Squee, Goblin Nabob. Made immortal by the phyrexians. Ertai's murderer and savior of the Weatherlight on a few occasions. Smarter than most Bogarts I might add. Not to mention brave. Squee, Goblin Nabob, General of my EDH deck. Here's the list. --Decklist
Squee, Goblin Nabob is the red general I chose for this deck because its a unique general, the deck kills him repeatedly and then does it some more. I wanted squee because he is a general that you don't need to recast from the Command Zone.
Why I keep using Squee now:
When I go to a game with a new group of people they see my general and start laughing I get comments like "Why squee?" and "you must not play to win" etc... Well that's what everyone used to say, but my regular playgroup says "Well, my general is going to die a lot this game". I play squee for two reasons and two reasons only. 1.) he is fun and 2.) he wins without combo. I am not that guy that sits behind a combo deck and bores everyone half to death with a twenty minute turn and wins with a couple broken cards. I am the guy who is laughing and having a good time with everyone and nobody is hating me and swearing because I just laid my last combo piece.
How does squee win:
Squee, Goblin Nabob DOESN'T WIN! It's true, I'll admit it. Squee just helps you win actually.
Here's how I use squee. Squee + Skullclamp/Chandra/Gargadon/Jaya Ballard/fiery Conclusion/reckless abandon/Chain reaction/wheel of fate. Not to mention squee can pretty much block like a beast. Nobody wants to attack unless they have flying or trample because if they attack squee is just coming back, and a squee in my hand is dangerous.
In conclusion:
So there is my explanation, If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, please feel free to get your opinion in the comment section. I love reading what people have to say Thanks for reading I do appreciate your time. EXCEPTION
(Sol Ring is banned in the 1vs1 Games, this is intended for multiplayer, but performs well in 1vs1 and I thought it would be cool to show the match ups as best as I could. Please take into account that me and the people I VS'd agreed that sol ring and Hinder and other cards could be used in 1vs1 as if it were multiplayer. Thanks)
(NEW!) Match Ups:
I am NOT mentioning names of any players in these match ups, I refer to people as their General, and I do apologize for any confusion this may cause. Thank you, and I hope you enjoy my games (: One VS one Squee moments:
Most of the time I was chump blocking with Squee against a 5/5 or greater Dakkon Blackblade, which gets a little mana intensive because my opponent was still able to play good spells while I was tight on mana. We played best of 5 games. Squee did lose though. The match up was about 3 loses and 2 wins against dakkon blackblade. 5th-7th turn magister sphinx usually hit the board and Sorin Markov with his general out was extremely difficult to fight around. Props to my opponent's play skill and deck. First game I won with a first turn greater gargadon suspended, 3rd turn squee, and 4th turn furnace of rath and slowly dropped dragons on the board. And the other win was due to a few big creatures and the BUST side of Boom / Bust. (thanks to squee for the card draw with skull clamp etc.)
Best of 5 again, Squee came out of this match victorious. With Momir Vig, Simic Visionary only being a 2/2 Power and toughness it was quite easy to kill him before a creature could be played to tutor out more creatures, I was also able to keep either a shard pheonix or Jaya Ballard, Task Mage on the field for those "in response" moments. Most of the creatures in the deck I was VSing were only 2/2 but some bigger creatures gave me some issues such as Trigon Predator and Simic Sky Swallower. Usually Trigon Predator died before it destroyed too many important artifacts, Simic Sky Swallower came on the board late game and by that time I was able to attack with creatures big enough to destroy him if it blocked and leave a flier open to block (usually a Steel Hellkite in which I could pump to a 6/5 P/T)
Ertai, the corrupted is a unique general and sometimes hard to VS when a Reassembling Skeleton was in the graveyard or on the battlefield. I developed a strategy for this deck and that was to lure Ertai, the corrupted into countering a burn spell that would either target him or another creature that could be sacrificed to his ability. This would ensure that Ertai, or another creature that would get sac'ed would die or tap down to let me lay another spell. This was good because with Hammer of Bogardan I was able to target the skeleton and bring the Sorcery back to my hand at my upkeep. However, this deck also played Magister Sphinx, Serra Ascendant, Sorin Markov, and other goodies. A first turn Serra Ascendant was near impossible to destroy with mono red until turn 4-6. That is about 24 damage worth of Serra Ascendant beating my face in with flying life link. Anyways, the match up was in Squee, Goblin Nabob's favor due to land destruction late game, burn spells with my strategy, and Jaya Ballard, Task mage. I was able to recur squee for countless amounts of damage.
