MTG Salvation

So here it is, my Sappling deck was my first success, and my longest running deck. It, along with my Teysa, Orzhov Scion deck, is what happened after my failed attempt at Teneb, the Harvester. The deck has gone through many changes in the past two years, but has been one of my two constant generals.

The deck's main theme, if I had to give it one, would be graveyard recursion of creatures along with an indestructible general that can give card advantage.


Input is greatly appreciated.
Please feel free to make any suggestions you think are worth making.
One last note, this is my actual deck (though I also play it on MWS), so all cards listed or to be added are cards I do/will own.

I notice that you have a lot of reanimate effects here for both yourself and your opponents. Coffin Queen is a cutie I'd never heard of. I would think you'd like to play more wrath effects to take advantage of those? I see Decree of Pain and Damnation already but your deck seems like it would like more. At the same time, the first three alternative sweepers I came up with (Mutilate, All is Dust, Black Sun's Zenith) all get around your general's indestructibility, so I'm out of ideas there I guess that explains Avatar of Woe and friends.

Surely you've heard of the Sapling/Worldslayer combo? Just checking. It's not my style either but you can't deny it works...

Kuro, Pitlord I feel is a little too expensive. For 9 mana, I feel like you ought to win the game on the spot. A Tooth and Nail in its place would probably be a lot better. If you don't have a specific combo in mind like say AoZ/Sadistic Hypnotist (not saying that one is right for you anyway), just grabbing P. Tizzle and Terastodon is pretty ridiculous.

Mutilate was originally in the deck, but never came out enough/at the right time to really wow me. I own the worldslayer, just for this deck, but I never used it and now have it in the old trade binder. Tooth and Nail are actually in the mail, ordered it last night finally...unless they were out of it, in which case I didn't order it lol.

Pitlord always comes in handy, and is never a 9 drop, in most cases he clears my opponents board, or at least gets rid of everything I'm having problems with.

On a different note, your Tibor and Lumia deck was exactly what I needed to see before revamping my own. Hate seeing all the chaos decks, and I got a huge grin when seeing it in your sig, so thanks for the help on my unposed Tirbor deck.

Pretty much everything Wildfire said deserves a spot in the deck. Dang those are good suggestions.

Oh, and thanks for the T+L comment- glad I could help. I really enjoy the deck. It upsets me that I don't have as much time to play EDH in general as I would like to. Lately I have been living vicariously though the members of this forum

I'll have to look and see how many/where my O-stones and disks are, if it turns out I have some free what would you suggest I take out for either/both of them?

I don't like Engulfing Slagworm as a beater because he doesn't have any evasion, so he could go. Also probably Visara could go, since you'll be less likely to have creatures like her sticking around longer when you run more wraths. Or Gleancrawler could get cut- he really is at his best when you're abusing sac effects like Savra would. For you, he seems like a 6/6 trampler that once in a while will get you a card back. I'd almost never play him over Vigor anyway. (BTW- Vigor + Woodfall Primus = total beating).

I still don't like the :symb::symb::symb::symb: upkeep on Kuro keeping you off your black mana as long as he's out. I'd cut him first but then again you know where I am on that one.

Oh a couple more more things: Restock is probably better than Regrowth (and Yawgmoth's Will is better than both). I'd at least consider a switch there. Also, Oran-Rief, the Vastwood is a total house with Woodfall Primus if you can handle another CIPT land.

Living death might be good with survival of the fittest

i would suggest putting in more creature cards so your general is more relevant.

i would take out nights whisper and sign in blood. think about it. if you hit them with your general instead of a creature its kinda miserable. run graveborn muse.

moonlight bargain(i think id just run harmonize or momentous fall)
putrefy(run creatures that act as removal. shriekmaw/fleshbag marauder are some good choices)
pattern of rebirth(dont you have enough tutors to not need a slow one?)
sword of kaldra

maybe take out some of the one time reanimation effects for consistent ones like oversold cemetary
phyrexian reclamation
grim harvest

maybe put in loxodon warhammer to put on your general to mitigate the various life loss effects you have

You can put Sanguine Bond in it, work quite well with Sapling...

Thanks for all the ideas, have to agree with just about all the cuts. Better chances for the general to be useful means I don't need all the cheap card draw, Momentous Fall gives draw and life gain, more creatures for the general that also work for draw/graveyard...all awesome, my favorite suggestion (though untested) is Sanguine Bond, this just sounds like it could be stupid good in this deck.

Not 100% sold on the disk with all the tasty things of mine it would kill...but I would like some more wrath effects in the deck.

Sanguine Bond sounded like so much fun...but like the old saying goes, sounds can be deceiving...lol

Nevinyrral's Disk left for Forced March because it takes a turn to work, and fit better in my Kiki-Jiki deck. Also hit too many of my useful enchantments and artifacts.
