1. Have fun! Also, make sure that you respect the other players in the game.
2. The moderator (mod) for this game is Ace.
3. Please bold your votes/unvotes like this: Vote Ace and Unvote Ace. Only bolded votes (or votes otherwise distinguished from your normal text formatting, provided that the particular formatting of the vote remains constant) will be counted. Please unvote before revoting.
4. Lynches will be caused by majority votes. Once the last vote required to lynch a person is placed, that lynch is locked in, and no amount of unvoting will affect it. Players may continue to post at this stage, though (twilight), until the mod announces that night had begun.
5. Please do not edit or delete your posts. If a player is found to have edited or deleted one of their posts, that player will immediately lose the game and be replaced. On the same note, please do not use invisitext.
6. Please do not post during the night, or when you are dead. The one exception to this rule is the “bah” post, a single post with no game-related information in it which you may make immediately following your death. This is usually just the word “bah”.
7. Please do not talk about this game outside of this thread, unless your role allows you to (this applies also to talking about any other active games in this thread). If you role does allow this it, then please make sure that the mod receives a copy of any dialogue that occurs outside this thread (usually, this can be done by CCing PMs to me). In addition, if you have the ability to talk with other players outside this thread, please only do so at the times outlined in your PM.
8. Nights will usually have an action deadline of 48 hours (2 days), and the following day will begin immediately after that. Days will have deadlines set only at the mod’s discretion. If a day reaches a deadline, and a lynch has not occurred, then the day will end in No Lynch. If a night reaches a deadline, all players with possible actions that haven’t sent one will be counted as not taking an action.
9. Please post regularly. One post every 72 hours is the minimum, but I would prefer an average of around one post per 36 hours (1-2 days) from each of you. Any player who has failed to post in a 72 hour period will receive a prod (via PM). If a player prodded this way then fails to respond to the prod for a further 72 hours, they will lose the game and be replaced. Players may be exempt from the entirety of this rule for periods of time, providing that they have good reason to be, and that they notify the mod well before any period of time where they will be unable to post for any reason. Such players may wish to note that if an absence of more than 168 hours (7 days), you may be better off requesting replacement.
10. If a player has been replaced out for any reason, that player may not continue posting, even if the replacement player has not been found yet.
11. The mod reserves the right to modkill a player, if they believe modkill intervention to be the best course of action, or if they believe that a modkill would be wholly beneficial to the gamestate. Ideally, there will be no need for such intervention, which will only happen in extreme circumstances.
14. Please try to not quote your role PM, nor paraphrase too closely. If I believe that a player has done either of these in an attempt to gain an unfair advantage, they will be modkilled. If I believe that a player has done either of this with the intention of being modkilled, modkilling will likely be the least of the punishments.
15. Any player that is modkilled for any reason loses the game

Congratulations!
You've made the Softball State team. You're now playing for a variety of places in the big leagues (which pay a fair amount of money to rookies like you). The pressure was on to win the season, and "Ace's Aces", as you're affectionately known, were set to trample the competition.
Only, balls that should've been easy to catch started to be dropped. Swings missed by a mile - a mile that looked way too suss to be real. Tensions flared in the team. Games the Aces should have been winning by 10 or 20 runs were won by 2. Luckily, you scraped by in the finals game to make it to the big one - the Grand Final.
If you can all survive the game and kill the traitors, you'll make it to the big leagues, and make a career out of a sport you love. If not, you won't be breathing enough to care.

Shalako, two questions. 1) How many games of mafia have you played? 2) In what way do you think a soft claim would be useful in this game?
Others can answer as well if they like but i'm interested in what shalako has to say.
I have only one game under my belt, Basic #26 where i played with Arcadic and Khorney06. I am also, as of this post, not currently playing on any other games.

This is my like...4th game? Soft claim is useless as, I presume everyone got a position somewhere. How do we tell if the position is a scummy one or not and what's stopping the scum having a safe claim to prevent a mass claim win for town? It seems like a huge waste of time.

Well, in flavour games, sometimes the GM gives the scum a false claim that will appear town. This way, it's a lose lose situation for the town. I am against any type of mass claim, at least for now.

Sorry khorney but this seems incredibly suspicious, why are you working on the assumption that scum may have been provided false claims? specially since as you stated in this particular game flavor would in no way be a real way to determine or infer alignment?
I am willing to agree that a soft claim may be of no use given that it would not help determine or infer alignment, however we shouldn't discount it as a possibility, having said that it is way too early for claims of any sort.
@Diggy: Im not sure i understand your stance, you state that sometimes GM's may provide false claims in flavor games (you give Mushroom Kingdom 1 as an example) but since in this particular case flavor wouldn't really help its unlikely and therefore soft claiming is pointless. But how can you be sure its pointless since like you said the chances of scum being provided with false claims are almost null? yes it may perhaps not help infer alignment but we dont know that for sure, we dont know what positions where assigned, if any, and therefore cannot say, with any certainty, that a soft claim would be pointless. Seems like a WIFOM i know but its a valid question and one i would like considered.
For now im gonna FoS khorney and FomS Diggy.

