Now recruiting for the Princes of Pauper. We are a rag-tag group of impoverished plainswalkers, weak and impecunious. We are only able to cast the most feeble of spells. But we have a darn good time doing it! What we lack in spellcraft, we more than make up in plucky wit and rougish good looks.
What is Pauper Magic?
Don't be fooled! There are two variant formats of Magic play that start with 'P.' Here, we're mainly concerned with PAUPER, which is ALL COMMONS, ALL THE TIME.
PAUPER: All commons, NO UNCOMMONS, NO RARES.
Peasant: All commons, 5 uncommons allowed.
From the article "Poor IntoTheAether" by Jay Moldenhauer-Salazar:
"In Pauper Magic, you can build any sixty-card deck you want... provided you only use commons. For Magic Online, the accepted rules of Pauper are that all commons are legal (except, sometimes, Cranial Plating). Uncommons that have online common equivalents, like the Circles of Protection, Chromatic Sphere, and Stream of Life, are legal. Uncommons that have common equivalents before Invasion, however, are illegal."
If a card has ever been printed as a common, it is legal for Paper Pauper Magic. The only exceptions are as follows:
Name: Ben MTGO/MWS: Grozathia AIM: flippinninja2k2 Location: Kalamazoo, MI, USA Currently playing/working on: Eminent Domain (T2), Magnivore (T2), Tron (T2), R Goblins (PDC)
03. EEGAG*, Father of the Forgotten, Representative
Name: Greg MTGO: eegag AIM/MWS: synkrotone Location: Franklin, IN, USA Currently playing: B SuiBlack (Pauper), :symrw::symwu: American Fish (Ravnica Block Pauper), Wildfire (Standard), Rock[et Baby Dolls] (Standard), U MUC (Extended)
04. MASTERBEEBLE*, Duke of the Downtrodden, Contest Coordinator
Name: Justin MTGO: Soon! AIM/MWS: Veserius Location: Long Beach, CA, USA Currently playing/working on: :symu::symg::symb: Critical Mass(T2), Aggro-control(T2), :symru::symbu: Magemarks(RBP), :symrw:Fling(pauper)
B SuiBlack (Pauper), :symur::symrw: American Fish (Ravnica Block Pauper), Wildfire (Standard), Rock[et Baby Dolls] (Standard), U MUC (Extended)
I see that you've already added my MTGO handle, which is eegag. Also, here are the links to posts containing my current deck lists: American Fish and Wildfire.
Clan business:
1) Everybody check in and post all your updated spoiler info, including AIM handle and MTGO name, if you have MTGO. Since we're making the jump to MTGO-centric, we need to know who has it and who doesn't.
2) Update the links in your sig, your banner links, or whatever to direct to the new thread. (This URL.)
3) If you have Pauper decklists, post them all in one place... that way, you'll each have an "official" post of decklists that I can link to from a master location. (This is especially important for people with multiple lists, like our resident genius Alfred.)
4) Be on MTGO at the same time as akmage so he can induct you into our MTGO clan, "Disciples of the Common Way."
Checking in and I have good news, I'll be getting better internet this month, so I should be able to get MTGO by the end of it.

Should the deck list post be in here or should I just throw it up in testing grounds, then link it?
Muchas gracias Polyjak I'm diggin' the banner and I'm diggin' the new thread.
My aim handle is fuegador, though I don't use it much. Chatting on mtgo is fine for me, but i'll try to familiarize myself with aim again, it's been years.
It's about time I post decklists so I'll get on that soon.
I'll be online at mtgo mid-day friday as i've said before and try and find everyone throughout the day.
By the way the mtgo clan name just came to me so I'm not opposed to starting a new one and bagging this one if anyone has a cooler name. It's as easy as 1,2,3.
Oviously I didn't do the banner right, I'm so ignorant...what did i do wrong.
Never mind...all is well...
The MTGO clan name is just fine, it's pretty awesome to have everyone contained in one little chat window on there. It's perfect.
For the sig, you have to use SIMG tags instead of IMG... some thing, but add an S to it.
Veserius,
Anywhere you want to post it is fine... in here works. You don't need to go to testing grounds. Also, did you want a Princes of Pauper banner?
Thanks again for everything Polyjak, that crash course in URL editing helped tremendously. All onliners look me up friday noonish East Coast time and I'll try to be there baring any unforeseen events (I may have to work).
If that doesn't work for some reason though (I know nothing about banner making) I'll come up with something else.
I think those will look swell together. They're popular cards; Eegag's deck and my deck are looking to use a lot of those same ones. But since we already have banners, they're yours for the taking!
I think Drake Familiar might be the hardest one to work in, but I'll definitely give it the old college try. At any rate, I expect it to look quite snazzy when it's done, rest assured.
Want me to work your user name and clan title into it, or just stick with the tried and true "The Princes of Pauper" ?

