comes into play it gets +X/+X counters on it where X is the amount of mana you pay minus the 3 black needed. It has a secondary ability which states that target player loses X life for each counter on Maga.
It’s very quick, both him and I have achieved a Turn 3 kill with it, but from my testing it’s mostly turn 4-5.
*******Matchup Results*******
I haven’t tried it against any top tier legacy decks other than against my friends nice goblin deck:
Vs. Legacy Mill (Gaea's Blessing) - 50-50, Even though I have a GB in my deck, the constant milling with mesmeric orb and counterspells a plenty made quick work of my deck for 2 games. The other 2 games the milling wasn't enough and I rolled through a turn 3 and turn 4 win respectively. Results 2-2
Vs. Goblin Legacy - %60 in our favor, I went 3-1. Lackey being dropped down early plus us really not wanting to use our creatures as blockers = very quick.
Against my Pox deck -%60 In our favor, I went 3-1 as well but I almost lost my second game due to being so badly starved for cards needed.
Vs. Draw/Discard Vintage Deck - %60 In our favor, someone was using a draw/discard deck with underworld dreams, mox's, black lotus (All printed Proxy cards) Out of 3 games I won 2 and made us tie, the underworld dreams took me down to 0, thank god for maga. Result = 2-1-1
Vs. Burn - %60 In our Favor, once Food Chain hits it's almost at the end of the line, before you ask this was a regular run of the mill burn (Not legacy, please look below!) In 4 games I went 3-1
Vs. Elemental/Goblin Deck - %80 in our favor, out of 4 games I went 3-1, it's a quick deck capable of turn 3-4 kill, they got ball lightning's and other cards of the same ilk like 7/1 trample & haste.
Vs. Legacy Burn - %80 In their favor, Way too quick with the burn spells, nothing stayed out long enough to do any damage. In 4 games I went 1-3 The only win came from opponent being mana starved in the third game and my deck actually getting off on I believe it was the third turn, a very rare occurrence
Vs. Painter's Servant/Grindstone Deck - %90 In their favor, Force of Will and Hydroblast got me badly in 4 games I went 1-3. I only won because they only had one counterspell in their hand and I had 2 Food Chains.
Also if you play Food Chain Elves and have played against other decks please post in this thread or send me a pm so I can add the results into here, thanks!
Hopefully when I go back to the "Watering Hole" I will be able to play a wider variety of decks and get more stats.
Ao any new combos that might work it's way into this deck?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks to:
Seanarooni for letting me use his deck list in the Food Chain Elf Primer.
Eseph for letting me use his deck list in the Food Chain Elf Primer.
Bear Assassin for making Food Chain Decks.
I have just finished an extensive overhaul of the Primer, which includes removing the combo idea from it since it belongs in the replies and not the primer.
If you or anyone you know use FCE and don't mind having your deck submitted here (WITH CREDIT) then please feel free to shoot me a PM or make a reply.
Also let me know of any matchups, so that I can update that section as well.
Here's a nice combo I found that might work in some builds of FCE.
As an additional cost to cast Momentous Fall, sacrifice a creature.
You draw cards equal to the sacrificed creature's power, then you gain life equal to its toughness.
Along with either of our creatures in the deck, or with:
Wirewood Herald 1G
Creature - Elf 1/1
When Wirewood Herald is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, you may search your library for an Elf card, reveal that card, put it into your hand, then shuffle your library.
You would obviously want to pump him up, but even if you didn't, you will draw 1 card from your deck, gain 1 life, and search your deck for an elf card, like the hermit, etc.
Now with just about any elf deck that you have tons of mana at your disposal (I.e. Priest, Elvish Guidance, etc.) it is still a gamble.
your matchups seem flawed from what i can read, your deck lacks consistent draw and is playing food chain when you could just play more elves and have a more consistant build.
you should def run regal force in your build and you might want to invest in summoners pact's since all your dudes are green. drop the triskelon because your deck cannot make the most of him adn try running primordial sage in his palce, atleast he draws cards. the only cards in your "other creatures" list that have any merit are kiki and sundering titan. id play other powerful draw creatures like 4 regal force and 4 primordial sage and sine you have lots of mana dudes you might want to invest in concordant crossroads so they haste and tap for mana before you eat them for mana and more spells
