Welcome to my thread. This is the premier 1v1 cube for the Winnipeg area and has been operational since February 2011. Winnipeg has a large amount of active cubes, mostly being designed for the 2v2 format. The only 2v2 cube on these forums from our area that I know of on the forums belongs to weaponX and while it is somewhat out of date, feel free to take a look.
I used to be a big 5-color (or 250) player and maintained an active online presence on those forums as well. I also wrote a few tournament reports for their site but they have been since lost due to the difficulties the format eventually experienced in being overtaken by EDH. It was hard to get players involved before but after the explosion in popularity it was impossible. Most of the high end foils I have were from playing highlander variants and it was an easy transition into finally building my own cube.
This cube contains many of the standard and popular card choices that you will find online however has its own twists that come from the 2v2 cube format that dominates the area. Flash is a card I don’t see promoted online much but is well respected around here for its potential. You don’t want to be on the receiving end of a turn 2 Flashed Woodfall Primus trust me. Oath of Druids is another popular card that is run quite often. While these cards are inherently weak on their own, when you slot them into existing archetypes like Reanimator or Natural Order strategies they can become quite beastly.
Feel free to discuss anything I am open to suggestions but generally slow to change. I am still gradually swapping things and judging performance from cubes around here and suggestions from other threads. I only end up doing a few Winston drafts and a few normal drafts a week so cards may need to some to prove themselves. I do not post abundantly but do usually read most of them in this section of the forums.

How do you find Arrogant Bloodlord. I have been looking for more solid black 3 drops.
I have not played with him personally yet, but have seen him in play once on my team's side in a mono black deck, he seemed to be doing some good work.
I ask people to provide me any feedback as it comes with decks, card choices etc but all I really get is "my deck is awesome" or you get people with piles of un-synergistic piles of cards who agree they should have cubed better. Nothing really yet as of what what doesn't work. I have seen a ton of combinations so far ranging from standard mono red burn to out there 4 color planeswalker armageddon control.
The only cut cut that happened so far was removing Coralhelm Commander for Consecrated Sphinx. Ups the curve but blue handles itself fine as it is, if it can spend a few installments on making him a 4/4 it can handle tapping out for a bomb.
This is a pretty cool list. Briefly scanning it, I saw that you aren't playing either of the protectionknights which I think definitely make the cut at this size, and Albino Troll isn't here either. I would cut one of the 6+ mana creatures in green for him in a heartbeat. Those things are what caught my eye, and other than that, this looks like great work.
in my opinion, "unfun" effects are really just effects a player doesn't understand how to use or how to beat. i'd rather understand (and play with others who understand) how to use and beat powerful effects than simplify the cube so no one has to.
For all I know, you are Kai Budde and for all you know I'm John Finkel. It doesn't matter. What matters is your logical argument for or against the card in question.
Thanks for the output eidolon. The comparison shows vaguely what I knew already in regards to what is standard what is not. There are various reasons why some cards were not added but a few were added to my consideration list. Just judging from most of the cards it seems that most cubes are slightly slower builds compared to this one even though its large.
Also thanks for the typo and deckstats conversion. Added to mws in a flash, only needed to add in the two split cards and a placeholder for Mox Crystal to compute the average CMC of 2.96. All typos have been corrected to the main post and a few cards added to the shortlist, I just went and removed the asterisks by the alternate casting costs cards. I ordered it by base CMC anyways, if things can be cheated into play so be it.
@Strange: White knight has been on the consideration list for a while, there are a few white cards I am keeping an eye on that I want to see in sideboards or played before I act on them. Silver Knight on the other hand is not on the shortlist, I feel its him or Kor Firewalker. The Firewalker I feel has more potential upsides and synergies than just another first strike dude. It would be neat to have Silver, White, Black and Blood Knights in though :p.
The Albino Troll I have been back and forth for a while on adding him to shortlist and not, he was in the main on one of the earlier builds as well. I put him back on the shortlist to be considered later. Someone has a foil one around here that I can acquire. There are 1-2 cards I can see losing for that dude as well, I doubt Oracle who is also on my shortlist could make it in, he is just another 4 drop.
Its neat how deckstats also spat out a monetary value which is probably low as cards in my area cost a lot more on average than online, I assume that's true for a lot of local stores. Winnipeg is particularly bad for that. I do own most power pieces but proxy them in the cube and over 70% easy is foil and growing fast, the actual value is probably over 10k.
