Vartica is a sister set to Muraganda: The Lost World. Between Muraganda and Vartica, all five colors are balanced in number, but green, black, white, and blue are unbalanced in those individual sets. Muraganda and Vartica are inverse of each other in terms of flavor, mechanics, mechanical feel, and color balance. Unlike Lorwyn-Shadowmoor, the two sets and settings are simultaneous and set in the same world, but they are two hemispheres of the plane and are opposite.
Muraganda is intended to be very simple, and Vartica is meant to be rather complicated. The mechanics and cards in this set are meant to be on the complex end of the spectrum, but without being confusing (bad design).
Muraganda and Vartica are both inverse 235-card large sets. The third set of the block will be a small set bringing the two together and expanding on their mechanics.
Vartica is designed as part of the MGD block, which is being designed primarily to be used for Standard constructed alongside another custom block and a custom core set. MGD block is being designed secondarily for draft and sealed play. Block constructed, and constructed alongside real Wizards sets, are not goals.
Flavor of Vartica
(See the Muraganda thread for more information) Vartica is the glacier-capped northern hemisphere of the plane of Muraganda. The Vartic storm occurred generations ago (caused by the events of Time Spiral) and an ice age has set on since. The glaciers are slowly extending southward and covering Muraganda, but the climate of the plane's equator is currently slowing its spread.

Ni-Izzet : Niv Mizzet, planeswalker, has colonized Vartica with his U/r mage-scientists, the new Izzet (Ni-Izzet). They are experimenting with Cryolite, which has powerful magical properties and only forms in the conditions of Vartica. They are also using the barren nature of Vartica to test powerful and dangerous spell crafting.

Also I need some Blue and White cards if you have any ideas. White needs more Frozen/Freeze cards and more simple cards. Blue needs more instant and sorcery spells and also needs more simple cards.
Muraganda is intended to be very simple, and Vartica is meant to be rather complicated. The mechanics and cards in this set are meant to be on the complex end of the spectrum, but without being confusing (bad design).
Muraganda and Vartica are both inverse 235-card large sets. The third set of the block will be a small set bringing the two together and expanding on their mechanics.
Vartica is designed as part of the MGD block, which is being designed primarily to be used for Standard constructed alongside another custom block and a custom core set. MGD block is being designed secondarily for draft and sealed play. Block constructed, and constructed alongside real Wizards sets, are not goals.
