MTG Salvation

This deck has been abandoned and was never built in cardboard.


It's meant to play as Voltron with lots of ramp, draw, and recursion, and to take advantage of Thrun's regenerate. Plenty of other beatdown fatties and tokens included as a backup to take advantage of pump cards, and a solid tutoring suite to search for answers to problems.

I'm a little less experienced with Voltron and Mono-Green builds than other stuff, so please suggest any really good cards I could include. And I'm sure the balances will need to be tweaked some.

I'll be honest - I don't really like this guy. He just seems kinda wimpy compared to the likes of Omnath, Molimo, Multani, green Patron, green Kamahl, or even Azusa. Being only 4-power by himself means that he'll take quite a lot of time to do 21 general damage, and he doesn't have any broken abilities that you can really interact with (like Omnath or Kamahl, for example). I suppose that regeneration has gotten a lot better lately now that new-age board wipes like Day of Judgment allow regeneration, and I suppose he would probably be better in 1v1 than in multiplayer.

If you must play with him, Bellowing Tanglewurm would help him evade blockers, and Yavimaya Hollow is always a good card for green decks (even if the general regenerates himself). Argentum Armor should be good with this guy since he can't be targeted and green is quite good at generating lots of mana.

Ezuri seems kinda weak because you don't have many other Elves.

Ezuri isn't in there for elves, he's in there to give Thrun overrun, but since I forgot that he only pumps elves....... Thank you, lol.

It may turn out you're right and he won't prove out to be all that tough, but I think he's worth a trial shot. He probably will be a lot better for duels than multiplayer.

I'd get Miren, The Moaning Well, High Market, and Erratic Portal in there to basically make your general impossible to dealwith even when it comes to stuff like Wrath of God, Damnation, Hallowed Burial, or Final Judgement.

I'd put Fierce Empath in pretty much any green deck.

He's a lot better than you think, for the simple fact that he's a lot harder to deal with. Can't be countered + troll shroud means most disruption on him won't work allowing you to freely buff him up for a one-shot kill. In order to take advantage of him, you have to build him differently than guys like Omnath, Patron and Azusa. It won't be as strong of a strategy since it relies too heavily on the general, but I think it's definitely viable.

Consider Primal Bellow and other pump spells. They may be one-shot effects but they can allow you to take someone out in a single swing.

Green has acess to the best creature pump enchantments in the game

All of theese make your general huge. Throw in some trample/protection support like

And the totem armors seem good here too. Especially bear umbra

This general is going to be murder to deal with. He can't be countered, and your opponents can't target him after he hits the field. Chaos effects hit, but regeneration takes care of all but wrath,damnation,and their ilk. This will be a fantastic voltron general, better than uril even.

I don't think so. Troll comes in earlier and has the regen thing going for it, not to mention being mono green improves the ramping possibilites and guarantees a stable manabase (and on a budget).

Want Chord of Calling for its instant speed.

I favor land ramp over artifact ramp. That means Cultivate, Skyshroud Claim, Explosive Vegetation, Hunting Wilds. Ramp+LD cards Mwonvuli Acid-Moss,, Reap and sow. All these guys will benefit late game landfall from Avenger of Zendikar. Running more of these ramp spells will offset your curve to allow you to hardcast bigger endgame stuff such as the other two Eldrazi legends. I had a sample deck of Thrun somewhere in the unreleased and unspoiled section.

For multiplayer IMO, I would share the troll love by giving everything (Troll) shroud and uncounterability like Asceticism, Boseiju, Who Shelters All, Leyline of Lifeforce, and other shroud/uncounterable/protection spells to give the deck lots of flavor. Since he stood by an did nothing for his Troll brethren they're all dead. He cannot sit idle anymore.

Although, he might be better in one on one EDH rather than multiplayer. Thrun seems to me like he really wants to go in there by himself bash face and win with three or less swings, Ramp/Pump/Swing. Some cards I would consider for that task would be Primal Bellow and Blanchwood Armor as mentioned along with Strata Scythe, Might of Oaks, Stonewood Invocation and Untamed Might along with some trample enchantments or artifacts like Primal Rageand Loxodon Warhammer.

all true. and my eyes, for some reason, just scanned right over the "Can't be countered." part. he's pretty gross now that i stop and think about it

I'm in the process of preparing a mono-green voltron deck for Thrun once I can get hold of him. One card that I ran across that I though might be really good is Shape of the Wiitigo. Since Thrun will probably be attacking every turn he won't lose counters too often.

Monstrify looks good since you can retrace it late game...

And you really need to run Nim Deathmantle... +2/+2, Intimidate and recursion! It's nice!

Worldslayer. It's hard to use, but oh man does it infuriate people. Thrun and Skithiryx both have built-in regeneration, making them prime generals for abuse. The trick is either 1) maintaining mana somehow to keep regenerating (via Darksteel Ingot and such) or 2) have another regenerator\indestructible guy to move the slayer onto afterward to resume general damage beatings.

Looks like you have a solid list going at any rate. I can't think of anything else to add other than the 'Slayer combo. Except perhaps Gilded Lotus....

Over all I am not a fan of Wild Pair. It doesn't seem like your guys will be functional enough to get the creatures you are looking for at any given moment. I think Chord of Calling would be better.

You already have Tooth and Nail, Fauna Shaman, Green Sun's Zenith, Primal Command, Genesis Wave, and Survival of the Fittest to get you creatures. Also Chord of Calling is instant speed and you can potentially play it while all your lands are tapped and puts that creature into play just like Wild Pair.

I would use theese over that treefolk package any day. More power here I think. What's the krosian tusker in there for?

Also, I would run verdant embrace and ancestral mask over fists and tiger enchantments. there are plenty of green creatures that bestow trample on other creatures, and the best equips do too....or circumvent and just flat grant protection.

The Tusker is most likely in their for the Cycle/Land Fetch. That is the only real reason I could ever see someone running it. It isn't terrible. It is pretty good though.

A couple of ideas:

You currently scoop to a Wake of Destruction, so my favorite card to combat against this is Timber Protector, which is surprisingly good. You can also sneak him into play instantly with Chord of Calling, Vedalken Orrery or Winding Canyons.

Regal Force is a pretty obnoxious card draw engine, especially combined with Tooth and Nail and Avenger of Zendikar.

Summoner's Pact is another good tutor you're missing. Also Crop Rotation is surprisingly good, countering LD and/or fetching out needed land at instant speed. Defense of the Heart is another good one.

Vernal Bloom is amazing. It will ramp you a lot (probably more than any other player) and it also gets around Contamination and Infernal Darkness.

I pretty much put Mana Reflection an all my green decks.

Lastly, I don't know how competitive your playgroup is, but Hall of Gemstone and Ritual of Subdual are simply amazing disruption cards.

I think that a good addition for you would be Riding the Dilu Horse.
I know I've used it well in the past with troll-shroud guys, but it seems it could be good to have a 6/6 unblockable, untargetable, regenerating general.

(It's just too bad Karakas isn't around anymore. Not that this deck could play it, but then he could jump mass destruction effects, too.)