I do appreciate how unlike kirby, you opted to play good cards over a lot of very situationally ok cards.
I wouldn't mind seeing bad versions of cards to help allow for drafting of archetypes. I'll draft bad reanimation spells as an example if that's the deck I'm trying to play.... That or shrink it down a smidge. Either way it is easily the best 1v1 cube we have right now.

Well its not hard to be the best 1v1 when its the only one
On the topic of worse versions of cards like (reanimation spells) over other cards, it is quite a slippery slope. If you start running stuff like Stitch Together, Vigor Mortis or Zombify just to push a archetype that much more you water down other strategies. During the last cube draft the G/B/u reanimator deck was the best deck at the table, it may have just enough density that if you get it, its awesome, but its not over drafted so too many people are not vying for the same cards. Makeshift Mannequin does make the cut due to being instant speed. Miraculous Recovery Is a potential card in white as it already has Karmic Guide.
Cubed a few times last week, including at a different store and it seems to be going well. The change from the normal team cube is refreshing, recieving postive comments all around. Even put some money down on the last cube but we ended up losing. I personally went 1-2, my worst record so far. Figures I fail to produce good results when it matters.
-Skizzik + Keldon Champion
Made this change, I had to buy either card, the champion is better and cheaper to purchase. Now just to get a foil one this week, too bad it will be the Fire Lightning version.
Silver Knight v Kor Firewalker - I suppose Firewalker would get the edge against Red Deck Wins, but in every other match I'd rather have the knight. The first strike lets him take out aggro creatures in other colors with ease, whereas the Firewalker will trade with any non-red creature they send my way. If I'm playing aggro, I'm a thousand times more frustrated to see a 2/2 first striker that can't be burned on the other side of the board than I am a Dragon's Claw with legs. I think Firewalker was only good as a metagame call against decks that are heavily into red, and I don't think those decks show up that often in cube.
Albino Troll is much more important than just another green fatty IMO. I'd cut Gaea's Revenge or Pelakka Wurm, since they're throwing off your curve. I'm not sure what you meant when you said "Oracle", but if you mean Oracle of Mul Daya, I'd certainly add the Troll before her.
How about Catastrophe and Nevinyrral's Disk? The former is one of the best cards in white, and the latter is one of the best artifacts. Is there a reason behind their exclusion?

That very well may be in regards to Kor Firewalker that Silver Knight is better on average more than a walking Dragon's Claw. The Firewalker is also a good card if you are piloting a R/W deck, against a whatever archetype. Its one of those things I will keep in my back pocket. It took a few weeks before I felt comfortable enough to make the color adjustments and post this list, it will probably be a few more before any more adjustments. The cube is also highly foil, I don't like to admit that downgrading to a non-foil card for a negligible gain would stop me, but it does bug me at least a bit. I think theres a foil one at the store for like 1.75, I will probably pick it up for later in case I do swap it.
White weenie has not been drafted like at all, I have drafted a W/B aggro list, seen a few white based control lists, but there hasn't been enough attempts yet. Maybe the people drafting on average don't gravitate towards that style of deck.
In regards to the Albino Troll, currently the weakest card in green that I have seen is Lead the Stampede. It has not been in any decks, I think I have seen it go around at least a few times, I would like to give it more time though. On the other hand both Gaea's Revenge and Pelakka Wurm have seen heavy play every time they have shown up. The Show and Tell / Sneak Attack / Reanimation types of decks are highly sought after and one version usually shows up per draft. I agree Oracle of Mul Daya is not going to cut it.
I've been looking at Nevinyrral's Disk, there are a few colorless slots that are comparably weaker. I was willing to give Contested War Zone A try, I ran it in an aggressive red deck to little effect but I think it was killed by a Wasteland, it did provide about two extra damage. The card did belong in my teammates white based token deck but he didn't draft it. It is probably far to narrow to run successfully. Unless something changes I imagine Disk will likely be added in the next update. There is a set of foil Chimeric Idol's at the shop though and they look dam cool.
Catastrophe is definitely a 6cc white sorcery. I had Akroma's Vengence and Austere Command in the initial list but the Command was cut due to slowness / not being as great as it looks on average. While Catastrophe is not just a sweeper, it does tread on Armageddon's toes. I would probably be more partial to add Cataclysm as it has a more unique effect and supports a different strategy. White already has 4 superior dedicated sweepers, adding more seems sup optimal, even Elspeth can sweep.
