The General Kaalia is a very straightforward general, but that doesn't make her any less fun then she is. For the mere cost of attacking you get to drop a free angel, demon or dragon, arguably three of the most fun creature types around, and the three iconic fatties of WBR. To boot, she's also a four mana flier, making her easy to cast and evasive. In fact I'd say her only downside is that she's a 2/2, but with an ability like that, she's about as aggressively costed as it gets. Be warned though, her ability and fragility paints a target on her head fast. Outfit her with some nice protective equipment and creatures that can reliably keep her on the board, lest you start paying 10+ mana for her. At that rate, you're better off hardcasting her summons.
Creature Choices Creatures with Kaalia are laid out plainly, and that makes her an easy build around general, but you do have things to consider when tackling the creature base. You've got some great board control creatures with your angels, as well as monstrous protection. And if you're feeling really evil, Iona is the end all to some decks. Blinding Angel and Angelic Arbiter are solid force locks that really mess with people's strategies, while Adarkar Valkyrie and Deathless Angel protect Kaalia and the other summons. On the demon side you have to be considerate of what choices to use, if any at all. Many of MTG's demons have quite the backlash if you let them sit for too long, so try to pick the few that don't, you'll find those to be quite the powerhouses. Dragons are straightforward. You want the dragons that have an immediate impact. Dragons that come down dealing heavy damage even without their attacks. The rest? Fill it out with your personal favorites of the tribes, fun is always a factor, and playing your favorite creatures for free is most definitely fun.
One of her greatest factors is that "When ~ attacks" abilities do not trigger. This makes cards such as Rakdos the Defiler a wonderful choice, as he can make your opponent sac their permanents without you doing so as well. In fact, we'll use him as an example for ways to abuse your creatures. After that initial attack though, you need to think, what are you going to do with Rakdos? Well there are a number of ways, the easist being leave him as a fat blocker, as he does sport a great defense. The other would be to sac him to a permanent with an ability, life gain, tokens, what not. The final way (and my favorite) is to return him to your hand. Now this doesn't just concern Rakdos, any of your creatures can benefit from this. Erratic Portal is your best friend forever here. Repeatable Hellkite, Rakdos, Guide, it all makes the game that much sweeter. Do remember that there are other cards that need to fit the deck, so don't overload on creatures.
Spells
Playing Kaalia gives you one massive advantage in the offensive and defensive department, as she is the colors of all the best removal and some of the best defense. Between summons you should be able to handle any major threat with a wide variety of kill spells, on top of nice tutors and truly aggravating defenses. Now do remember, you have limited numbers to work with, so it's key to finding that balance between offense and defense. You could go all offense and load your deck with removal, or you could go defense and make yourself untouchable while letting Kaalia and her summons do all the work, but a lot of the time, you want that balance between offense and defense. A bit more removal then defense or a bit more defense then removal is also quite nice. it allows you to focus on one strategy with a back up plan. Enchantments are your friend here. No Mercy, Uphill Battle, Ghostly Prison, all make great defensive structures for a deck such as this. If you're feeling even more defensive, no one goes wrong with Stranglehold.
Then you've got card advantage. There's not a lot of card draw in these colors, but what you get is good. Any of the black "lose life for draw" cards are pretty good, especially if you have any lifelink angels. Phyrexian Arena seems like a definite choice to go here, but there are also other means. Mikokoro is mana and free cards, as is Howling Mine and it's varients. My personal favorite however is Scroll Rack. It gives you whole new hand and provides you with previous tools that were just not working before.
I'm also thinking of making this my first paper Commander deck over my Zirilan deck. A little more money spent, but it was just that much fun, and in my favorite colors.
This deck is just awesome. Don't really know what to say beyond that, it's just pure awesome. I'd suggest Flameblast Dragon, but that's just because it's my pet card, and your deck is mana-hungry as is. Mana-Charged Dragon looks fun too, but I doubt your opponents are going to want to help you sitting across from this deck.

It's just like the story of the grasshopper and the octopus. All year long, the grasshopper kept burying acorns for the winter, while the octopus mooched off his girlfriend and watched TV. But then the winter came and the grasshopper died and the octopus ate all his acorns. And also he got a racecar. Is any of this getting through to you?
I as well love Flameblast Dragon, but I was trying to focus more on the "When it hits, ability" style dragons, then i got carried away with the more fun dragons.
I might switch something out for Mana Charged Dragon, but I'd like to test it out some first. After all, I think I'll get hated out pretty quick if I get to far.

