Sheoldred's request and thinly veiled threats echoed like thunder in my ears, even though she spoke in whispers and I had to lean in closer than was comfortable to hear these dreaded words. I knew this day would come – The Whispering One's knowledge of the goings-on inside and outside her domain is vast. I was foolish to believe I could escape her notice for long.
The Night-Learners practically dragged me to her throne room, past every other fool lined up for an audience. Sheoldred smiled a wicked, jagged smile as I approached, and she dismissed everyone who'd gathered to see her.
When only she and I remained, she whispered, "Hello, little Mirran spy."
I froze. My mouth grew suddenly dry and I could hear the blood pounding in my ears. I didn't expect her to be so blunt. I could only nod in reply.
"Yes, I know what you are. After all, I know everything. I have a task for you. I want you kill Karn."
"Who?" I tried to say, but my voice cracked. I swallowed and tried again. "Who is Karn?"
"Karn is the usurper pretending to be the Father of Machines. He is mad and delusional and weak, and I need him to die so that I can take his place." Again, her bluntness shocked me into silence. "Of course, if you choose to deny this request, I may find myself burdened with one less secret." She smiled that jagged smile again. "My servants will show you the way."
Two Night-Learners dragged me out of the audience chamber. As soon as we crossed the chamber's threshold, the masses waiting outside once again filed back in, silent as death. Then we stopped and one of the Night-Learners pointed to a citadel off in the distance, then shoved me in its direction. I'll never make it home now, I thought.
Wow. She is indeed cool. I love her, and would like to have her card...
So many legends... Anyone want to bet the next block is a legends-matter block?
Because the block after Shards was a legends-matter block? (Shards had a legend cycle too)
A set can have a cycle of legends, it usually doesn't mean anything.

So this guy's telling you that his family is going to be tossed out on the street penniless and starving and his dog is going to be kicked repeatedly if you don't give him a positive feedback...and he still won't honor the original deal?
Has anyone else noticed how unmechanical the praetors appear to be? Vorinclex had hair (fur I guess), appeared to be armored in bone plate, and had very visible biological aspects. Sheoldred's lower half looks very biological. Compare these to cards like Phyrexian Rebirth or Phyrexian Rager, or even older cards like Tsabo Tsavoc and Phyrexian Plaguelord. Did the art department decide to move away from the bio-mechanical asthetic for the praetors? Anyone from Storyline want to fill us in on this, I thought they were all about purging away useless flesh, etc.
Lol, she's not creepy enough to be a Phyrexian. Yes, having a spider mouth monster body instead of legs isn't creepy enough for Phyrexia. She's also symmetrical, and her upper body is fairly normal looking. She's weird looking, yes, but not nearly gross or creepy enough for a Phyrexian. Maybe if more of Phyrexia was less disgusting, I could stand them more. She looks like she could pass as a fantasy monster, rather than some weird cyborg abomination.
BTW, am I the only one who thinks she looks like Omega Weapon from Final Fantasy VIII?
Maybe that's what is bothering me. I always thought that FFVIII's Weapons, albeit a bit weird looking, came out rather cool looking, very interesting designs.
I hate seeing a concept like that wasted on Phyrexia.

Agreed. I like the art, but it doesn't feel particularly Phyrexian. More like some random, high-level D&D monster.
I suppose they're prepping these Praetor characters to appear outside of artifact-heavy blocks, but come on... it's Phyrexia! That's just a prerequisite.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned how similar she looks to Memnarch, especially with her back legs looming in the background.
And I like the fact that the Praetors are less mechanized than expected; it helps to separate them from the common Phyrexian riffraff and helps to outline their independence.
Yup, great art and all and sure she resebles Tsabo but she really doesn't look phyrexian. I'd think that the top badass dudes of phyrexia would be nearly all machine. That doesn't appear to be the case. What's up with that?

Dwarves and gnomes should take the cool goblin jobs. Goblins have been getting too much love!

So, the black praetor arrives.
Reminds me of Class of Nuke'em High 2.
On second thought, i like it.
Damn i love that movie..

And from the flavor here and from Urabrask's revelation then perhaps those two will usurp the throne? After this poor spy dude gets liquefied.

I'm confused.
There's nothing stopping a solid ton of phyrexian bamf-ness from whispering while she's moving around.
Urabrask's art is still my favorite, but this one definitely owns the green one's.

Ruby Weapon on VII was soooooooooooo difficult, I hope she doesn't prove the same.
On topic! I'm really amped to see the red praetor's card. I need more anti-control ammo.

Oh please, she's clearly riding a giant headcrab [/pcgamingsnob]
In all seriousness, that art, character design, and attention to detail is fantastic. [edit] It does look like Memnarch. Is she the "Many Legged One"?
Probably not...