But Catastrophe is the 2nd best white sweeper IMO and one of white's top 10 cards. I'd run it over Vengeance or Command or Elspeth 2.0. Basically, if you are behind Catastrophe gets you back in the game; if you're ahead it seals the game. Hard to ask for a better card.
And I definitely prefer Albino Troll to Pelakka Wurm or Gaea's Revenge.
Please be aware that this cube supports more then just the standard Natural Order / Survival of the Fittest reanimation shenanigans. Many of the core deck strategies revolve around early picked Flash, Sneak Attack, Show and Tell or Oath of Druids (All flag as unusual cube cards by eidolon). I have seen each of those decks or more than one card in the same deck many times. Gaea's Revenge and Pelakka Wurm are higher picks and have been first picked in the later packs. Leap the Stampede is easily the card to cut if the Albino Troll would get the nod, but LtS will get another shot tonight.
I will ask a few of the guys about Catastrophe when we cube today and see what they think. I can see the card's potential in a vacuum but my instinct tells me 80% of the time at least it will be the wrath mode, so why not run a card that is better at doing so with an additional effect that matters. I don't run cards that will be in the sideboard most of the time, but in 20% of the match ups dominate an opponent.
I may be more tainted by the team 2v2 cube that I am used to playing; but Keiga was run in most of those cubes for a long time and you think with another person to steal creatures from would make him better, it just never really happened. The board gets sweeped, he gets bounced, he just sits there and noone attacks into him until its profitable. In most of those scenarios the Sphinx will draw you two cards where Keiga will net you nothing. Now I have not seen 1 game where the Sphinx has been in play yet as he was just added, so maybe he will be just as lackluster. Keiga seems fantastic against black and green, but probably doesn't do much versus the other 3 colors. White RFG's, Blue bounces steals or counters it, and red probably doesnt kill it and runs bears around it then burns you out.
Flash Keiga in as a desperate play would be pretty funny... Slave of Bolas not so much
Yes Goblin Wardriver has been pretty bleh, probably looking for options to replace it. Cunning Sparkmage may go in, maybe over Firesligner for a while but nothing definite yet.
Anyways thanks everyone for your input I appreciate it. Hopefully not coming off to stubborn but just trying to clarify why some things are the way they are at the moment. I also don't want to make changes too quickly and give cards time to show their potential. White Sun's Zenith is a card on my watch list, it was amazing in 1 deck one time but that's it, its basically a redundant Decree of Justice. Kind of weird it hasn't been pointed out when people have such defined opinions over a marginal differences over other notable cards.

I would include Catastrophe in any white deck I built. It literally would not sit in the sideboard ever. And it doesn't matter how often either side gets used. You run the card because it's a Wrath of God/Armageddon split card. Whichever of those two spells you need at that exact moment, that's what it is.
I haven't tested the Consecrated Sphinx, but my instinct says Keiga is better. He's probably the second best blue finisher (after Meloku, of course). It almost doesn't matter whether he steals something or not. The threat that he can do so makes your opponent have to play around him. If your opponent has a good creaure on the board when you drop Keiga, he has to use mass removal to avoid having his dude stolen or gets beat in the face for 5. That's really good.
I would include Catastrophe in any white deck I built.
i would not include it in a very aggressive deck, but basically all midrange and all control decks want this card. it's absurd and shouldn't rot in sideboards. unless every white deck your group builds is a white weenie deck that wins by turn 5 or earlier, catastrophe should be in your cube.
When I see Healing Salve, I'm often like "Oh girl, I wish I could turn every card into this." Thanks they removed the gain life part, otherwise this would have been broken.
I wanted to try him out, there was a foil one available. The zenith did show up once to good effect but was not run in any other deck. It is basically a redundant Decree of Justice but with less versatility so there's no real loss.
Only did one cube draft on Friday, the FMN draft took a long time again. It doesn't help when myself or another main drafter makes the finals every week, pushes the draft time back and limits it to one per week or two if they are fast. If anyone is interested I posted my deck in the "post what deck you last cubed" thread or whatever its called. I ran a land destruction focused Wildfire/D Force deck.
Lead the Stampede showed up again and was last picked, and did not deserve a slot in that deck. At this point I would probably give that Albino Troll a run as long as I can get the foil one. The guy who owns it does not show up every week though.