Sep, the reason a soft claim is useless here is the flavor is too neutral to be able to infer anything, false claims or not. What does claiming Right Field or 1st Base tell you about alignment? There's no info there.
I of course cannot be sure but I believe it is pointless as what is considered scum in a softball game? A case could be made for any position to be scum or town. I suppose maybe later in the game if a pattern has emerged then position could be useful but at this point with no information we have to assume that any position could be scum/town and therefore a soft claim is useless to us. Its just something we do not need to be considering.
Understood and, at this point in time, I agreed.
I also did not say that the scum would not be provided with false claims here. I just said that it would matter more in flavour games. I'd even argue that they already have been provided with safe claims here as there is no flavour.
Apologies i did not mean to imply you said scum would not be provided with false claims, but rather that you thought the act unlikely given the neutral flavor of the game, even that i will admit was an assumption on my part and should not be considered as something you have said, so apologies.

unvote because were out of the random.
At this point in time such information does nothing, however we don't know for sure how it could impact the game later on, thats why i am saying that the notion/idea should not be discounted and should be perhaps reconsidered later on in the game.

Claiming roles.
[QUOTE=Shalako;/comments/10695534]Can we claim our position? or does that make us eligible for modkill? Soft claims are good right?
This was part of a series of questions about this game. Most of my posts so far have been questions. More info is good so I tend to ask a lot of questions.
I was asking if it was good to claim or not. I was asking if it was reason for modkill as it said not to quote your Role in the rules. I was also asking if it was possible claiming would serve a purpose It seems that it is a resounding no.

No problem, lurking is generally a scum tactic however some players may employ this while being town as well, that being said i check the thread whenever i see a reply, sometimes i leave the tab open while checking something else even though there's nothing i want to reply to, sometimes i leave it on the control panel so you may see me as online yet im not aware there are new posts until i go back to the tab and refresh the page.

I have been in 0 games before. I've been asking questions to make up for this. I didn't expect one of my questions to get such a large reaction.
As stated above I was asking if it was a good idea I did not mean we should at this time.
Any answers to my questions or opinions?
Well first of welcome to your first game, secondly did you check the flash tutorial in the first mafia game thread?
Now i dont want people shouting "Coaching! Scum! Vote!" because honestly now this is a basic we are supposed to help new players... claiming is a tool, just like PBPA's (Play By Post Analysis), and FOS/HOS/IGMEOY (Finger of Suspicion, Hand of Suspicion, I Got My Eye On You respectively), they serve to analyse statements, posting habits and slip ups people may make.
Claiming is a little dangerous though since it provides information to the whole group and as such can and will be used by the scum to twist things and deceive us, as such usually mass claims (either soft ones or more substantial ones like alignment or role) and personal claims are reserved for points when a player is put to L-2 (this means that player is two votes away from a lynch) or when the situation is deemed such that the sharing of knowledge is needed in order to flush out the scum (usually this is done once majority agreement is reached so don't feel you have to start or follow if anyone does/suggests it before that).
Modkilling, Usually modkilling happens when you fail to follow the rules, so familiarize yourself with them, so unless you break them you should be safe. Regarding the "quoting your own PM" what that means is that you should not literally copy/paste whats on your PM, you are allowed to Paraphrase.
Hope this helps answer your questions, also if you want to make sure you can always ask the Mod running the game (in this case Ace) through PM and he/she will give you a green/red light as appropriate.

What? I just said if it were to be obvious, the scum would have a false claim. I know nothing about this sport, but I realise it will be impossible to tell based on a soft claim (because there are not "evil" positions, or so I assume.
I of course cannot be sure but I believe it is pointless as what is considered scum in a softball game? A case could be made for any position to be scum or town. A link to the mafiascum wiki would have been more appropriate. This is massive coaching, you go into too much detail about claiming and its effects, and it seems like a preemptive move incase the mass soft claim goes ahead. Seems suspicious, but nothing enough for a FOS.

Unvote: clearing RVS
honestly first thing i say not to do is the first thing people do....
Look this is a basic, go back to 26 and see how Cantrip reacted when vezok went and called my disclosure of your Roleblock as stupid, it wasn't helpful (what vezok did) for me being the first time i played it felt insulting and elitist (now i know vezok is always like that but at the time i didnt and as a result it was what led to me being hesitant and not as active that day), i had already gone through MafiaWiki and new about disclosing and everything but knowing when to disclose due to experience is very different from just reading it from a wiki. Even though i new those things already i needed someone to take the time to explain it (look for example how blue, atlseal and even Cantrip acted they where actively helping me understand things something i needed) so I was trying to be helpful (pay it forward kinda deal), but no you have to see it as coaching... honestly it makes me want to :banghead:....
Shalako for any further questions im afraid i will have to refer you to Mafia Wiki as it seems me trying to be helpful is being deemed as Coaching (i would explain what this entails but doing so would apparently also be coaching... hopefully it, and its ramifications, are easy enough to understand)
Khorney i have to ask though, a "preemptive move incase the mass soft claim goes ahead" how exactly? and to what purpose? (cue in "OMG he is fishing! SCUM!" in 3...2...1...:banghead:)

For now im gonna FoS khorney and FomS Diggy.
unvote because were out of the random.
My wife was on MTV with this video.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUutIZg2EpU
Apologies i did not mean to imply you said scum would not be provided with false claims, but rather that you thought the act unlikely given the neutral flavor of the game, even that i will admit was an assumption on my part and should not be considered as something you have said, so apologies.
At this point in time such information does nothing, however we don't know for sure how it could impact the game later on, thats why i am saying that the notion/idea should not be discounted and should be perhaps reconsidered later on in the game.
I was refering to this not being the first move out of the random stage.
It's not the most solid evidence I know. I wasn't basing my votes on solid evidence at this time. I guess I need kidding tags.
My f.o.s.

This just about sums it up. At least we have some reason here.
A link to the mafiascum wiki would have been more appropriate. This is massive coaching, you go into too much detail about claiming and its effects, and it seems like a preemptive move incase the mass soft claim goes ahead. Seems suspicious, but nothing enough for a FOS.
