As a primer, I just really love decks based on lands. I don't know what it is, but it's a blast. Even in Standard I play a Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle deck. I just really like lands, and I feel like this is a must have for a land-fan such as myself.
This deck has been around for a while, thrown around with a couple of good ideas, but I wanted to see if there were any good suggestions. What have you all found is the most effective way to play it/ most fun way to play it/ etc.
There are a couple of ways I know are around:
Treasure Hunt: Plays very few non-land cards and just picks up you deck and toss. This seems like it would have more muligans than usual.
Man-land: Played with Seismic as a back up strategy, using several good man-lands (treetop village, raging ravine, etc.) as the main attacking win conditions.
Other: I am sure there are others out there. Let me know ways you have played it, what you have found works, what you found doesn't work.
I've got a deck based on throwing a deck full of lands via Treasure Hunt. Its kinda' fun, but awfully one dimensional, and can get a little boring. And Very handily wins on T4 or 5, so its definitely powerful enough. Here's a link (I should stick it in my sig)...
Key plays here (the deck basically plays itself)
[INDENT]Mulli until you have A) a Treasure Hunt (preferably) or B) Seismic Assault with at least two red mana sources and a search/cycler or 3 red mana sources.
If you can afford to (and you likely can), wait until turn 3 to Treasure Hunt, so that when you pull a Reliquary Tower in your mass-dig, you can play it that turn and hang onto your little stack of cards...hopefully stumbling across Seismic Assault....if not, rinse/repeat the following turn. T4 or T5 Seismic should be guaranteed at that rate, and the win if it resolves.
Ah, Reliquary Tower, is a must have that I had forgotten about.
As for the deck, you only play 8 Spells? That seems harsh, Only like 13% non-lands, but if it works that is awesome. I though about putting in something else like Ardent Plea Which is technically a force into a Treasure Hunt, but then you have to get out another color.
So 8 spells, really doable?
Also, Cycle lands? Seems moot to pay to drop a land... to draw a land... Works much?

So 8 spells, really doable? I see what you're saying, but it really fuels the Treasure Hunt, probably the best drawing ever like this ;). I'm ALWAYS drawing at least 8 cards for 2, usually more than 10. It seems fairly fragile, and it is, I guess, but its got like a 75% win rate, when they don't see it coming.
Also, Cycle lands? Seems moot to pay to drop a land... to draw a land... Works much? Not as well as I would have hoped when I put the deck together, but a couple times, it's saved my brass...if I am without option and need to dig a few, they did that. But it hasn't been as helpful as I'd hoped, but still usable :).
I have a deck like this, and it uses 50 lands although I have only one Seismic Assault. I use Land's Edge as an alternative. Sure, the opponent gets a shot to do damage, but it's easier to cast and you should have way more lands, anyway.
Spells:
4 x Treasure Hunt
2 x R/G 3Mana cascade spell (Can't think of the name, for the life of me)
4 x kill spells (Land's Edge or Seismic Assault of Lightning Storm)
50 lands, yes 50
4 Halimar Depths
4 Reliquary Towers (so I can have a hand of 20+ lands)
I like to use the old Masques lands that allow you to tap for 2 mana, plus sac lands that give 2 different colours. Basically, I intend to use lands only once or twice and want to be able to combo out quickly.
This deck does require mulliganing aggressively, but it's got an impressive record. Just my bragging/2 cents.

By the way, I only have to mulli once or maybe twice.
I did get a little flack from one guy, who thought it was cheap to have to mulli so hard just to get the one card you need...and I guess I can see that
I am probably just worrying about the ratios because I haven't gotten to sit down and play it yet... I'll see what it is like, and I'll probably love it.
Cycle lands: I will just have to see when it comes down to cuts, and if I have other lands that NEED to be in those spots. Right now just about the only definite spots for me are 4 Reliquary Tower, and 4 Shivian Reef.

Yeah, I like Land's Edge too, but I don't have any, and don't like it enough to go out of the way to get it when I have my set of Seismic Assaults.
I think you are thinking of the cascade card, Violent Outburst. And has that worked well for you? I was thinking of doing the same with Ardent Plea, but it poses some problems either way...
Violent Outburst:
Pros: It is red which is the color you want to be in for the most part.
Cons: Must splash green, and only gives a man-land, IF ACTIVE BEFORE, +1/+0 for a turn.
Ardent Plea:
Pros: The Buff of +1/+1 is for every turn
Cons: In blue as compared to more coveted red, and must splash White
The two balance out well, and if I play either I think it will come down to which color, white or green, I want to splash for.
By the way, I only have to mulli once or maybe twice.

Once again... I am just freaking out because I haven't played it yet, so I don't know what my hands are going to look like, on average.
I kind of get it... Tell me if this is about right?
You use Glacial Chasm as a Fogish effect, don't pay the cumulative, get it and 2 other lands back with Life from the Loam, and chuck the other two at the opponent? Exploration if you want to play more than just the Chasm every turn? All this while needing to already have an assault out, or skip a LftLoam Dredge?
Sound good... but complicated. Where is the draw? Treasure hunt seems like it would have too much stuff to pick up along the way.
Even if the author is silenced, the performance is stopped, the story will not end.
Whether it's a comedy or a tragedy, if there is cheering, the story will continue on.
Just like the many lives.
For the us who are still in it and still in the journey, send warm blessings.
- We will continue to walk down this path until eternity.

You can just skip the Glacial Chasm and just use land to take out creatures.
Cyclelands + Life from the Loam are good, and Treasure Hunt isn't bad either.
Yeah, that's the one It works great because it basically means that I have 6 Treasure Hunts in my deck. I find with 50 lands that having red, green, and blue isn't much of a problem... The deck took like 2 minutes to build and is worth about 2 bucks, as most. I just like to whip it out to surprise people

Yeah, I am beginning to think I need a 3 Mana Cascade in here, and the more I play ardent plea the more I would rather be playing Violent Outburst.
At the moment it looks like it is going to be eitherRUG (using Treasure Hunt and Outburst) or RWG (using Land Tax, and possibly Outburst).
QUESTION!: This is probably a yes, but I just need to ask.
If I begin the game with two (or more) Gemstone Caverns in my hand, can I exile two (... or more) cards to put them both into play.
This happened once in testing, and if it works I played a turn 1 assault and a turn two Treasure hunt into a winning draw. Just was fun thats all.
Well whoops. I thought about it and I am considering spending some good money on some good lands, and just forgeting all of this curve crap.
By good lands I mean City of Brass, Forbidden Orchard, etc. I guess unless I am playing against something really fast the 1 or 2 extra isn't going to hurt me from shivan reef, much less city of brass.
*Sigh* They gave us the Alara ally colored triple lands (EX: Savage lands), now we just need enemy colored one (SMILING HOPEFULLY!).
No that probably won't happen. It just seems like everything that I want to do recently, like this, is enemy colors.

Wow, I like that. If I owned any Land Tax they would be looking for a spot, I will have to see what I can do to get some.
Hell you could Almost go straight RW with that. Play plenty of sac lands like Dwarven Ruins, and get out a Seismic and a land tax...
