This deck started because I really wanted to play a friendly mono-blue list, and I love to draw cards. There are only four counterspell type effects in the deck (Mana Drain, Arcane Denial, Time Stop, and Stifle). I am only playing Mana Drain because I have one and wanted to use it, it is by no means necessary in the deck.
My thought on EDH is that everybody should be playing spells; if you can't play enough of them against Kami of the Crescent Moon, you'll lose due to this deck's Black Vise type effects. People really seem to enjoy playing against the deck once I assure them they'll be able to resolve their spells, and probably in fact win. Typically the deck allows another person to win the game due to its very nature, but it puts up a good, clean, entertaining fight in the process. As a side-note: I have cast Windfall for 55 with Psychosis Crawler out.
Some of the more easily abused cards like Capsize and Mnemonic Wall are necessary evils in the world of EDH; however, they are not placed into the deck solely to be game-warping.
So, if you like playing with 15+ cards in your hand and making others at the table sweat when you resolve a card like Venser's Journal, try this list on for size. Suggestions are welcome; undoubtedly, this thread will continue to become more fleshed out as time goes on.
I stuck a Platinum Angel in here somewhere to allow for massive Windfall action, but I am too lazy to pull out the deck and nobody cares about mono-blue anyway, right?
EDIT: Deck has changed a bit -- I'll update the last and maybe bump the thread. Doubtful though.
I mentioned him in another thread but I feel this is the sort of deck that could attempt to abuse Laboratory Maniac. It seems like you could draw your deck out rather quickly if you tried.
