Compared to other anti-lifegain measures such as Everlasting Torment, Stigma Lasher, and Flames of the Blood Hand, I feel like this one is the most consistent and convenient of the list. I'm just not sure if it's worth the black splash or not.
Not sure if its worth the splash, but, if you are ALREADY packing black for something like blightning or the black lava spike, or even duress or inquisition this is simply awesome, yesterday i played against a junk built that has baloth, finks, and hierarch maindeck, I only won because of some timely Leylines of punishment in both game 2 and 3, but having this on the board could have ended that match in about 3 turns less.
And those are other things I'm splashing for. It's more stable, and just as fast. Someone else suggested Dark Confidant, which is brilliant for a deck that averages 1.5 CMC. It's saved me every single time I connected it.
I'm also toying with Anathemancer in the sideboard.
I've been brewing a deck centered around rain of gore, because of how proclamation heavy my Meta is. It actually turned out quite funny with grove of the burnwillows and needle bite trap. Rest for the weary is beyond any other modern burn spell and isochron scepter makes all your burn super good.

When does lightning bolt kill Emrakul? When your opponent's at three.
I was playing soul sisters and somehow won the first match. G2 was a bust. G3 was a long match. Rain of gore made half his hand more then useless. He got one swing with his 7/7 ascendant, and it was downhill from there for him.
I am running R/B and the card is an unnecessary waste of a sideboard slot that could be used to beat decks that are actually going to give you problems. Those decks would be:
Twin
Melira
Affinity
Gifts/Control
Jund
A R/B sideboard should contain the following:
4x Inquisition of Kozilek
4x Torpor Orb
4x Shattering Spree
3x Ensnaring Bridge
There is such a small percentage of decks that are build around gaining life (Martyr of Sands/Proclamation of Rebirth combo) that dedicating a sideboard slot specifically for that one match up is poor planning. If Martyr was a huge deck in the format and you expected to see it at every tournament, I could see running Rain of Gore or similar cards in the board. However with only 1% of the field running the deck, Rain of Gore is pretty much a wasted slot. Sure, there are a few decks with Kitchen Finks and Timely Reinforcements in the board. The card selection in Modern is good enough that you should be able to eat through 26 life before you run out of steam if you have to, so that bit of life gain should not even matter.
Hi Finks! Hi Baloth! Hi Timely Reinforcements!
Thoughts? (It DOES stop Finks, right?)