I talked to a few people about Catastrophe, no one seemed enthusiastic in regards to its 6 mana sorcery status and the redundant geddon effect. Maybe its just the difference in play style but there was just no support for that direction in general. Akroma's Vengeance did show up this draft but was that deck's sideboard. I will keep it in mind and try to represent it in future games. If I see someone draw a wrath effect think "How would Catastrophe play here?" Ravages of War will never be added just because there is an identical effect like that in the cube already.
I also scanned a bunch of the cube lists of various size on the front page, most play more white based mass removal than I do. Even smaller sized cubes had more dedicated sorceries than mine like Catastrophe, Rout, Austere Command, Parallax Wave in addition to all the normal ones. That is a ton of archetype hate. I suppose if you load your 40 card deck with 5 wrath effects you will beat aggro with very little interation...somewhat unbalanced imo. Wrath of God, Day of Judgment, some random finisher, then Catastrophe g.g. I am not dismissing the card entirely, but will not add Catastrophe at this time.
Lastly, why does nobody seem to run Cunning Sparkmage? He seems to kind of fill a needed slot, he does step on Fireslinger's toes. I would consider the sparkmage a much better card but the slinger is run more for curve purposes? I am currently running only Fireslinger, but is on the radar for a possible switch. Maybe I will just cut that stupid Goblin Wardriver for him.
you are undervaluing catastrophe and you should just play the card. put it in the cube, force it in a control deck, see how nuts it is. or you could dismiss it, never play it, and be excluding one of the best cube cards. after so much praise from other posters here, you don't even want to test the card? just in case?

i haven't found white wraths to be a problem for aggro. aggro shouldn't auto-lose "with very little interaction" because of some 5 and 6cc sorceries... what are your aggro decks doing turns 1-4? plus it's one of white's strengths, so i feel like it's kind of weird to exclude some of these cards. although i don't run parallax wave, and what do you mean by "the normal ones"?

fireslinger comes down a turn earlier (deals the damage on the same turn) and can block and kill x/2s. the self harm is usually not an issue. i think it's the better card, personally. not everyone will agree.
When I see Healing Salve, I'm often like "Oh girl, I wish I could turn every card into this." Thanks they removed the gain life part, otherwise this would have been broken.
Once again, I'm in agreement with qq. Your discussion of Catastrophe is right on the money.
In my 500 card cube (6-8 drafters usually), I run Wrath, Day of Judgment, Catastrophe, Rout, Akroma's Vengeance, Damnation, Barter in Blood, Powder Keg, Ratchet Bomb, Nevvie's Disk, and O-Stone. Aggro does just fine. I think at 560 you definitely have room for Catastrophe, and I'd certainly run it over Parallax Wave.
I would run Catastrophe over Parallax Wave as well, but I don't run that card or Rout or Austere Command. Overcharging on the wrath effects available does not exactly promote interaction, and the drafted deck types are quite varied. Really aggressive decks are the least common deck archetype at the moment. It is probably a fine card, it did not garner any interest from the people I talked to on Friday, but it does get high praise from many people on the forums. It will not be added at this time but I will keep it in mind as mentioned. When I see a wrath effect drawn, what would Catastrophe do here? I don't even own one at this time.
If aggro was dominating every game I would consider adding more at this time but why skew the balance even more. I do like Wrath of God and Day of Judgment much better due to the mana cost. Akroma's Vengeance is a catchall that can cycle for 3 and Martial Coup is a scaling wrath plus win con or a token generator that can be cast for less than 6cc.
Probably will try out Cunning Sparkmage at some point. Besides blue, there is at least 1 card per color that is identifiably weaker than the rest and can be removed for something else.
Overcharging on the wrath effects available does not exactly promote interaction
did you have more wraths in your cube and you had to cut them because aggro wasn't coming together? or is this just speculation on your part?
If aggro was dominating every game I would consider adding more at this time but why skew the balance even more.
if you cut a control card (sunblast angel, for example, or condemn) i don't think it would shift the balance at all. believe me, catastrophe isn't ruining aggro over here or in other cubes that run it. if adding one of the best cards in white to your cube ruins aggro, then make aggro better until you can run it comfortably.
When I see Healing Salve, I'm often like "Oh girl, I wish I could turn every card into this." Thanks they removed the gain life part, otherwise this would have been broken.
Cut generic Wall for another evasion guy. This one I don't like as some of the other options but gets the nod over other potential candidates at this time due to the 1W mana cost. I have seen the 2/1 Pegasus's in more decks than the WW creatures for that mana cost reason alone. That and white based aggro is not drafted like ever, may be that its a bad archetype.
