Default January Artwork Contest - Submission Thread

Well it is a new year and a new month and with it comes a new artwork contest! Last month we had some great pieces based on the work of custom cards with Bad Luck and El Garbo once more squaring off for the win. But this month we are going back to a more customary format, re-doing old art. But this time we have a little twist. Instead of being given an artwork description you will instead be given simply an old card and will go. Also instead of a creature we will be doing an abstract idea. So, are you ready to know what it is?

Stasis!

Yes the much hated combo-piece. Not that I want you to base your art off of the old one, because I do not, but here is the orginial:

Good luck and happy new year!

Added the new Monthly Art Contest Banner. -Topher

Good times. From the starcitygames.com worst art thread:

And if you really wanted to stretch, you could say the little dunce cap dude is running out of space for his blue paint, which would represent you running out of blue mana because you just had to ruin the game for everybody else, didn't you?!

The relevance of the little blindfolded dog person is up for debate, but I think the little red circle thing is supposed to hide the fact that it is so obviously flipping you off. You know, because you suck. For playing Stasis."

Somebody from Starcity, that's over here, should sig that, just so the SCG Invasion of Other websites can commence.

Bad Luck gets props for actually quoteing that.

As for the card:
Yeah... Oh boy... This should be a good month. Best of luck everyone.

Sellian, you've linked your art from your Gmail account, so we can't see it.

Try attaching it to your post instead.

Hrm... I really like this month's contest.

Would anyone care if this Mod decided to enter?

I see no reason why you should not be allowed to. Unless anyone has any objections, go ahead.

No objections here.

Sellian, would it be possible for you to get a bigger scan of that? I'd like to have it at least 630 by 460 pixels, so it'll fit in the card frame.

Huh... I like this contest. Maybe I'll enter.

No objections, by the way.

If there's no rule about it, no problem. And if there is... well, you know what they say about rules: "***** Rules."

I don't see why mods shouldn't be able to join in contests.

No objection.

Here we go. I really enjoyed this month, there was plenty of room for interpretation.

I opted to go for a bit of a mixture between the old school 'abstract' stasis and the more familiar idea of something being in a state of stasis being basicaly immobilized.

There's an obvious homage to the original Fay Jones original (which, unlike many, I really like)... except in this case, the little painting dude has become a wizard, using his magical paintbrush to send a threatening sea serpent into a blissful state of stasis.
