Don Atello was the greatest mafia boss in the state. His assets were worth billions and he lived like a king, but at the same time he had a flawless police record and could get favors from anybody in the city, including the mayor.
So when he turned up with a bullet in his head, nobody doubted that it was an inside job.
But what conspirators within the Atello family made the power play? Who are attempting to grab the power of the Don for themselves? Better find out, before they get you too..
RULES:
1. Minimum of two posts per game day, and one "confirmation" post at night (if you have a night ability, that can be your confirmation post). You can break this requirement ONCE before being kicked. If you will be gone for a day or two, say so beforehand. If you will be gone for a week or more at any time, dont bother signing up.
2. Bold your votes, please do NOT bold your FOSes or anything else, unless you are using a day ability. If somebody bolds something other than a vote, you can assume it to be a day ability (if its not, they die).
Me no likey random votes. So just checking in for now.

Ambush Krotiq makes me laugh so much. I keep rereading the card and it keeps not having Flash. In what sense is this an ambush again? I just have visions of this huge Krotiq poorly concealed in some bushes, feeling slightly sad that his carefully planned ambushes never seem to work.
Spock is not portrayed correctly. If Vulcans are above petty emotions, what motivates him to join the most elite starship crew in the galaxy? I, on the other hand, have transcended the weakness of emotion and achieved a blissful lack of caring. Apathy is my strength, our strength, which prevents us from being all-to-human. In this spirit, may Meh be with you, always.
Why don't you like random votes, Axelrod? At this point none of us have anything to go on so we might as well. We have no current info. Nobody died last night, so the only information we have up to this point is the players and our own roles. I'm going to assume at a game this size that there is one three person mafia (give or take) but I'm not really familiar with anything this size, ....so I'm going to have to watch the playing styles of everyone to get to understand. I'm going to remain neutral at this point and just go random.
If I had to vote right now, I'd pick Lt Ripper. The great thing about Ripper is that he's a truly horrible poster; you know, the sort that doesn't actually stop to think "gee, should I be posting this?" Now, granted, this colors my perception of him a little. Frankly, if MiseTings put him on Survivor right now, I'd vote for him in a heartbeat. But let's assume I being level-headed here... then perhaps, since Ripper posts whatever he thinks, we can pick up on some tells in his posts. And I think we can. He just seems bloodthirsty to me. First, he votes for not liking someone's name... then he FOS's someone because they have an avatar in bad taste. Seems like someone who just wants to see players die... which translates to someone who wants to see townies die.
However, I guess it's possible Lt Ripper is just being ... well, stupid. In other words, himself. Hard to tell. At the very least, we shouldn't listen to his dumb ass.
In any case, I think we should start off by having everyone say something about themselves. The more they post, the better. At the very least, I think a very obscure hint regarding your abilities would be good, because we can check that up over time and try to pick out the liars. I already said what I am. If everyone says this or something similar, we'll get a little informal database-sorta-thing going. BTW this is totally voluntary... obviously if you're the cop or something you should keep yer trap shut.

This is a pretty bad idea in my experience. The more unnescessarily claimed townies/loyalists we have, the easier it will be for the mafia to identify who has important townie roles. You're an experienced player, you ought to know that.

Sarcasm can look like many things. None of those is the word "vote" in bold freaking text.
My vote for Hilidsfja was just a random/lurker vote.
The comment made after it was a joke/sarcasm.
And what does my posting ability in MT have to do with anything in this game? I'm sick of being slammed over here for what I do on A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT BOARD!
God, if I registered with a completely different name you wouldn't even know it's me, my posts here are compeletely different from what I post over at MT (well, maybe not The Gutter).

I already said that it might just be that I don't like you. Perhaps that shouldn't have anything to do with who I vote for... notice that I'm not voting for you, or for anyone, yet.
I don't like the idea of voting Mushashi off. I think it's very odd that he has three votes already. Is it the Mafia pooling their votes together? Or am I being paranoid? In any case, I hope that more people can check in and a few more developments can go on before we, as a town, settle on who goes under the noose. The longer days go on, the more information we share as a town; the Mafia gets unlimited intercommunication anyway, and thus wants short days, so let's do what we can to keep Day 1 going on long enough to everyone's satisfaction, alright people? Let's not vote Mushashi off quite yet, please... I'd really appreciate some unvotes here.
And one more thing about Azrael's comment: I understand that some things should remain secret. For example, I'll tell everyone I'm the Lawyer (a Lawyer? Are there two?), but you can bet your bippy I'm not letting the Mafia know what that actually means. And since I have a very obscure, nonstandard role, I'm sure other people have obscure roles too. I doubt the Mafia could figure it all out themselves... but I digress. The point is that somehow or other we're going to have to share information during the day. Subtlety, innuendo, some sort of code, something, because this is a game of information, and without it we won't be effective, and the only time we have to share it is during the Day.

