I knew once we hit 800,000 view that eventually we would get to 1Mil. It is very exciting to see they thread be so popular and helpful. However, I didn't want to pass that mark without something special. So I think a friendly contest would be loads of fun. WITH PRIZES OF COURSE! This is something I also would like to discuss.

Each person will be judged on these criteria for all three proxies together:
1. Difficulty (scale of 1-5)

Giving away proxies seems like an odd prize as well, since the proxy makers can just make them. Would giving away materials be ok? I do like that the competition gives incentive to make excellent proxies other than the normal just because. Are there certain prerequisites to give away those trophy dealies? Idk much about them, but that could be a good incentive. If normal cards are pretty much the only thing then I've got a few nice things to donate that I don't need anymore thanks to the proxy thread.
I have no problem with blank transparencies being given away.
Glue, transparencies and such are fine as well I assume? A high class printer would be neat for some big competition to have, also are the trophy things possible?

If someone wants to donate a high quality printer, I won't stop them. I'll see about the trophy though.

For voting I figured it should be communities choice, not mine. Too bad about not being able to give away proxies, but I guess we could either do blanks or I could come up with some product.
You could save yourself a ton of time and just give it to Wermine. I think he'd win running away in a user vote.
There are prizes for more than one person. I wanted this to be a way to get very high quality proxies of cards we rarely do in the thread. Think of it this way, its like doing what you usually do only with a little friendly competition and free stuff.
WHO DOESN'T LIKE FREE STUFF, FOR SERIAL!
Also, for fun I'd also put the best proxy of each person into a banner for the thread. Sounds good right?
Put in a public poll, I see him winning easy. He receives the most requests for creation by far. Perhaps not recently, but throughout the thread most certainly.
He is the face of custom card proxies. While there are plenty of people who make proxies that are as good or better, it's hard to compete with the recognition factor.
I don't know how I would feel about competing while I use a template someone else made...
I assume that the only good way to do this is to require new proxies, and not a submission of our favorites that have already been completed, right?

AH HA! but we are not comparing contributions here. If someone new shows three cards that are truly spectacular, they will win.
Ok, so I've been thinking of the contest and here are some basic ground rules.
First, PRIZES! (no, I don't care where you live, I'll still send it to you)
Judging:
If it warrants I will make a separate thread for this.
Each person will be judged on these criteria for all three proxies together: (THIS IS ALWAYS UP FOR DEBATE, I AM STILL NOT SURE EXACTLY HOW WE SHOULD DO THIS)
1. Difficulty (scale of 1-5)
2. Card/Art appropriateness (scale of 1-5)
3. Appearance, easy to read etc... (scale of 1-5)
4. Originality (scale of 1-5)
I thought it was weird everyone would expect weremine to auto win. So far there hasn't been any incentive at all to create quality proxies so how would anyone really know if anyone was better than him? Not to say he's a slouch at all, he definitely sets the standard. I mean I know I've made proxies that wouldn't exactly appeal to the masses, when I asked about I was even encouraged to make proxies that I liked, not the status quo. Which is nice, but isn't helping the community, like these tournaments could.
Zeerbe, didn't you note how there was a lot of downloads of your new template but there wasn't a proportionate amount of proxies on the thread showing up? Wouldn't that imply a high amount of lurking proxy makers that don't have incentive to share?
I believe these tournaments are essential to start developing high quality proxy images on a larger scale than the occasional random whim of the current proxiers.
The numbers in parentheses denote how many proxies for the given card are already in HG's dropbox.
Cards I will alter:
Winter Orb (2)
Looter Il-Kor (2)
Glissa, the Traitor(3)
Zeerbe, didn't you note how there was a lot of downloads of your new template but there wasn't a proportionate amount of proxies on the thread showing up?(My edit here: there are almost no proxies showing up right now) Wouldn't that imply a high amount of lurking proxy makers that don't have incentive to share?
I sure did. And not sharing to me defines the shady side of proxies. Why aren't they sharing? Scared to? No reason for that. We aren't actively putting people down for posting are we?
I don't wish to see a "clock" on the thread. It's is, and hopefully will continue to be, amazing.

A couple things:
There should be a limit on submissions (1?).
There should be a very strict time limit.
What kind of scoring rubric?
Also, I think hand-made prizes would be way cooler than product.
The Commandments of EDH
I have some ideas about the type of contest,
There will be no less than 3 and no more than 5 per person. Each person is judged on his or her collection of proxies rather than one of them.
If proxys are allowed as prizes I would do a prize structure like this:
#1
9 (foil or regular of the winners choice)
#2
5 (foil or regular of the winners choice)
#3
3 (foil or regular of the winners choice)
Also I would give 2 Proxies for 4th and 5th if there are more than 10 people involved in the contest.

Wermine makes nice stuff, but I think there's at least half a dozen people actively making equally great proxies.
Put in a public poll, I see him winning easy. He receives the most requests for creation by far. Perhaps not recently, but throughout the thread most certainly.
