Speaking of Draft, I have one final note before I sign off. We've decided to make a small change to the rules we announced for drafting with double-faced cards. When you pick a double-faced card, you will be required to place the card on top of your pile of other cards, and you will not be allowed to conceal it in any way until you pick your next card. While this will reveal information to other players, it also removes the need to worry about the manual dexterity required to hide a card quickly after taking it. Now, you will simply need to take into account the information you will be providing before picking a double-faced card.
Makes a lot of sense, I don't know why you would want to conceal it anyways. Giving signals that everyone can pick up immediately rules out guesswork and likely gives you a better deck overall.

Not a good sign that they already feel the need for a change, though I'd be surprised if these rules don't get updated at least one more time before Dark Ascension. Basically what Im trying to say is...
That really (legally) pushes online drafts away from IRL drafts, they're looking quite different. But, to be honest, it's the right thing to do... you can't ask players to not look around during a draft... I mean, your opponents are sometimes half a foot away from you!
This was basically the only way that they could have made double faced cards even worse than they already are. Which is pretty awful.
Do you realize how much better showing the entire table that you're drafting Green will make your deck? Do you have any idea what a signal is? People aren't going to fight you over the same color cards, resulting in weak decks. They'd rather be in a different color and have a stronger deck.
You'll get this one day after you'd played the game for a while.

I understand not wanting to have manual dexterity be a part of the limited experience. For example, having large enough hands to completely cover a card back shouldn't be a prerequisite for hiding information.
I'm confident I could have hidden cards just fine, but I understand how it disadvantages a nonzero amount of people who can't for whatever reason.
Also, as people have said, being able to signal clearly to the table is a powerful tool - it's just that now you have no choice.

Slingin' cardboard out of Yokohama, Japan. (if you're local and play EDH or want to test competitive, drop me a line!)

Couldn't they have some type of "duck blind" ? I mean, a plain old yellow business folder from Staples stood on edge would work wouldn't it?
I'm just mad the normal white sleeves I have for everything are enough see through if you turn the card so I'm going to have to get some different sleeves if I ever make a deck with DFC cards.

I don't fear the man who has played 10,000 decks once. I fear the man who played one deck 10,000 times.
good good good good good. whether you like two-face cards or not; whether you like showing your picks or not, consistency is the key here. No more is the person who picks and hides better or worse than one who shows. No more racing a pick so you can look around the table for a glimpse of who's taking what. I might actually draft this format irl now. I had no intention of doing so yesterday.
Edit- actually, this still doesn't solve everything. Now people will stall their pick until they see what their neighbor took. I guess everyone should reveal only after everyone has picked... still very awkward and bad.
Such a lack of real understanding of how draft actually works, it's not even funny.
Being able to send such strong signals first pick will benefit almost everyone, it's not a disadvantage at all. It's not standard where people have a sideboard full of hate cards specifically targeting whatever your bomb/strategy/colors are.

In (unsanctioned) team drafting, it can be a disadvantage to have your opponents know what color you really want to play and what bomb you might play against them if you end up playing that color. While I typically just casually team draft and pick teams randomly afterwards (and this gives yet another reason why we should pick teams after), those that are playing with arranged teams will likely want to allow themselves to conceal their picks.

Why are you getting snarky? This is more of a disadvantage than an advantage. Now your neighbors are going to snipe cards from you when they've got nothing better to take. I'd also rather my opponents not save their removal for my bombs.

or, yknow, use the checklist cards like everyone else?
Ok so now not only do you potentially give away information by drafting two faced cards if your opponents were observant, but now you have to leave it out in the open so all players get free access to the information without having to try. That sucks.
I've got over my dislike for two faced cards as a concept and for use in constructed, sealed etc. But what's involved in drafting them seriously alters the dynamics of drafting and does it for the worse.

Still, at least they are aware of some of the complaints and are being more clear about the DEAL. WITH. IT. side of the cards. (Get it?)

Doesn't that basically undermine PART of the reason for the checklist cards?