Decree did some work, it tends to start out in sideboards which is the main reason. It instant speed cantrip Infest is of course why it is played and I did see it hardcast once...but it was Force Spiked. With Damnation and the new full art Black Sun's Zenith, in addition to all the terror and barter effects it just was not needed. I dint like many of the options for black at the moment and I don't see it as an aggro color so this dude gets the nod. He has the potential to end up in quite a few decktypes, albeit as a 20-23rd card.
The Wardriver did not drive any war's, it mostly was a bear, a hard to cast bear. People tend to really enjoy the Basilisk Collar / pinger aspect so I am pushing that with the addition of another pinger. Plus it helps give red the ability to kill small guys for free or large guys with 1 burn spell.
Yes I want to try Albino Troll out in this spot. I was unable to secure the foil one on Tuesday. Green also probably has too much artifact destruction at the moment, but I had to get this card out as it did nothing. Added in the foil Nantuko until I can get that troll for a spin, maybe can get the foil one before we cube on Friday if the guy who owns it shows up. Its only like a 3 dollar card foil...
Watchwolf was never really a problem, but he is just another dude. Decided to branch out a bit and give the wake a go. It may help spawn more various deck types, and run in more decks overall. It helps to have badass foils just sitting around in by binders.
I do not think the Monk was run once. Bant Charm stays in as the shard of choice card due to it always being good at any point in the game as long as you can cast it. The Bosk will be run because its easy fixing, as always there are slight imbalances between the shard/wedge colors. Might be able to do something about that once the new commander sets are released. There is no way I could cut Wild Nacatl or Thornscape Battlemage, maybe would have to move the Nacatl to green if that happens. The Esper sphinxes are mandatory and high picks around here. Might be able to cut Doran, as its never run, but it is my favorite card in Magic...
I think I got two damage out of the warzone once, that is pretty much it. Its not a terrible card but its far to narrow in what it does to warrant a slot. Wasn't too sure what to add at this time. I played against the golem in standard recently and was kind of annoyed at how he took over the game if he wasn't answered (I never had an answer...can't always run good). But it was enough to add him over something like Juggernaut or another narrow card like Signal Pest. I do not think Disk is necessary atm.
When I see Healing Salve, I'm often like "Oh girl, I wish I could turn every card into this." Thanks they removed the gain life part, otherwise this would have been broken.
Just got home and found out my foil Masques Squee and foil Solemn Simulacrum arrived. Cool foils to have before Friday
The lack of white based aggro can probably be attributed to two things. First off people like to build fun decks that do awesome things around here, so the outlier archetypes. Reanimator, Sneak attack, maybe some kind of Artifact heavy do some crazy thing deck. And they are powerful, depending on build can crush a lot of things. White is quite linear and unexciting.
The other reason is with the white based aggro if it is heavy white the deck is kind of...bad. The tricks are weak and far between so you start turning towards a support color. The only white aggro deck I played was also black. It ran a few of discard spells, Dark Confidant and some black removal, Swords to Plowshares, it did well. If you are using a red support color, why would you choose Isamaru over Goblin Guide? Wheel Isamaru wheel! I feel similar choices in other colors have abilities or upsides that can outclass standard white evasive / protection dorks. Soltari Monk or Fauna Shaman?
Blue color paring ends up control. Not sure how successful W/G combo could be, I don't remember seeing it. The scarcity of pinpoint removal for creatures doesn't exactly make it an attractive combo. There has been some strong Naya decks, a few successful monoish red decks, but no strait up 75% white or mono white. Unless you draw Armageddon every game (or can even draft it) the deck has little tricks and can be blown out with some brokenness. Nice turn 3 Bus.
Not many of my first picks send me down the white path. That is probably because it suits my playstyle more, but more so because its arguably the weakest mono color in cube. Adding Hokori should help with this aspect. I did lose to a W/x deck last time I played but lost to Mirran Crusader and Stillmoon Cavalier with my G/B deck more than the deck itself. Protection is pretty good if you cant provide a timely answer.
Now obviously there are no 5 card packs and its hard to craft a balanced example, but color preference plays a heavy roll in these types of picks. I would probably go Imp, Shredder or Snapper then Crusader or Ascetic just based on my play style alone. Green's 3 drops don't exactly define the color. U/B control is easily my most commonly drafted archetype, usually involving some ninjas. I can easily be swayed on any given day depending on what type of deck I feel like drafting but unless you are packing Armageddon and Balance, playing white just means playing fair, don't kill my stuff bro.