I was looking through some cards and stumbled upon Hellkite Charger. Realizing how ridiculously ridiculous this card is/can be with Kaalia (attack w/ 7 mana open and double up on dragons), I feel it must be included for the kind of blowouts it can create.
Oh, and you might want to include some card draw and tone down a tad on the bombs (like maybe cut a couple and add a Phyrexian Arena or Ambition's Cost). The splashy creatures are good, but if you cut a few and add a few card-draw spells you'll be more consistent and have the same amount of splashy cards in your hand most of the time.

yeah, draw spells will help alot, considering you need them in your hand for Kaailia's trigger to do anything, i say throw in an Phy-Arena maybe Sign in blood, you need card draw, Molten Psyche (even without it's metalcraft) is still a huge way for handfixing, but the deck needs a draw package.

Seth, I have been considering making a Kaalia deck myself. However my concern with your above list, is a big one.
Kaalia herself has to actually ATTACK an opponent in order for you to get her effect. However you have provided as far as I can tell absolutely no means of protecting Kaalia from any form of Defenses that the opponent may have. I would at the very least include things like Mother of Runes, Brave the Elements and a few other key cards in order to protect Kaalia from blockers so that you don't constantly have to resummon her to the field at progressively higher costs.

No Dragon Mage? Come on Seth, we both know the fun that will be had when want to draw a new hand of goodies to use next turn if possible, and on top of that ruins sculpted hands that were made by your opponents. Just a thought.
I suppose I'll cover everyone in one post instead of individual quotes.
I could've sworn I left a spot for the Charger, guess I never got to him. Oh well, time to find that spot.
Arena, there's something useful that could make things more interesting. Perhaps a Sign in Blood as well. Scroll Rack seems duh obvious. That card needs to make it into my "EDH Staples" Package somehow...
Mother of Runes would be a good addition, although Kaalia can be protected by one of my three equipments.
Truth be told one of my least favorite things in magic is discard my hand to draw more. Sure sometimes it's nice, but a majority of the time it hurts more then helps. As such, Dragon Mage and the Wheels are really unfun to me personally.
I'm still new to the forums but I had some thoughts on this. Have you thought of running Twilight Shepherd? Good way to get your stuff back, especially since you are running wrath.
Blood Speaker could also work for this deck. It lets you tutor up demons without having to waste an actual tutor from your hand and you can get it back for free.

Hey Seth, where the hell is wheel of fortune? You should use it. Also, I agree that you need mom, because 3/100 isn't very likely. You could also play seizan for card draw, but you need the arena as a minimum.
Also, where is rakdos, the defiler? He enters the battlefield tapped and attacking, so his ability doesn't trigger....
EDIT: You should find room for Karmic guide too.

I opened one last year, got two crap worldwake packs and 8x scathe zombies, which I promptly hid around my sister's apartment for her roommates to find. But, yeah, it was a piece of crap.
You, sir, have just won the internet. Congratulations.

I'm not to thrilled with Twilight to be honest, I liked her back when Shadowmoor came out, but no a days she seems lackluster to me. Although seeing Sunblast Angel kill everything then Shepard hit the board never gets old.
Linvala and Blood Speaker aren't bad choices at all. I'll have to find room for them.

As explained above, I do NOT like discarding and redrawing, so the wheels are unfun to me personally. As such, I'll take losing life for extra cards.
Also, both Arena and Rakdos are in there, take a second look.
If you feel you need more protection, whispersilk cloak is always good. Also, Iona, shield of emeria is really annoying for mono colored decks, you should try it (maybe I just missed it).

Cloak would actually be quite good here considering I'd always get a foolproof attack out of it.
And I explained I didn't want to do any Iona shenanigans.
Eh, I don't have enough equips to justify adding equip based creatures, and I really don't wanna add more equips at the cost of removal or summons.
You want to run Whispersilk Cloak, right? It protects your general from targeted removal, makes her unblockable, good stuff, right. Conveniently enough, so do all the swords. Lets choose three (Sword of Fire and Ice, Sword of Light and Shadow, and Sword of Feast and Famine, which give you card drawing (Kaalia can really get behind this), recursion (Kaalia likes a full hand so...), and mana ramp (Most of the decks I'm seeing under this general have an average cmc somewhere between five and eight :o). This is four equips if you've got Whispersilk Cloak, five if we toss in Lightning Greaves which gives a creature haste and shroud for free. And six counting Sunforger which lets you play your removal spells directly from your deck. When you can tutor those up at will you don't have to devote 25% of your deck building space to answer cards that don't come with bodies attached.
i think the lack of malfegor is quite criminal. can absolutely devastate multiplayer games, and if cheated with kaalia, can make quick work of your opponents.

