I am not sure where to post this but I am looking for some advice on how to get MTGO to play on my mac. I went to the WotC but it doesn't seem like that thread is very active.
Here are my computer specs
I have a Mac Book Pro
Here aer some of my specs
Mac OSX v 10.6.7
2.4 ghz intell core 2 duo
4gb 1067 Mhz DDr3
I was also told I could install something called parallels I see the latest version is 6.0 but I found v5 for $50 cheaper. Would that work also? Thanks
If you use Parallels or the other software (like VMware Fusion) you still need to have a copy of Windows (XP or 7 probably being preferred, I'm not sure).
Or maybe just use Boot Camp, that should work too.

I am not a particularly savvy computer user. what is Boot Camp? How do I use that.

I have a Macbook Air with Parallels 5 installed. On Parallels, I have Windows XP, and on that I have MTGO.
Bootcamp lets you install windows on your mac and boot up into it. Parallels is nice because it's just an icon on your HUD that you can click on to open next to OSX. Then you can flip back between Parallels and your regular programs with Command-Tab.
hmm Parallels seems good..... IS their any CHANCE of getting any kind of virus... I currently dont have an anti virus program installed on my macbook....
I am using an iMac for MTGO. I use parallels with windows XP. To be legit, yes you have to pay for parallels AND a copy of windows. Now, if you were the sort of unscrupulous individual that could get a hold of these things some other way, well that works too. Not that I endorse that or anything *ahem* I'd go with windows xp since its not as much of a resource hog as vista/7. This matters because if you're running both OS's at the same time it can bog your computer down.
Macbook Pro here. I use VMWare Fusion with Windows XP.
Not sure if this is still a problem, but when I first updated MTGO (under 2 months ago) I had problems getting it to start, .Net file issues. Here is a quick link to the fix on Wizards site if any of you need it.

I'll have to disagree with that statement. 7 with latest updates and SP1 is leaps and bounds more efficient than XP. Maybe it requires some marginal increase in resources, but on a modern system you won't notice a difference and I think the extra functionality and streamlined GUI are worth it. I've even had success installing it on 'legacy' systems running P3s and 256mb memory, regardless of what the minimum specs require.
But for the Mac user, just install some form of Windows (I suggest W7) onto your machine and dual boot:
Asking out a girl is like trying to cast a first turn Necropotence. Sometimes the other player will have the Force of Will to say no. You shouldn't let that stop you from trying it.
First link is for VirtualBox, which will allow you to create a Virtual Machine. Second is for the Windows 8 Developer Preview. I believe you could install Windows on your Mac for free with these 2 links. Just download the two, then read the VirtualBox manual for instructions.

Yeah, that seems correct.
I have used virtualbox for playing Magic Online in the past, and it worked very well. You can usually find older versions of VMware for very cheap too (and you really don't need the newest version).
One thing people didn't mention - you should look into getting a mouse than can right click. A trackpad, for example, is very difficult to play with; the apple mice can be set up to right click, but since mac programs don't usually call for it, you may need to mess with the settings.
Secondly, you might need to mess with the resolution a bit to ensure that everything makes sense on the screen -- depending on what mac you have, it might render windows a little differently, and you want to be able to read the cards to play the game properly.
Anyways, I've done this before and it works very well.
I currently use the latest version of Parallels (Desktop 7) and I don't have any issues and its quite easy to install and use. I do like the integration part of it - I can put my MTGO shortcut on my Mac desktop/launch bar and run it like it was made for a Mac - very slick.
I've managed to run MTGO on my MacBook for the last month or so.
I tried Parallels first but it did not work due to .NET compatibility and general driver issues, but took the plunge and installed Windows 7 on a second partition with BootCamp.
It was incredibly easy with the BootCamp Assistant, given the fact that 1) you don't have to erase anything on your computer if you have the space for a full installation left over and 2) you can change the size of the partition without losing anything if you need to. This also would allow me to run MWS and Apprentice if need be (I don't at the moment).
I don't have a stellar machine by any means and it runs fine, provided there aren't a million tokens in play

Setting up virtuabox is really easy and it has a nice step by step guide. Once your virtual machine is set up start it up and link to the windows ISO. Here is a short video instructions if you need it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1Hy0Efr8QY
Minor issue i ran into. Windows will automatically prompt you to install NET framework before MTGO can be run. You need to install this but I still had to install MTGO client twice before it worked.
So, I'm running on a latest gen MBP 13in with Lion OSX
The downloads & set up for both VirtualBox and Windows Developer went smoothly (Thanks for the advice on how to)
However, once I downloaded & installed the MTGO client it will now launch renamer.exe, turn the cursor into its loading style where the circle is pinwheeling around and then just disappears as if it totally forgot I'm trying to open up the program.
Suggestions? Help? Anyone? Please lol? I'm so close yet so far away...
I know this topic gets brought up a good bit, and I have read through some of the threads in my searching, but there is one idea I haven't seen anyone try in my readings.
This thread isn't for everybody with a mac because of the situation.
Has anyone tried gotomypc.com as a solution if you have a dedicated PC that could run the game? I'm in South Africa but have a desktop computer in the states that my brother could leave on for me. I'm willing to pay 9.99 a month for the next 3 months (my time left over here) to be able to play. I'm just not that familiar with gotomypc and if it would work.
there are plenty of programs you can run on your Mac to replicate a PC partition, thus making MTGO be available without a proxy computer. Although i dont know their names someone else here can certianly help you with it. (or you can google "How to install a Windows partition on my Mac")

So I know that you can't get MTGO running on a Mac but I do know you can get Windows onto your Mac. So just wondering what the best way to do this is! Thanks!
P.S. If there is a thread for this already please let me know.
What is the best way to play on a Mac? I would prefer to not have to install Windows or at least be able to switch btwn the 2 easily although the best would be be able to play MTGO on Mac with say VFusion (but if performance suffers then prob not).

But, if you only ever use the Windows part to access MTGO then I wouldn't worry. MTGO is pretty safe right?
Also do I need to buy Windows 7/XP or does it come with parallels?

You'll need two downloads:
1. Virtualbox
https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads
2. Windows 8 ISO. You'll find the download and product key here:

Probably a glitch due to having .NET files installed at the time of download rather than prior to...
Confirmation - Steps above work to get Windows running on Mac for free.