Unlike most other Mafia games, a random vote really isn't necessary. The town had all of the first night to run investgations while the Mafia were restrained, so we can at least make a partially informed vote.
To billking and Lt. Ripper:
I've played in a lot of Mafia games, and someone random voting for me because my name is 'hard to spell' (it's still spelled incorrectly in aurorasparrow's post) is practically tradition now. I wouldn't worry too much about it.
Jesus Christ, man. If anyone has a problem with it, deal's off. My bad, my bad.

It's also an excellent mafia strategy to try and pick out a weak, unpopular member on day one, and eliminate them based solely on that. Yet another bad omen from you.

How would you know that the mafia gets unlimited communication?? How would you know if they are allowed to talk during the day as well as the night?

If townies can figure out subtle hints, or figure out what you AREN'T, from your hinting, then it's just as bad for the town as if you came out and claimed fully. If there's some kind of message you can create that won't be noticed AT ALL until later, if you need to make a game, so be it. But overtly giving out to the public information about the roles of our fellow townies is NOT necessary, and very likely detrimental. It's the kind of reconaissance and knowledge the mafia would love to have about us, especially in a game this small. The less people there are, and the more townies that claim or semi-claim, the higher their odds of picking off the cop or doc.
Here's the thing. My "guess" is that everyone's got some role in this game. It's kind of small for there to be just "basic townie" types. This would include the Traitors. If I'm right, telling your role would not, in fact, clear yourself because the Traitors would have roles too (like "the lawyer" for instance. I mean, come on, what movie did you ever see where the Lawyer didn't turn out to be one of the baddies. Not so sure it was smart to come right out with that Billking.)
SafetyDance: I don't care for random votes because they are pointless. They are, as the name implies, random. They have 0% chance of advancing the town's cause, and might result in unfortunate bandwagons on innocents. It only takes 7 to lynch and musachi got three before even posting.
I'll also agree with the suggestion that there are probably 3 traitors (but could be as many as 4) probably including a "Godfather" type, because, come on, this is Mafia Mafia. Can't have Mafia without a Godfather. Right off the bat, however, this means we have to be somewhat cautions about inspection results and such. I mean, if someone pings as a Traitor, it's probably true, but if they ping Loyalist, doesn't necessarily mean they are.
That's all I got for now.

OK here's are my opinions as of right now:
- Lt Ripper is probably ok. I think his random voting and quick FOS had more to do with his posting style and a bad attempt to be funny than because he was Mafia. His unvote is going to merit me leaving him alone for a little while.
- Azrael, at this point, is playing quite aggressively. I say one thing suspicious (k, k, I'll admit my first post was, a litte), and he's ready to kill me because of it. Although you might kill traitors that way, you're also bound to kill off loyalists who simply stuck their foots in their mouth... like I did. I'm sorry, k?
- SafetyDance, Titus, and ChromeMoxen all seem quite suspicious to me. I really think the early gang-vote on Mushashi is a tell. Out of those three, SafetyDance seems the most likely to be traitor to me. I think he saw my post and changed his vote off of Mushashi and onto me because it was opportunistic. Plus, he is voting for me, and in the great tradition of voting for the people voting for you...
I vote SafetyDance. Remember, SafetyDance, I'm a reasonable man; convince me and I'll vote for someone else.

*raises an eyebrow* I was simply applying pressure, not calling for everyone to rally together and lynch you immediately.
I'm not sure what you expect. You slip up, advocate a strategy that would help the mafia, and you expect me not to point it out and do a little investigation?
When I see people immediately slipping up and making moves that will help the mafia right off the bat, I do tend to follow up and see where that leads me. I'm well aware that bad play != scum, but in the space of your first post you hit two of the big mafia "tells", going after an unpopular member in hopes of an easy kill, and asking for information about other townies' roles. That kind of play is something the town needs to watch for, if it expects to win.
Personally, I think billking is acting damn suspicious. Hopping around from vote to vote, trying to get some sort of bandwagon going to lynch someone. Now he's just voting for someone because they voted for him.
Lt Ripper is just an idiot.
Azrael is being his usual self.

Nah, I have no problem with you calling me out for my mistakes. It's the bold text that I have an issue with. I wanna live, damnit. I'm sure you would too. Try to empathize a little.

I've only voted for one person; I'm not hopping.
And I'm not voting for SafetyDance only because he voted for me. I'm voting for him because he's one of the three people who voted for Mushashi, and I used voting-for-me as a tiebreaker to decide which to pick.

I'm a little curious, CM. Why the vote for musashi? I couldn't help but notice you were the 3rd person on that wagon, and that you failed to provide an explanation for your vote. Would you mind sharing what your reasoning was?

You already know what I think.
BTW I don't know if mushashi is some forum regular over here at Salvation, but I've never heard of him. Lurker votes make a lot more sense when you know the person you're lurker-voting. This makes the mushashi bandwagon all the more suspicious.
Also, kcw, lol at your post.... I flipped a coin and Blader was heads.

