As per the 1v1 ban list discussion, we will be having the first ever "Legacy EDH" tournament.
Question: What is "Legacy EDH?"
Answer: A potential solution for the myriad of attempts to balance EDH for a competitive 1v1 environment.
Specific pieces of information:
New Phyrexia will be legal.
* Starting Life Totals = 20.
* General damage is still 21.
* Regular Magic mulligans, also called "Paris" mulligans. (random 7 -> random 6 -> random 5, etc).
* Commanders work exactly like they do in EDH. (1 general + 99 card singleton library, basic lands may be duplicated).
If you are still confused, just think "20 life EDH duels with the Legacy banned list." It's pretty much that simple.
*~*~*~*
The following cards are banned in Legacy tournaments:
This tournament will be very similar to the most recent one (link here), with the exception of Cockatrice being the default program. I will update with slightly more information at a later time.
* If you would like to host the tournament (and have more experience than myself), please let me know as I am a bit bogged down schedule-wise but have no qualms about making time to do this.
I will be asking for decklists in a week or two, you have ample time to crack the code of this new exciting format.
As a connoisseur of fun, interesting matches, I still to this day have not been able to craft that "perfect deck"; the deck that I can play and have fun over time, doesn't get boring, but simultaneously is fun to play against. I honestly don't think it exists. It's like a unicorn. A ninja unicorn.
Will be interesting to watch. I don't have the time for it, but want to see if the 21 general damage rule still applies (if a deck gains life, it could happen, though unlikely).
I strongly believe that eliminating the tier 1 tutors and the broken "build around me" cards will weaken combo and give aggro a fighting chance, and 30 life seems to be the correct amount to keep with the unique flavor of EDH. General damage is definitely a possibility with a different ban list, and shouldn't be eliminated entirely. Thrun says hi.
Is it very strong? Yes.
Are there ways to deal with it? Yes.
Is it completely format warping? We don't know.
If you want to prove that Karakas is stupid and that porting the Legacy ban list 100% for 1v1 won't work, I encourage you to build a deck that abuses Karakas, win the tournament with it, and then express your concern about the card.

Yeah, no Falling Star does suck. I am curious what decks will come out of this. I suspect, Zur, Arcum, Sisay, and Vig, will all make strong showings.
Rappin', snappin', cappin'.
Yeah.
Draft my Mono-Blue Cube!

'fraid I can't participate though. My schedules are a tad packed these days with both work and exams
Oh, and mulligan rule?

Starting life total is 20.
Mulligans will be regular Paris mulligans. (random 7 -> random 6 -> random 5, etc).
These two points are more similar to Legacy than actual EDH, but these will serve best as being like regular magic, especially to newcomers.
Generals work the same way as in EDH.
Thanks for the questions, I'll update the original post.

I would say red in general gets better with only 20 life each..
And if so, I'm all in with JANKY MACKENZIE!

I'd be for some kind of higher life total, yeah.

I can't wait to try this out.
EDH Aggro ftw!
Life totals are staying at 20 -- if aggro does very well, perhaps Vendilion Clique can be unbanned -- which is a big step forward.
It's legal.
