Default Wizards vs. rancored_elf: the Resolution

My thanks again to the administrators, who agreed to post this update.

Unless anyone has been living under a rock for the past 11 weeks, we're all aware that Wizards of the Coast initiated legal action against me and ten unknown entities on January 19th. A news announcement on February 18th updated the situation.

I'm here to announce that earlier this week, Wizards and I signed a settlement agreement which will end the legal action being taken against me. I'm not allowed to discuss the specific terms of the agreement. However, you will notice obvious changes in my unofficial roles on this website. Please note my signature, below. I'm no longer interested in hearing any information about Wizards' products that aren't already publicly available. I'll continue to be a moderator, and I'll continue to be an active member of MTG Salvation.

I'm not here to badmouth anyone and I'm happy to put this behind me. I continue to appreciate Wizards for putting out a game that I've enjoyed for almost ten years, and hope to enjoy for many more.

A humongous, enthusiastic, heartfelt thanks goes out to Jay Shergill (Haloscope on the forums) for his involvement in this case. My wife and I can't thank him enough for all the time and effort he put into drafting documents, explaining legal terms to me, and negotiating in my defense. He could have very well spent that time and energy taking a paying client, or getting caught up on sleep! I'm so thankful to Jay for appearing during a dark and bewildering time for me, and offering his competent help. It was invaluable to have a lawyer on my side who not only understood the game and company who makes it, but also already knew about me and the history behind the case. I have no idea where this would have gone if I hadn't found him. Thank you, Jay!

Thank you also to every single person who supported me with words of encouragement, speaking out on forums and petitions for what they felt was right, writing or emailing those involved, and sending thoughts and prayers for my family and I in the past 11 weeks. I may have been publicly near silent since it all began, but you can bet I was reading every single post, PM, email, IM, and signature that was made on the topic. Thank you everyone!

You'll see me around the forums on a more regular basis again, and Jay is willing to help answer questions in this thread, should there be any.

Good to hear. Welcome back.

Also, to the attorney with the, "FIRST POST!", I feel that's a good reminder that it's behind you now and it's time to get back to the game.

Thanks everybody. But I was never actually gone. I know what you mean, though.

So did Hasbro requested any amount of money to be paid? I know you are not supposed to discuss specific terms of the agreement, so if you can't, its fine with me.

Hooray for a peaceful settlement. This should be the rightful way.

Gruul, Izzet and Orzhov. Officially screwed by WOTC.

Unfortunate that you can't run the rumor mill anymore. The communities of MtG worldwide shall miss your tremendous contributions to the game. However, I'm glad (and the rest of us hanging by our fingernails) that you're safe and not paying ridiculous amounts to WotC. We'll be seeing you in the rumor mill (and hoping you have some kind of successor in mind )!

Hey Daron,
Glad to hear this was resolved in a way that lessened your discomfort and, quite clearly, reduced any further hardship that this litigation may have placed upon your real, everyday life.
Hope to see you at the prerelease!
Cheers.

Thumbs up

Hi there,

I hope you did not loose any of the fun you had with this game and I hope you can enjoy it in the future the same way as you did before.
Thanks to haloscope for helping you.
By the way, hows it like to read the spoiler and the rumor mill without being involved? I guess it must be a bit weird...