Multiplayer Squee!
I'm only going to be posting about 2-3 Multiplayer games on here, a six player game is a little hard to explain everything going on, but I'll do my best to describe how I responded to situations and what not, enjoy. Multiplayer game #1. Squee, Goblin Nabob, Karrthus, Tyrant of Jund, and Dakkon Blackblade
Playing dragons I was a little nervous about Karrthus, Tyrant of Jund being played against me, and my previous foe Dakkon Blackblade who I had a poor match up with. This game wasn't looking toward my favor to start, but I had high hopes for squee. I do want to say this is one of those games where someone said "Squee?! Why Squee?!" Yea... ok... Anyways, we got into the game and I dropped a skull clamp pretty much 2nd-3rd turn and had tons of card draw. Karrthus didn't hit the field until late game and Dakkon was building up a good pace. Dragons were all over the battlefield- not under my control, and Dakkon was also out and ready to start getting some general damage in for a fast kill. Me? Well I had a squee on the board which worked great because Dakkon Blackblade wouldn't attack me because he'd get chumped, dragons wouldn't attack me because then they'd be open to Dakkon. Stalemate, those are no fun. I had a Crucible of worlds in my hand, a Jokulhaups, and Steel Hellkite. This was looking good. Tapped all my lands for 9 mana, played Jokulhaups then dropped a Crucible of Worlds, land from the yard. I was set, top decked goodies and played from my graveyard which also contained a strip mine to slow down my opponents. With the top deck of a Greater Gargadon I was able to destroy each player a turn apart. I won that game with only TWO LIFE!!!! Very lucky, but Squee, Goblin Nabob did it again! Some key cards in that game were: Jokulhaups, Crucible of worlds, Molten Psyche, Greater Gargadon, and Ashling the Pilgrim (for a sweeper effect). Oh and by the by, the guy who underestimated Squee said "Wow you really abused him!" (i'll take that as a compliment i guess)
Yet another person who questioned Squee's capability. We got into the game and first turn was a skull clamp, followed by squee and lots of card draw which then followed a comment "That is so good, not gunna lie" (maybe i changed his mind about squee haha). Gwafa Hazid, Profiteer dropped down a Serra Ascendant (everyone has one i guess), around 3-4th turn which was annoying. Momir Vig and I were exchanging land kills with Terastadons, strip mines, and icefall. Then Momir Vig Hinders my general to the bottom of my deck and kills my Valakut! Wow just when I was getting ramped up. So no general, and a very good land set up was not disrupted. I recovered quickly by laying a steel hellkite which died but served as a blocker and a way to direct damage from me to Momir Vig, who had no board at the time. (i can't remember, but I think it was because his general died a lot that his deck was just acting a little bit slower it normally works really well). Anyways, Momir Vig dies to a Sun titan and Serra Ascendant. I drop an Akroma, Angel of Fury and start swinging for big-big damage. Protection from white/blue was too good to be true at this point. I ended up losing by 1 turn... How? Well I was stupid, I forgot to pay for fire-breathing with my Akroma ONCE because I was paying attention to some people trading or something... Ugh. Oh well. I did lose, but it was a very good game. Props to both of my opponents.
