This comes from a source who wants to stay anonymous, but it's a reliable one from what I can tell.
Predatory Focus - ![]() ![]() ![]() Sorcery (U) You may have creatures you control deal their combat damage to defending player this turn as though they weren't blocked. Illus. Zoltan Boros & Gabor Szikszai #92 Everything's a Thorn Elemental, for the turn. Could be an alpha-strike card in limited. Dryad Sophisticate - ![]() ![]() Creature - Dryad (U) Nonbasic landwalk 2/1 Illus. Ron Spears This is kind of filler, but I don't think it's that bad. Reminds me of Lynx, to a degree. Nonbasic lands are pretty common in some formats, so he's a 2/1 unblockable for 2. Not quite a River Boa in Legacy, though. Conjurer's Ban - ![]() ![]() Sorcery (U) Name a card. Until your next turn, the named card can't be played. Draw a card. Illus. Pete Venters This one's very interesting. For one thing, it's multicoloured instead of white (the other source from the names thread wasn't sure about this one, so I guess it turned out he was wrong). I think cards like this have the potential to be good, because they can really mess with a strategy. If you know what they're up to, you can totally shut them down. And for two mana, you get to draw a card as well... so even if you've got no idea what to name, you "cycle" it and guess. I'll try playing with this. Also, very funny in multiplayer, as you can hose 3 or more people if you choose the right card. Adding to the spoiler! |

Conjurers ban looks quite useful... like a mini meddling mage
It may see play in a form of orzhov control if they start printing some useful win conditions in BW.

- Please ask your source about the Ghost council!
- Only 6 Orzhov rares (Hybrid and B/W). Strange! Last edited by caesarion : 01-17-2006 at 05:24 AM. |

Predatory Focus will be nasty in limited - it basically says "Win the game" for any of the creature stalls green decks are famous for.
Dryad Sophisticate - filler, but neat filler. No problem with this. Conjurer's Ban - now this is more like it. Interesting, intelligent, and a nice effect. Much more of cards of this quality, please. Out of interest, can Conjurer's Ban stop a land-drop?

Dryad Sophisticate might as well read "' 'Tis unblockable." Very nice aggro card, infi better than Zodiac monkey which still gets some love in Standard. Good with Ninjas and stuff.

Very nice cards. I don't suppose Conjurer's Ban could stop you from playing lands, could it? I'm fuzzy on the definition of "playing a card".
Dryad Sophisticate is pretty funny flavor. It sticks to the hot spots in Ravnica. What's next, Goblin Metrosexual?

Ban is great against monocolor decks - on turn 2 you're just naming their kind of land and it leave them without second/third land drop and drawing a card. Cool. The other two are just fillers, though fun fillers.

Predatory Focus is a limited card. Feels like Dance of Shadows very nice.
Pretty much the same goes with the Sophisticate. 2/1s for 2 are always ok, and now the opponents will think twice before they ley down their Karoos. Conjurer's Ban on the other hand is very nice. This one might as well see Constructed play. The strange thing is that I was expecting such a card from the Azorius.

Conjurer's Ban is interesting - though, like it was said before, it doesn't really fit in the guild. I think it'll see Constructed play because...
1. It's a cantrip. Even if you miss, you get a card. 2. It's tempo advantage. Keep 'em from playing any lands. 3. It can keep you from having to face Wildfire and other finishers for one more turn. 4. It can, um, keep counterspells down. :\ ...that said, it won't see too MUCH Constructed play. Nevertheless, quite possibly the best Orzhov card we've seen, in my opinion. |

Hm, Master Warcraft is better than Predatory Focus.
The 2/1 guy is quite useful. Similar to Nezumi Cutthroat.

I think it is in flavor with the guild too: not only Azorius are able too ban something! Azorius have the power of law, but Orzhovs have the power of religion! Sure, the card reminds Meddling Mage, but I don't see why it couldn't be ![]() Last edited by Darkever : 01-17-2006 at 05:49 AM. |

i wouldn't call this the best orzhov card so far, seems pretty cool,
though i not sure if the effect is actually good enough to see play though. at least they made it a cantrip i guess, cause if you dont play discard your hit rate aint going to be to high... |

Wow, are you sure Conjurer's Ban doesn't say nonland? Turf Wound wasn't any good but this has a whole extra degree of versatility. Pretty good if it can name lands, so-so if it can't.
The Dryad's pretty good, Predatory Focus is worse than making all your guys unblockable, not that green gets to do that really. Of course, it's also worse than Overrun by a longshot. Comparable to Falter, Dirge of Dread, Wave of Indifference, things like that. |

Hmm, Conjurers Ban seems weak in a way due to the drawback of all the Shocklands/Painlands in Standard at the moment, this means its hard to stop land drops which is the most useful function for this imo. Although as R_E said, stopping Wildfire or Gifts for a turn could be fun