+ Three Swords (Feast/Famine, Fire/Ice, Light/Shadow)
+ Sunforger
I'd say there's enough redundancy in your list of demons to let you run Stonehewer + Mystic too.
The swords, while powerful, are slightly less reliable outside of a voltron or equipment based deck (in my opinion). I'm not planning on winning every game with a super buffed Kaalia, so I'm not to concerned with buffing her power and toughness. Protection is awesome, yes, but I can reliably protect Kaalia with the other equips in the deck. Admittedly, the sword abilities are nice, but I feel like I can do fine without, the base protection and removal strategy has worked fine thus far.
I will admit however, 9/13 of my removal spells incorporate white and red, so perhaps a Sunforger and perhaps a Stoneforge Mystic would be nice. I'll test it out some changes in a bit.
i think the lack of malfegor is quite criminal. can absolutely devastate multiplayer games, and if cheated with kaalia, can make quick work of your opponents.
In the test games with Malfegor, he was lackluster to be honest, I always had one or two cards in hand or there were never enough creatures to justify him coming down. I ended up not bothering with an actual deck change and just tucked the other demon back in.
Hall of the Bandit Lord would actually be a lot of fun with Kaalia, I'll have to see how it works out.
This might be a no no in your playgroup, but Kaalia works well with mass land destruction, since you can continue to drop fatties for free, while your opponent(s) just....observe.
Here's an example of what I'm thinking of playing:
The deck looks good, but I'm honestly just not a fan of LD in general. I've been removing the Wastelands and Strip Mines from my EDH decks as of late just because there are better choices.
And yeah, Swiftfoot Boots is pretty nice. I'm not sure whether I want to replace Greaves with it or not.

I wouldn't cut Greaves at all. Making squishy Kaalia slightly less squishy is important, but I'd argue granting her haste is almost more important (since she gets to crack in right away for the free summon). I'd cut Cloak, Plate, or Helm before I cut greaves. Heck, I'd almost consider running Strider Harness (or I guess Sword of Vengeance is less janky and stuff).

As it stands, the new Boots grant Hexproof AND haste, which is quite nice... Figures, they give us Champion's Helm then they turn around and give us something slightly better. Arg, I might just stick to the current roster, as the extra +2/+2 from helm give Kaalia a bit more survivability without going overboard.
I think you have too much targeted removal, and not enough mana ramp. If kaalia is shot down (likely) she cost 6 to play again (early range of your dragons/angels/demons) and if shes shot down once more (likely) that 8 mana. From what I see your really focused on dropping her and protecting her, but I think she'll still likely hit the bucket in response to the equipt. Personally I focus on recursion as well as protecting her as a plan b "I'll equip Darksteel to her...Oh you kill her? I'll just bring her back then."
Eh, I don't have enough equips to justify adding equip based creatures, and I really don't wanna add more equips at the cost of removal or summons.
Well, I actually only run one equip in the deck, the package is just designed to tutor it. Sunforger. With a strong sunforger package, which this deck already has without trying, the deck gains a crapload of versatility.
Looking down an army bigger than yours? tutor ghostway, play day of judgement.
Having spells countered? tutor reiterate, buyback, problem solved. (also replicates your future wrecking ball, incendiary command, tutors etc.)
Sunforger gives you an answer to almost every problem. Play it.
Edit: I run 2 equips, sunforger and lightning greaves. (haste is beast with kaalia)

U Azami, Lady of Scrolls
UGR Animar, Soul of Elements
BU Grimgrin, Corpse-Born
WUG
Jenara, Asura of WarBR
Wort, Boggart AuntieAlso, where is rakdos, the defiler? He enters the battlefield tapped and attacking, so his ability doesn't trigger....
EDIT: You should find room for Karmic guide too.
Host of the July CCL '10, Host of the March CCL '11
All three of these are solid choices. I must have missed the guide, her echo not triggering is rather nice.
- Darksteel Plate
- Champion's Helm
- Consuming Vapors
- Path to Exile
+ Three Swords (Feast/Famine, Fire/Ice, Light/Shadow)
+ Sunforger
I'd say there's enough redundancy in your list of demons to let you run Stonehewer + Mystic too.
Oh Rider, my heart will go on...
edit: hall of the bandit lord may very well be your best friend in this deck.

A little bit cutthroat but it's quite effective, my biggest problem is choosing which fatties are worth it and which ones aren't.
EDIT: They spoiled a new lightning greaves for m12! That's the first card going in here, that and a command tower

I really have to second this. I think the best thing in edh is tutors. so even a chain of tutoring (stoneforge into sunforge into elightened tutor into bla, ect) is really worth it.