First I will start by saying Reaper King Guy liked Squee, but Vorosh was a little skeptical. Anyways, I wanted to show Vorosh guy that Squee, goblin nabob IS GOOD. So I did. My hand to start was mostly land and this wasn't looking good, but I kept anyways because I felt a little rushed by the other players, I also didn't want to risk not having lands in the next hand and having to mulligan down to six... yuck. Anyways, I rolled a 20 and got to go first and top decked a Great Gargadon (SWEET), Suspended that! Turn 3 squee, goblin nabob followed by some mana-ramping, a sword of fire and ice and a loxodon warhammer! I was feeling lucky. I dropped a Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs and a Shard Phoenix. This was cool because (I can't remember the name of this card...) reaper king played an artifact that states whenever you play a creature spell you get a 1/1 myr artifact creature. Nobody would attack me because they didn't want to mana for Kazuul and they didn't want me to get a bunch of 3/3's haha. So I had a good amount of creatures, about 4-5 at this point. Vorosh was doing great in terms of card draw, fixing and ramping. Reaper king was laying tons of artifacts- I actually had no idea what his deck was supposed to do... It just made a bunch of Myrs and nobody really attacked him. Sliver guy had about 4 slivers on his field all 2/2 and flying or something from a blue sliver (Shard phoenix couldn't hit them but at one point i used sword of fire and ice to direct two damage at the sliver that gave other slivers flying and sacrificed my shard phoenix to take down his entire board), Iname, death aspect played his general and pretty much dumped 50% of his deck into his yard, and Dakkon was missing land drops. I figured Iname, death aspect was going to drop a patriarch's bidding and that wouldn't have been pretty, with a molten psyche I was able to wash away that card and by the groans of the other players I got a couple other good cards too and deal a considerable amount of damage :D.I was getting hated on a little bit, so I sacrificed Myrs and Squee for Greater Gargadon, equiped my hammer and sword to him. Sliver Overlord just hit Dakkon for 7 general damage- Why hate on the player with 2 lands of the same color in a three color deck? I honestly don't know, I believe he thought his deck would explode late game or something, that's a little hard to do with Esper colors in my opinion. Anyways, I was hitting Sliver Overlord for 14 damage or more a turn with my Greater Gargadon because I told Dakkon That'd I have his back if anyone attacked him since he was land screwed. So I pretty much annihilated Overlord will little trouble. I was at about 56 life and 18 general damage from vorosh (that flier is a beast). I started working on Vorosh after this point, killing his general which I thought would have made him useless... (part 2 is next)
Multiplayer Game #3 Part 2
What was everyone else doing? Same old, Reaper King still laying random artifacts (Still had no idea what his deck was doing), Iname death aspect was... well it had a 2/2 something or another... and.. nope that's it. just one creature. I think I may have really ruined his plan with his general and reanimating his entire deck. Go me I guess! Dakkon Blackblade laid about 2 more lands and was up to about 4 with NO WHITE MANA! OUCH! Dakkon was thankful, but couldn't save me from a 6/6 Flying Dragon with Shroud and Haste. He some how managed to squeeze enough mana out for a Vorosh and already had his lightning greaves in play... darn :\ so I lost to general damage at about 48 life and a board of about 8 creatures. well that stunk.
Smoked a cigarette and came back. Vorosh had beat everyone with general damage. (that was quick!). Nobody laid a flier to stop him. Props to Vorosh, the hunter. Very good deck! I was impressed. He told me after the game "You have a very good mono red deck there, those decks take a lot of skill to make, I'm impressed, maybe squee is one of the better mono red generals".... YEAH BOI!!! anyways, it was a good game. Thanks for reading that long description. Best cards for that game (that I drew) were: Skull clamp, Flametongue Kavu, greater gargadon, sword of fire and ice, loxodon warhammer, Ashling the Pilgrim, Chain Reaction, Shard Phoenix, and Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs.
Awesome, man. Even though your Squee deck is more creature-heavy than mine, I'm sure we can still learn a lot from each other. There are a lot of interesting card choices that I'm eager to hear about!
Since you run a lot of mana artifacts, have you considered All is Dust in place of Oblivion Stone? It's not as versatile, but it seems like it would cause a lot less collateral damage to your own board position.
Shattering Spree seems like a decent upgrade compared to Smash to Smithereens, allowing you to perform a one-sided board wipe or replicate a few copies at the blue mages' key artifacts.
