If the DFC takes up a land slot in each booster, *and* the checklist is to be in 75% (90%) of boosters, then that's a lot of boosters to open to collect all 12 tokens.

That is not correct. The double-faced card takes the space of a common and the checklist takes the place of land (1 in every 4 boosters from the top of my head). So there is just the same amount of space for tokens as usual.
Just noticed that the Spirit tokens are white. I have been looking at Kamigawa spirits lately, and those tokens are often colorless....
The ones from Shadowmoor were white. Keep in mind Kamigawa had spirits in every color. It's likely they wanted the token to be useable by multiple cards and not have to print 5 different colored spirits.

They never printed tokens in booster packs back then. Tokens were only of promotional gain. I don't know when this changed, but it still didn't work this way after I left in Guildpact.
Checklist is in 3 of every 4 boosters. A basic land is in the 4th.
You are correc that the DFC takes the spot of a common.
For some reason, I can't connect to the Wizards site in any capacity, but I was almost positive that the checklists are 1:4 packs at the basic land slot.

Just think what that would have been like for people that didn't use cards for tokens. "Okay, so the pennies are green Spirits, the dice are black ones, and that quarter is a blue one? Or were the pennies black and the dice green?"
How can WOTC still tell us that this is not a tribal set with that many different tokens. I wonder how many Lorwyn had.
The greater the number of different tokens would mean not a tribal block. A true tribal block would have 5 (6 with artifact race) different races represented on tokens. In this case we have seen quite a few more than 5.

actually, there is a little bit of correlation between the number of tokens and there being a tribal theme or not. lorwyn/shadowmoor block had 33 different tokens (granted this does count Garruk's 3/3 beast and Ajani's */* avatar, and a couple tokens that were printed for both like 1/1 kithkin soldiers). for comparison, the whole of alara block had 16 tokens, zendikar had 24 (with 3 different eldrazi spawn and the Tuktuk one), and scars block had 18 (with a golem token in each set, 2 goblins, 2 myr, the wurmcoils).
there were multiple tribes for each color, which is where that diversity comes from. elementals were in all 5 colors, blue had faeries and merfolk, green had elves, wolves, spiders, and treefolk, etc.

I bow to your humor. I have had to use my more square dice as +1/+1 counters and my rounded dice as saporling tokens before, but that's more of an issue with that deck and the way I play it. I do keep an assortment of glass beads of all different colors in my bag as well so token cards aren't needed too often. Eldrazi spawn are about the only ones I've used in the last 5 years or so.
On Topic, yeah it seems we aren't getting any red tokens but at least around here token supply is rarely ever a problem thanks to the guys who draft and just pitch all of their land/tokens/tips&tricks type cards into a big box and the LGS sells them for super cheap or gives them away.

FWIW I wouldn't give my tokens or Tips & Tricks to any store that makes money off them.

Looks like the only new token is the 2/2 flying vamp and 1/1 black deathtouch wolf. Very excited for the arts.

Probably another blue token. I'm calling 0/1 or 2/2 if it's a spirit, or */* for a potential blue zombie token.
Is there no chance for any kind of red token? Like say, a pack of wolves or vampires?

If true, they all have different power/toughness otherwise there would be an "a" after the 9 on the card number
Kamigawa was an exception; spirit tokens have nearly always just been white outside that block:
