This summer, a sequel to Stainless Games' popular Magic: The Gathering game, Duels of the Planeswalkers, will launch on Xbox 360, PS3 and the PC. Joystiq has secured details on the first deck in Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012, Kiora Atua's combination blue and green deck.
Kiora Atua is a "female merfolk who commands the powers of the tides and depths." She sways dominion over the older creatures of the sea -- such as krakens and leviathans. Hit the jump for the full deck list.
This is pretty sweet. The deck is pretty cool and flavorful, although the Polymorphs don't really fit (for function or for flavor). I really liked DOTP 1 as it's what got me back into magic, so I'll definitely be picking this up.
I only hope they fixed how you tap your lands in this game... it tapped your lands automatically when you cast a spell in the last game, so sometimes it would tap you out of certain colors you wanted to hold up.
Yep, bet me to it. So far all opponents in DotP have been planeswalkers that have appeared in card form; this implies Kiora is a new, forthcoming card herself? Possibly with Merfolk tribal leanings like Nissa?
I'm surprised there hasn't been a merfolk planeswalker yet, actually. Or a goblin one, now that I think about it...How did we get vampire before either of those?!
Though, of course, she isn't confirmed for planeswalker yet.
EDIT: Niv-Mizzet and Rhys weren't planeswalkers, so not all DotP opponents are planeswalkers.
My favorite part about this is the Hokusai-esque waves on the art of Kiora, haha. I'm wondering where merfolk actually fit in the next set, if she's supposed to be a part of it.
I don't think everyone should get there hopes up about her being a planeswalker and not just being a new legend.
That being said that's an interesting deck they have going. UG Ramp isn't a normal archetype so I'm looking forward to neat creations in this new game. Seems like they could put the Leviathan Quest as one of the cards you can win to put in this deck.
I've always wanted to build a deck around Quest for Ula's Temple, but it's not very viable I'm totally expecting it to be in the unlockables for this deck and that makes me impossibly excited.
If she is a planeswalker, the next set may very well not have a merfolk tribe. Bear in mind that walkers are often from different planes than where they are in the sets. Gideon is not from Zendikar. Jace, Chandra, Garruk, and Lilliana are from parts unknown. Sarkhan is not from alara, etc.
I recall reading that they didn't want to have other super/subtypes on Planeswalkers, mostly because it wouldn't fit on the type line. Which is why Karn isn't "Artifact Planeswalker - Karn" and Nissa isn't "Tribal Planeswalker - Elf Nissa".

I think he meant a planeswalker focused towards a specific tribe, not a Tribal Planeswalker.
I am starting to get excited for this. I got a reasonable amount of enjoyment out of the first game, and as long as they fix the mana tapping issue it should be fine.

...that picture's pretty unfortunate.
Akuma will wreck you.
Plus all her lore is about krakens it would seem.

I know that DotP and M12 are only slightly similar, but would this not be an awesome card for a core set, and to have in standard?

Like Nissa Revane. Tribal Planeswalkers are a bit narrow of what decks they can go into.
And hey, free Titan.

The posted artwork in the OP looks more like a Legend than a Planeswalker, which have a portrait view.