@d0su: I appreciate you taking the time to look at my deck as I did yours. There is no coincidence that you and I both play squee, You actually inspired me to build this deck- and I thank you. I studied each card in your decklist and deck tested about 30 times until I came up with my list. When I saw your deck I said "Wow I want to make THAT deck!" lol. So I traded for the best red cards I could get, and built a similar deck to yours, then I took it in a direction I was comfortable with. I've won a lot of games with it. I have you to thank
To the questions: Hoard-smelter dragon = Very good. Early game he says "lay that artifact excel and I'll eat it!" Your opponent will not want to get his/her artifacts destroyed. Late game you drop him and eat an artifact, at instant speed and pumping him. I'd rate him 5/5 for EDH. Ancient Hellkite = This guy is a little bit slower, you have to get to 7 mana then you don't get to do any of his abilities not even attack. But that is OK because late game when you drop him you know he's going to get his Kill/death ratio up! Attack and leave your mana open- flash cards, chump blockers, or creatures given flash by vedalken orrery etc. are useless. They get eaten alive. (5/5) Shivan Hellkite = This is my "sniper", when I play Shivan- Utility generals die. Most have 1-2 toughness, 4 mana and you get a kill. He's just OK, but he doesn't have to attack to do his ability. Shivan is just an OK dragon. Cool late game beat stick tho. 3/5 Goblin Charbelcher = Great card. A little mana intensive, but after a wrath of god, it's your best friend. Works best with Sensei's divining top, but still good. Can get crazy amounts of damage with furnace of wrath only good in mono-red tho. 4/5 Incendiary Command = This card is an acquired taste really. Great for tokens, if they got a Rhys, the redeemed you got his number
Destroy a non-basic very good, refresh hand is ok but needed sometimes, 2 damage to each creature is amazing, and 4 damage to a player can get planeswalkers which is awesome. I really like it now that I have used it for so long, but you have to give it a FEW tries. Still only 3/5 Anarchist = horrible early game, late game it will probably be one of your best top-decks unless you planar portal for it. Get that 1 burn spell you need to clear the board/kill an opponent. Hands down amazing. 5/5
Response to all is dust: Don't have one! I would run that card in a heartbeat if I could. I really want it.
You are absolutely right about Shatter Spree, it is much better than Smash to Smithereens, But i don't have that card either sadly..
I don't like terramorphic Expanse because that land comes into play tapped which i hate. I like the mana when I need it. Bloodstained mire is perfect for me with Crucible of Worlds. Especially great with those late game mountains for valakut or a big dragon.
I enjoy your ideas with the Eldrazi creatures, I tried that but I found I never get the mana for them. For enchantments I have a great way to deal with them Let everyone else playing the right colors do that haha. But one vs one it's hard, so i just blow up their lands over and over again then drop a crucible and laugh.
But my #1 favorite creature in this deck is hoard-smelter dragon I think you should give it a try. Great damage + artifact kill, very well rounded. Hope this helps, please shoot more questions my way
As I suggested to d0su, you should really look into Molten Psyche, especially with all your artifact ramp.
I know its expensive, but Dragonstorm has been friggin awesome for me, and I only run 3-4 dragons. If you can play any spell before it, it becomes Tooth and Nail, and that's really just gravy in any deck. While on the topic of dragons, why no love for Dragon Mage? The thing that sold me (personally) on Squee was his ability to draw a ton of cards in Red, which is sooo unique (I've never seen another red deck with so much CA, it's truly nutty how good Squee is in this format), and Dragon Mage is a creature that is also a Wheel of Fortune, which you should invest in as well, cause this card is soo great. Opponent tutors, you Wheel, and they cry, despite the hand refill.
Good luck! Glad to see the awesomeness that is Squee is catching on.

Molten Psyche, Dragon Wizard, Dragonstorm, and Wheel of Fortune. I own a Molten Psyche, but the others I'll have to trade for. I only know two people with Dragonstorm/Wheel of fortune, and they have a hard time giving those beasts up. I've never seen Dragon Wizard before, but he looks awesome and looks really fun! I'll add those to a "soon to get list" on my original post.
Also, Really glad to see all the love for Squee! Thanks for the support so far everyone
Does anyone think a Sword of Light and Shadow would be good in this deck? I feel that if I lose a few dragons in a wrath of god that I'm weakened (maybe too much) to the point where it'll take too long to recover. This could get me my creatures back and Prevent white spot removal and one of my attackers/blockers. Any thoughts?

Even though they seem cool on paper, I've never seen Hoard-Smelter Dragon, Ancient Hellkite, or Shivan Hellkite in action. So what's the verdict? Are they good? Are they just okay? The same goes for Goblin Charbelcher, Incendiary Command, and Anarchist. Sorry to keep pelting you with questions; I'm just interested is all!

Fetchlands are a little expensive, but what about Terramorphic Expanse and Evolving Wilds? They make Goblin Charbelcher a little worse, but they really power up your Crucible of Worlds. They also form a nifty little combo with the Boom half of Boom//Bust.
Just a few ideas.