The tried and true will work, I've never been a big fan of text heavy banners, they seem to draw away from the art, or maybe thats just me?

Whats kinda funny is that the drake is the exact reason I thought there might be a problem. His art looked kinda funky to me with the backround color. If you can't work him in easily don't worry about it. Thanks in advance for the banner Jak you do good work
As you may have noticed, I seriously screwed up the intro post. It's going to be a real nightmare to fix it, so I hope we can live with it for the time being. (I'd deal with it now but I have to work tomorrow morning.)
For now, focus on getting everyone into the MTGO clan. (Those of you who don't have MTGO, we can still play MWS with you... just let us know when and where.)
Just recognized the synergy between Drake Familiar and Galvanic Arc. Maybe there is some potential for an Izzet style or at least a counter burn pauper deck in block. Good stuff.
I added Grozathia, up to 4 now, need to find MasterBeeble still.
I figured it had been built, just didn't know if it was effective or not. I just put together a Rav block deck that is kind of fun. I played it only once and it was against what looked like a boros precon and crushed him. The guy didn't read my pauper only comment. It's online, hence no guildpact (yet), here it is:

Wow, that looks quite similar to American Fish, only I have included some spells and creatures from Guildpact in my test version. The only real strategic difference is the inclusion of Drift of Phantasms in your deck, which takes away from the complete aggro feel in favor of some strong defense. You'll definitely have to report how your testing goes.
I'll be drafting GP in a couple of hours, so I'll report back here to let everyone know how that went!
Yes, i notice the similarity (i'm always a little behind the curve as i've got so much going on). I'm looking forward to guildpact online, as is everyone, and it won't be long.
I thought the drifts would be solid defense in a pretty much aggro field.
Got the main page looking good. Only took me about two hours to do it, too. But I backed it all up so it should never "crash" again.
Tell me what you guys think of the formatting and so forth. It's probably the nicest, most comprehensive clan page on this forum, if I do say so myself. But that doesn't mean it can't get better... so if you see anything that should be changed or could be better, feel free to let me know. I implore you.
Notice, also, that I linked Alfred's decklists in the Library. These are some of the decks to beat in the format, though I'm not sure they're entirely possible on MTGO. We'll have to investigate. We can always make them MTGO-friendly...
There's still a few members who haven't checked in yet, so please post something (ANYTHING) if you're coming by here and poking in. If you want your personal spoiler information updated, post it here.
If you want a clan banner, tell me what cards (4 or 5) you want it to include.
Any day now, the 1st clan contest of 2006 will be announced, and combined with the new MTGO clan and getting everything rolling on there, we'll be pretty busy. Not to mention enjoying the new set that came out today.
If anyone is interested in Rainbow stairwell pauper, I enjoy the potential of this format. It generates long games and plenty of interaction. I haven't found too many opponents online and I'd like to try it more often.

Yeah, I am not entirely familiar with the rainbow stairwell format, though I have heard of it.
I have some more good news about MTGO. It seems that, from time to time, I can actually log on from my room on campus. I've already done a lot of trading, gathering the staples and such, but it's pretty difficult to get some cards (Mana Leak, Jack and I haven't even seen one yet :tongue3:). I have a fun little blue deck built right now, but any seriously competitive Pauper deck would probably crush it at the moment. Hopefully, through testing, I can make it better.
Pauper on MTGO is amazing. It's so cheap and easy to build an awesome collection of cards and make wacky decks to your heart's content. Once I've exhausted my creativity, I (or we) can turn to Alfred's decklists and try to make them MTGO-friendly, test with and against them, and try to hose them majorly.
I can't wait till we get everybody in the clan on MTGO in the Disciples. It's going to be jolly good times.
i've been trying to download MTGO, but for some reason it freezes like about halfway there. also, it takes exremely long to download it, and my computer is pretty fast. am i doing something wrong?

Ok I left one of my decks at a friends house, but I'll get it tommorow so I can have my lists up then.
The banner I think should reflect the deck I'm playing the most, I'd like Steamcore Weird, Peel from Reality,
Infiltrator's Magemark, Drake Familiar, and possibly Drift of Phantasms. I don't have any other specifics.
If that doesn't work for some reason though (I know nothing about banner making) I'll come up with something else.

4 drake familiar
4 drift of phantasms
4 faith's fetters
4 galvanic arc
4 peel from reality
3 skyknight legionnaire
