i had an idea as a friend of a cardshop owner to give him a random thing for his birthday in addition to the standard 50$ debit card we always get each other.
a fabled "un-power 9" thing to go with his "power 9" on display :D. (his power 9 isnt really for sale btw, but he puts it out just to impress people :P)
the 9 worst cards in magic! :D, ill put a special price tag on it (.3500$ for the entire set! to go with his 3500$ for the entire set on the power 9 thing). I want every card to be hideously inefficient, and not useful in almost any way. Not even to be donate
must be- legacy legal. useless in almost all contexts and interactions with legacy legal cards
as some have pointed out, considering its a joke, i think being iconically bad may be more important that actually bad, unless the card is just ridiculous like rakalite :P)
so far im thinking: Rakalite- hilariously bad, IMO the worst if you actually try to use it Razor Boomerang- mirrors rakalite, and my friend and i had a good laugh when we were opening boosters and he got one (and made stupid jokes for a week) Great Wall- laughably ridiculously niche sorrow's path- its funny because you have to think about how bad it is Apocalypse Chime- "we should have used this on homelands before it shipped" Chimney Imp- Iconic Steam Flogger Boss- honestly, this isnt quite as useless as the others, but it's funny :P, the apparatus is a lie. Camel- protection from deserts makes me laugh, made him laugh, banding (the fabled ability that never went anywhere) was icing Juju Bubble- because it has a funny name
btw: these cards are not quite bad enough/ known enough (or at least round here)
aladin's lamp could be playable with march of the machines or something >:
mudhole is can be moderately useful for 42land and Aggro Land
pale moon can be used to possibly disrupt a random multicolor deck for a whole turn by some random blue control
EDIT: i have given him his gift, the list is as shown, i picked these with both consideration to all of them being aweful, and to a personal sense of humor (that is, what i thought hed find more funny).
Put it in a nice glass case sized for 9 cards, with "power nine" written in fancy script across the top, and a little .3500$ sticker including the same "not for sale"
He was extremely pleased with the "awesome card set" i got him. Its now at the front of the store with the P9 set, except he covered my .3500$ sticker with a 3500$ sticker xD. He also put up a sign next to it that says "these are way more awesomer than those"
as a person that managed to acquire a Foil Chimney Imp for their Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker EDH deck i have to say Chimney imp is far too good for an Unpower 9 list, as he is a positivly brutal lock piece with shirei and a sac outlet
I would like to nominate Apocalypse Chime as it is only effective if your opponent is playing with cards from homelands, and if that is the case you're still going to win because your opponent is playing with cards from homelands:tongue:
I'm going on record right now and stating that before the end of 2012 we will see foil dual lands in booster packs (The real, Alpha dual lands). You can quote me on that.
isnt wood elemental semi- decent? i mean, it couuuuld be a mediocre "big finisher" in mono green... cost not an issue :], well unless its crazy high like more than 10$

No. I tried. I really tried hard to make it work. Here's the list. It didn't work. The only time I ever won was when I managed to get to 11 lands before dying, and I Zenithed into Progenitus.
Aladdin's Lamp is godlike in one format but godawful in other formats. The one format it's good in is type 4 where you can cast one spell per turn and have unlimited mana so you can essentially demonic tutor each turn with the lamp.
But wood elemental deserves to be on the list. Whenever I think of really, really, REALLY terrible cards I always first think of wood elemental for being a steaming pile of crap.
Sorrow's path is likewise quite awful.
Wow, loving the ideas posted so far. I didn't know that such terrible cards existed before now like juju bubble and that 6 mana artifact that says 2: Prevent 1 damage, bounce this at the beginning of the next end step. That card is really bad lol.
Wait, did you just say grinning totem is bad? There was a time when that card was a really really good card; steal your opponents best card out of their deck and be able to use it against them? Or you can just extract your opponents tendrils. It's similar to jester's cap in this regard, which is still played in vintage.

"Yawgmoth," Freyalise whispered as she set the bomb, "now you will pay for your treachery."
Wood Elemental would be decent in a mono-green EDH deck, just because EDH games tend to go on longer and you have a chance to get a good number of lands into play. That being said, I can't imagine him ever winning a game, because mono-green is not a good base for EDH.
Wood Elemental is terrible because of the "untapped Forests" wording. You get a 1/1 for four mana and sacrificing a Forest. You get a 4/4 when you have eight lands, and four of those lands have to be Forests sacrificed. The fact that he eats removal like a boss and is horrendous card disadvantage makes him one of the most iconic bad cards, and why he is ~$3, solely for laugh factor.

Mono green EDH can be very explosive, and Wood Elemental should never go near it, I mean Ivy Elemental, Fungus Elemental, Protean Hydra, Primortial Hydra, etc etc aren't even really good enough...

6 mana to play it, then 2 for every 1 damage you want to prevent, and then you have to replay it for 6 again if you want to use it again?
5 mana and tapping a creature to do 1 damage?
I agree with OP that these are some terrible cards.
Any such collection is required by unwritten law to include Sorrow's Path.
at least when using great wall you waste only 3 mana, then forget about it

Delif's Cube. IMHO, not worth the effort.
Fasting. Forgoing a draw for 2 life? Really? If in a stalemate, sure, but, really?
Standing Stones. (Back in the day, was ok, but way too much mana fixing now. Compare this to Manalith, and there really is no comparison.
Numai Outcast. I just don't like it.
