(On a somewhat related note I live in an apartment with very thin walls and the internet meme "Surprise buttsecks!!" isn't just on the internet anymore. Man that girl sounded pissed off.)

It was common in 8th and 9th, dont remember if it was in 10th. I feel weird bout this, cuz im playing U/B milling, so its a nice counter, in the other hand... W/U will have another counter *sighs*
Seriously ?...mana leak is almost a counterspell in the first turns, and i thougt R&D hated cheap counters.
But if it's true, i'm very happy, welcome back my old friend. *wipes tear*

Yawgmoth, the ruler of Phyrexia, Lord of the Wastes, Father of Machines, is DEAD. He's passed on. He is no more! He has ceased to be! He is expired and gone to meet his maker! He is a stiff! Bereft of life, he rests in peace! He kicked the bucket, He has shuffled off his (apparently)mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisibile!

Mana leak huh? Well people have been wanting a 2CMC counter and if I remember correctly people were upset that it was not in X or m10. It is no Counterspell or Remand, but it still does the job nicely.
Considering the ridiculous amount of speculation as soon as cards get spoiled, just watch as people panic and buy out Jaces before they break triple digits, and then that happens anyway. :/
But ty though!!! this just means R/g will be getting some amazing cards... The return of Vexing Shusher n Co.?
did this just bring merfolk into the game? no more t3 Doj's? =o

Skill is an ability that relates more so to the type of deck that's built and how said player pilots it. It also relates to the ability to assess the board and use the cards available to you in the most optimal way relative to each situation.
When a deck is filled with above par cards and every play is solid, there comes a diminishing need to "think" for the lack of wanting to use a better word.
sounds good to me. they've now done a several-years long experiment with Negate and Essence Scatter as the two mana counters and have seen that its not entirely succesful.
Mana Leak is a good choice. Its a fair card. Its strong, but it was never too strong. And we've obviously seen that Standard is just fine even with extremely strong cheap spells available in other colors (Path to Exile, Lightning Bolt, for example).
It will make the game more interesting. playing around early game counters has always been an important part of the game. Now blue mages will have to think about whether they want to play out Wall of Omens or Spreading Seas or save for the counter. Now players fighting blue mages will have to think about how to sneak threats through.
and its splashable, so it will let other colors play some counter defense of their own. Negate was always almost good enough for this but there were always too many creature-based problems to make it good enough to rely on Negate to save your butt.
and finally, it makes cards like Great Sable Stag and Terra Stomper actually relevant again. It was always such a shame that creatures that were so strong were just not playable because countermagic got nerfed so hard.
Counterpells are going to be something people play in magic again? I won't be able to spend my games going "ha counterspells are dead I can play any spell I want willy nilly".
Though I do believe they should ban jace. I'd like to play blue in standard without that piece of cardboard gold, and its only going to increase to platinum.

Hahaha! That was my first thought too. Probably not going to happen, but Mana Leak is so good!

In any case, I welcome Mana Leak back into T2!
But, Blue mages will finally stop crying.

There always needs to be a 2-mana leak variant in Standard.

Very sad about this.
What kind of environment is FFL projecting that they think this serves which of their objectives? I don't know which of those questions to ask.