First off people like to build fun decks that do awesome things around here
that's weird, people like to build fun decks that do awesome things around here, too. and we build a lot of white aggro, which is a fun deck that does awesome things.
If you are using a red support color, why would you choose Isamaru over Goblin Guide?
this is a pretty misleading comparison. goblin guide is the best one drop ever, but in every other case white wins the efficient creature battle. its one and two drops tend to be notably better than red's. red brings some excellent aggro cards to the table, especially in the reach and mana denial departments (which are arguably more important than the dudes). but i'd pick savannah lions over jackal pup any day, for example.

Those are all fine 3 drops, but I think that Mirran Crusader or the Ascetic are the best ones, and as much as I love Calcite Snapper and Bone Shredder, they're the ones at the bottom.
Yes my bad for the Isamaru / Guide comparison, I like wrote it first and didn't think about it.
The Lions however is just a strictly better Jackal Pup.
Blood Knight or Sliver Knight? lol.
Myself I am just more accustomed to playing red rather than white. Usually when I want to see how viable something is I will go draft it. We don't draft a ton though so opportunities remain low. I would have to start off with something powerful enough to warrant a first pick and see how it goes. All the deck types have not shown their potential yet and not all cards have been run, I don't think Upheaval has been cast yet...but a foil one did show up at my house on Saturday. Once everything is in order and I have a viable device to take pictures with I will upload some photos.
I am just not the mostly likely to draft a heavy white deck. I remember the decks I win with and the decks I lose to, anything I stomp I tend to forget. I usually do really well and don't naturally draft the deck, who knows it may be insane. Compared to most cubes of similar size I do run a comparible white aggro section.
I used to be a big 5-color (or 250) player and maintained an active online presence on those forums as well. I also wrote a few tournament reports for their site but they have been since lost due to the difficulties the format eventually experienced in being overtaken by EDH.

Chimaera's 540 Card Depowered Cube
How do you find Arrogant Bloodlord. I have been looking for more solid black 3 drops.
In Progress
GBIshkanah, Grafwidow ~ BWGRTymna the Weaver & Tana, the Bloodsower ~ UGRashmi, Eternities Crafter ~ RGAtarka, World Render
Chimaera's 540 Card Depowered Cube
Chimaera's 540 Card Depowered Cube
I wouldn't mind seeing bad versions of cards to help allow for drafting of archetypes. I'll draft bad reanimation spells as an example if that's the deck I'm trying to play.... That or shrink it down a smidge. Either way it is easily the best 1v1 cube we have right now.
-----The Legacy Flowchart-----
Tiny Leaders Overlord
Cube CMC adjusted as per suggestion from eidolon
Chimaera's 540 Card Depowered Cube
Chimaera's 540 Card Depowered Cube
And I definitely prefer Albino Troll to Pelakka Wurm or Gaea's Revenge.

I commented in wtwlf123's thread that I am running Consecrated Sphinx over Keiga, the Tide Star, just reiterating it here not to derail his thread. For a while I was running only Frost Titan and Sphinx of Jwar Isle, but cut Coralhelm Commander due to his lackluster performance for the new Consecrated Sphinx.
Green Sun's Zenith has not shown up yet, I hope it does well I have a foil jap one...seems to fit into the Natural Order Rofellos deck.
Chimaera's 540 Card Depowered Cube
That's really good.

i would not include it in a very aggressive deck, but basically all midrange and all control decks want this card. it's absurd and shouldn't rot in sideboards. unless every white deck your group builds is a white weenie deck that wins by turn 5 or earlier, catastrophe should be in your cube.
-White Sun's Zenith + Hokori, Dust Drinker
Chimaera's 540 Card Depowered Cube
i haven't found white wraths to be a problem for aggro. aggro shouldn't auto-lose "with very little interaction" because of some 5 and 6cc sorceries... what are your aggro decks doing turns 1-4? plus it's one of white's strengths, so i feel like it's kind of weird to exclude some of these cards. although i don't run parallax wave, and what do you mean by "the normal ones"?
fireslinger comes down a turn earlier (deals the damage on the same turn) and can block and kill x/2s. the self harm is usually not an issue. i think it's the better card, personally. not everyone will agree.

