Heyo. Per request, this is my "Headgear" deck, aka artifact based draw engine deck. Budget friendly (excepting 2 cards as you will see).
Normally I would list my deck creation goals, however, this is a rather weird deck. It evolved initially as a simple excuse to try RWB and pack it with all kinds of fun removal. Then it started using these draw artifacts, then... BAM! All 2 CMC critters! Since you end up drawing tons of cards, you want things that are cheap. Draw a lot, dump a lot, swarm!
So, no goal statements, but here is the list, then possible evolution of the deck, then lastly, Tips and Tricks below.
Evolution:
- Even more Vials if you have them.
- You are in the removal colors. If you have better removal, use it! Path to Exile, Swords to Plowshares, Vindicate, etc. if you have the budget are obvious. Journey to Nowhere is possibly a better Lingering Death.
- My critters seem inconsistent with 2xs but they do the similar things. However, going to 4x could be nicer.
- Gorilla Shaman (isn't a 2CMC critter, but that's fine) is a possible alternative to the artifact killing critter.
Tips 'n Tricks:
- The core goal of the deck is to stick an artifact piece down and start drawing lots of cards. That, coupled with cheap critters (most double as removal) and cheap removal, fuels this card draw engine.
- Vials are obviously the best card here, but not budget by any means. Not critical though. If you do have them, all your critters cost 2 so stick the Vial at 2 and let 'er ride.
- All the artifacts work together so pile them out. Draw several cards and try to dump them out. You typically want to empty out your hand to enable Mindstorm Crown or the G'Rats.
- You don't need a lot of lands in play since your stuff is cheap (plus Vial plays a critter for free). Dump extra lands to Skullmead Cauldron, Flame Jab, Lightning Axe, etc.
- Judge has a scry option to dig to your artifact pieces or a removal option.
- End the game via swarm of weenies.
All righty. It's a rather weird, but fun deck that's evolved over the last few years. Comments / suggestions / decklists / hatemail all welcome and appreciated.
Skullclamp will probably give you extra draw that will be wasted and discarded at the end of the trun, I think it's possible this gives you enough. Also you will have weak creatures, saccin' the potential chump blockers is bad. Unless they have 2 toughness. Then you draw when they chump block. Which will make you lose live with Mindstorm Crown.
Hey, round 2! That's better. There is some overlap of comments so I won't address all but...
- Bridges is an awesome suggestion.
- Had some long games, but haven't self milled yet; I nuked one of my pieces with my own artifact kill once (maybe in 1 in 20 games) and maybe held a card to stop the Crown. If it happens enough to you, I like the Elixir myself.
- Good idea to upgrade to better removal if you have the budget.
- Ember Hauler is right on target! (I use the Legionnaire though.)
- Clamp... sure. Whatevs floats your boat. Auto-include to about any deck.
Awesome deck! I've been experimenting with it lately and since I'm cheap and can't afford aether vials changed to be a more burn style deck that tops out with anthem of rakdos

And maybe one or two Feldon's canes? That way you don't die by selfmill, if that ever happens.
Thanks to Darth Monkey and SGT_Chubbz at Damnation Studios for the sig and banner.
