Blah blah blah, a lot of positive feedback on the discussion, blah blah blah, a lot of work, but worth it, blah blah blah, improve myself in drafting by doing this...
Now that that stuff is over with, LET'S DO THIS!
You all should know the basic gist of the Group Draft: anyone can join at any time and give their vote, majority wins, please bold your posts or ambiguity may arise, etc, etc.
Longbow for me too. It's a tough call because both Rancor & Sprout Swarm are excellent in this format but you can't pass repeatable removal available to any colour in pauper.
Yes, and removal is extremely prevelant, but the presence of so many green cards stears me away from the color. Longbow is not only the best card but allows us to stay open for other colors. I would be happy with either, but I would also mention not commiting to green here can be a HUGE advantage since there are at least 2 good green cards.
I'm not a big fan of the Gotcha cards, they are usually too insane. But I can definitely consider taking it.
I really, really want to take the Rancor, but the amount of green in this pack will surely put others down the line into green, so I go with the Longbow.

it would have been ok if the other green cards were mediocre, but in this pack we have 2 first picks. In the same category Longbow is also a first pick but doesn't commit us to a competitive color.
I'm sorry, but the argument that we're passing a lot of green is actually just terrible.
If you opened Armageddon, Balance and Land Tax in a powered cube with nothing else that really jumps out at you, you aren't going to pass them because "someone to our left will go in white"

Sure, but a more valid comparison would be Land Tax and Sensei's Divining Top - one is color dependent, and the other is a repeating source of quality/advantage in colorless. I'd go with Land Tax anyway, since it's very splashable and works well at any point in the game as a source of draw-three, but Rancor works differently from the cards we're talking about here, since it requires creatures and some semblance of non-suicidal attacking to be especially useful.
No, i understand why people are picking the Longbow, I'm just outlining that the justification of "not wanting to fight over green cards" is pretty terrible, especially considering we're at the top of the stream, so we would always have access to the best ones first. Drafting green here is pretty awesome because it'll make the people to our left have weaker picks for the rest of pack one.
(Hope its fine to jump in and participate). I vote for Rancor. Nuts card is nuts. Green is obviously the color to be in, and if we take the lions share of the color's power, we'll be pretty safe further down the road in getting passed green. Worst case scenario, we remove an insane card from green's deck rather than pick up an okay colorless card. Also, like mentioned earlier this is easily splashed.

Yeah I kinda figured that's what drafting is about. If we all just took what was left over and never fought over colors, we'd end up with the worse deck.
I never worry about sending signals in my first pick. It doesn't matter if the player on my left dives into my color on pick 2. I can cut him off or we both could get cut off, or any of a number of other scenarios. I go for picking the the most powerful card pick 1 regardless of what cards I'm shipping. It's far more important to read signals than to send them.
In this pack, the three most powerful cards (IMO) are Rancor, Longbow, and Sprout Swarm. I'm happy taking the Rancor and shipping the other two. My opponent is welcome to try to go into green. I will either be sucking it all up or be content to splash for Rancor because it makes every creature I play better.

I can't tell if you're being a condescending ass or if you're actually agreeing with me...
After lurking for most of these group drafts I figure I might as well participate in one.
For me it's between number crunch or one of the green cards. Viridian longbow seems good too, but if I'm going to be pantsing up a dude rancor seems like by far the stronger choice, even if longbow does keep your options open. I go with rancor because I haven't played with the blue card before and can't decide if it's awesome or terrible.
*quick aside*
My first thought looking at this pack was "isn't number crunch totally insane?" I've never seen the card before, but it makes me consider breaking the no un-card rule in my own cube (plus then I could justify putting rare-be-gone back in, but that's beside the point). What are people's opinions of that card in general?

I'm going to pick the Longbow, since I imagine pinging removal will be pretty awesome with tons of small creatures running around in this format.
Really don't like shipping Rancor though. OK, time to look for disenchant effects!

I think the Longbow is the right choice here.

lol I'm agreeing with you.
This is the most significant pick of your draft, and it's 8-7 in favour of Longbow currently. We can go longer than 24 hours for a close pick.
Let the debate rage.