Chimaera's 540 Card Depowered Cube
did you have more wraths in your cube and you had to cut them because aggro wasn't coming together? or is this just speculation on your part?
if you cut a control card (sunblast angel, for example, or condemn) i don't think it would shift the balance at all. believe me, catastrophe isn't ruining aggro over here or in other cubes that run it. if adding one of the best cards in white to your cube ruins aggro, then make aggro better until you can run it comfortably.
sorry if i'm beating a dead horse, here.
- Wall of Reverence + Soltari Trooper
Cut generic Wall for another evasion guy. This one I don't like as some of the other options but gets the nod over other potential candidates at this time due to the 1W mana cost. I have seen the 2/1 Pegasus's in more decks than the WW creatures for that mana cost reason alone. That and white based aggro is not drafted like ever, may be that its a bad archetype.
- Decree of Pain + Reassembling Skeleton
Decree did some work, it tends to start out in sideboards which is the main reason. It instant speed cantrip Infest is of course why it is played and I did see it hardcast once...but it was Force Spiked. With Damnation and the new full art Black Sun's Zenith, in addition to all the terror and barter effects it just was not needed. I dint like many of the options for black at the moment and I don't see it as an aggro color so this dude gets the nod. He has the potential to end up in quite a few decktypes, albeit as a 20-23rd card.
- Goblin Wardriver + Cunning Sparkmage
The Wardriver did not drive any war's, it mostly was a bear, a hard to cast bear. People tend to really enjoy the Basilisk Collar / pinger aspect so I am pushing that with the addition of another pinger. Plus it helps give red the ability to kill small guys for free or large guys with 1 burn spell.
- Lead the Stampede + Nantuko Vigilante
Yes I want to try Albino Troll out in this spot. I was unable to secure the foil one on Tuesday. Green also probably has too much artifact destruction at the moment, but I had to get this card out as it did nothing. Added in the foil Nantuko until I can get that troll for a spin, maybe can get the foil one before we cube on Friday if the guy who owns it shows up. Its only like a 3 dollar card foil...
- Watchwolf + Mirari's Wake
Watchwolf was never really a problem, but he is just another dude. Decided to branch out a bit and give the wake a go. It may help spawn more various deck types, and run in more decks overall. It helps to have badass foils just sitting around in by binders.
- Rhox War Monk + Murmuring Bosk
- Contested Warzone + Precursor Golem
I think I got two damage out of the warzone once, that is pretty much it. Its not a terrible card but its far to narrow in what it does to warrant a slot. Wasn't too sure what to add at this time. I played against the golem in standard recently and was kind of annoyed at how he took over the game if he wasn't answered (I never had an answer...can't always run good). But it was enough to add him over something like Juggernaut or another narrow card like Signal Pest. I do not think Disk is necessary atm.
Chimaera's 540 Card Depowered Cube
white based aggro is an all star here and elsewhere. i don't understand why your group would struggle to find success with it.
This. It's the second most aggressive color in cube.

If you open a pack with 5 average 3 drops from each color for example, which one would you prefer to open with?
1 Mirran Crusader
2 Calcite Snapper
3 Boneshredder
4 Fire Imp
5 Troll Ascetic
Now obviously there are no 5 card packs and its hard to craft a balanced example, but color preference plays a heavy roll in these types of picks. I would probably go Imp, Shredder or Snapper then Crusader or Ascetic just based on my play style alone. Green's 3 drops don't exactly define the color. U/B control is easily my most commonly drafted archetype, usually involving some ninjas. I can easily be swayed on any given day depending on what type of deck I feel like drafting but unless you are packing Armageddon and Balance, playing white just means playing fair, don't kill my stuff bro.
Chimaera's 540 Card Depowered Cube
that's weird, people like to build fun decks that do awesome things around here, too. and we build a lot of white aggro, which is a fun deck that does awesome things.
this is a pretty misleading comparison. goblin guide is the best one drop ever, but in every other case white wins the efficient creature battle. its one and two drops tend to be notably better than red's. red brings some excellent aggro cards to the table, especially in the reach and mana denial departments (which are arguably more important than the dudes). but i'd pick savannah lions over jackal pup any day, for example.
Those are all fine 3 drops, but I think that Mirran Crusader or the Ascetic are the best ones, and as much as I love Calcite Snapper and Bone Shredder, they're the ones at the bottom.
My Cube Blog @theCubeMiser on Twitter
