Default [GP] Martyred Rusalka, Thunderheads, Repeal (update post 48)

Some cards just in from a source of RAV info about four months ago!

Martyred Rusalka -
Creature - Spirit (U)
, Sacrifice a creature: Target creature can't attack this turn.
1/1

I was kinda hoping for something a little cooler like 3 damage to target attacking creature, or something. This card begs the question "why not just chump block instead?" I guess it's a way to turn a 1/1 token into something that can "chump block" a 5/5 flying trampler... but still - yuck.

Thunderheads -
Instant (U)
Replicate
Put a 3/3 blue Weird creature token with defender and flying into play. Remove it from the game at end of turn.
Illus. Hideaki Takamura

Uhhhh... pass.

Repeal -
Instant (C)
Return target nonland permanent with converted mana cost X to its owner's hand.
Draw a card.
Illus. Dan Scott

EDIT: Cost changed from to (typo). This makes it much, much more playable IMO.

I like the cantrippingness! Might be kind of expensive, though. Then again, it kills a token creature for only two mana, and you draw a card. I guess it's a useful common anyway. Bounce is a staple and this is an interesting spin.

Oh, and there's a goblin that you can pump mana into to double his power. So if you activate him three times, you multiply his power by EIGHT.

I may be able to get some scans of these in a few days.

Sweet stuff... kind of. I cant see this getting played besides casually, but decent enough. Repeal seems like a card that WotC just put in as a poorly planned bounce. Like you said, it's alright for tokens, but it is nowhere near echoing truth. Thunderheads is okay as a last defence, hopefully it can get some haste and lose defender, then it can become a finisher.. who am I kidding? It's bad. As for the rusalka... dissapointing!!! at least this fills a bit more spoiler space.

Disapointing though Thunderheads can kill a Solifuge which is ok. (Drift is still better IMO) .

Thanks R_E i think the white Rusalka is bad but turning a 1/1 token to make a flying creature not attack is ok
And i like the Repeal if someone is using the green leyline in a MBA deck it can be usefull and you get to draw a card or if they use enduring ideal and off color cards

Thunderheads: Are you sure there should be an s on the end of it? I mean it would make work if it made 2 tokens. But It only makes one token.

But these cards are cool anyway. I'm sure the first one is like that for a reason.

About the Weirds:
Weirds are Izzet creations of taking 2 enemy elements like Ice and Lighting and mixing them together.

That was a little piece of info I just found out in my new Inquest Magazine, I wasn't sure If we knew about it already.

I guess at the worst, in limited, Thunderheads is a slightly more expensive Last Gasp...

I'm not seeing the usefulness of this at all... but my guess is that a Holy Day effect was playtested and deemed too powerful, considering all of the W/G token-generation (which would also explain the lack of quality in the green one).

Why did they have to waste replicate on this? WHY?

I can't see this ever being played. Maybe in limited, but rarely.

Did it have to be "nonland"? I guess the cantripping is good, but this will probably be relegated to the sideboard (if it gets played at all) because of its ineffectiveness against control.

*crosses fingers*

Please don't be prohibitively expensive... please don't be prohibitively expensive... please don't be prohibitively expensive...

EDIT: But, as always, thank you for the cards R_E, this is why I refresh mtgsalvation at least every fifteen minutes.

I think these are most 'bleh' batch yet.

-sigh-

Well, I guess there is some pretty sweet stuff in the set already, its just that its so discouraging to see bad/nothing special cards AFTER the amazing and interesting ones.

I don't understand why they made the thunderheads so bad . . .
I guess it could go with dracoplasm or something dumb like that.
*hopes for good cards with guild mechanics*

Thing about the rusalka is, you can use your tapped 1/1 token to block a 5/5 trampling flyer or whatever. It's just all about the versatility.

jeez, slightly misread what you said there Relf, but I maintain the importance of "tapped"

I think Repeal is the worst of the bunch. It's too damn expensive. All the tokens are 1/1s these days, (we have Dogged Hunter already) and who wants to pay 5 to bounce a 3cc creature that they can play next turn?

The Rulsaka is okay. Not exciting, not horrible.

The junk uncommon is easily fixable, yet they still made it junk. Replace defender. Remove RFGing. Something. Anything!

Tidal Wave returns in a flying, but smaller form.

I don't like the bounce. Wizard is still weakening blue and it makes me sad.

Not to mention that izzet loves to experiment and make crazy new inventions, most of them coming out a little strange.

A very nice observation. I think tidal is still better though. Blue has enough flying, but not enough fat!!!