Yes, MUSASHI (note spelling) is a regular here. While it's possible that the bandwagon is a ploy by the loyalists, I doubt it; it just seems like plain old lurker-voting.
Enough of this. Where does anyone get off calling anyone a lurker at this point? The game has been up and running less than 24 hours, plus, it started at night (10:55 p.m. e.s.t.) when many would be sleeping.
kingcobweb: trying to defend votes against musashi as lurker votes is completely ridiculous. Look at when those votes were cast. Your logic is terrible.

I don't see how. People vote randomly against people that haven't posted yet. What's the problem? It's commonly done.

I have to agree with axelrod here, not so much that it mushashi was targeted (lurkervoting is a valid practice) but that the timing and quantity of the votes makes it suspicious. 3 votes is a lot. Plus, lurkervoting was not cited as a reason... there isn't any good evidence indicating that lurkervoting was the actual intent.

Chrome Moxen was IIRC the third person to randomly vote for the same person. The third person on the bandwagon, especially if they claim to be random, usually is a Mafia member, according to Mafiascum.net. Also, 3/7 votes isn't random, it's a bandwagon.

I'm still not convinced he did anything worthy of getting a wagon started over. Yeah, he was the 3rd person to vote for somebody, but that could be explained by the fact that he isn't the brightest bulb in the fixture, if ya know what I'm saying. Still, I will put a FOS on him for voting without posting reasoning, but I will withhold a vote until he comes in to defend himself.
Maybe it's just because I'm clueless and a n00b at Mafia, but why are you going after Chrome so aggressively? He made a random vote, why not just wait for an explanation instead of starting a bandwagon trying to lynch him?

20Bux mentioned this page, which is a strategy page on the site that most consider to be the official rulebook for Mafia. The system used by the page's author indicates that being the third person to jump on a wagon equates to a +15% chance of being Mafia.

The way that he made that vote, without any explanation whatsoever, makes it look like blatant mafia bandwagoning. It could very well be only an oversight on his part, but it shouldn't hurt to put a little pressure on him to respond quickly. I don't think we'll need any further votes in his direction for the moment though, unless he fails to come forward and give a decent explanation.

I've checked my atlas twice and found no city or state entitled "Cocky"
-.-
Random vote: Musashi
However, I guess it's possible Lt Ripper is just being ... well, stupid. In other words, himself. Hard to tell. At the very least, we shouldn't listen to his dumb ass.
In any case, I think we should start off by having everyone say something about themselves. The more they post, the better. At the very least, I think a very obscure hint regarding your abilities would be good, because we can check that up over time and try to pick out the liars. I already said what I am. If everyone says this or something similar, we'll get a little informal database-sorta-thing going. BTW this is totally voluntary... obviously if you're the cop or something you should keep yer trap shut.
edit: FOS on everyone who advocates random voting

This is a pretty bad idea in my experience. The more unnescessarily claimed townies/loyalists we have, the easier it will be for the mafia to identify who has important townie roles. You're an experienced player, you ought to know that.
Vote Billking.
Sarcasm much?
Well, I like long walks on the beach, romantic candlelit dinners, my turn ons are: Flourescent lightning, ninjitsu, and this smiley: . My turn off's are: Green pillows, video games, and teh intraweb.
Jesus Christ, man. If anyone has a problem with it, deal's off. My bad, my bad.
Look, maybe it was a bad idea. My point is we definitely should be talking about something. I thought it was a good topic, but only so long as it doesn't draw me votes.
What do YOU want to talk about, Azrael? I'm all ears. Entertain me.

Sarcasm can look like many things. None of those is the word "vote" in bold freaking text.

vote mushahsi
my sig. made by me.

Musashi(3): titus, SafetyDance, Chrome Moxen
Billking(1): Azrael
Hvirfilvindr(1): Lt. Ripper
7 to lynch. And Im off to bed.
4th place at CCC&G Pro Tour

26: 25.3%
To billking and Lt. Ripper:
I've played in a lot of Mafia games, and someone random voting for me because my name is 'hard to spell' (it's still spelled incorrectly in aurorasparrow's post) is practically tradition now. I wouldn't worry too much about it.
Lurk Vote: 20Bux
Anyway... just until more info, unvote musashi, vote billking.
not saying we should wagon here, but I do think that we should apply pressure where needed.
Well, in the absence of anyone else acting suspiciously, how about you?
It's also an excellent mafia strategy to try and pick out a weak, unpopular member on day one, and eliminate them based solely on that. Yet another bad omen from you.
It's odd that mushashi has three random votes. But probably not odd enough to warrant defending him yet.

Lt Ripper is just an idiot.
Azrael is being his usual self.
So, vote Billking.
We don't really want to get bogged down in survivor style thinking if we can help it, either.
I've only voted for one person; I'm not hopping.
And I'm not voting for SafetyDance only because he voted for me. I'm voting for him because he's one of the three people who voted for Mushashi, and I used voting-for-me as a tiebreaker to decide which to pick.
Your premises are flawed. Reconsider.

I'm sorry, I thought you had voted for other people.
BUT. What's wrong with voting for Musashi? He was lurking, they voted for him. So?
3 votes is a lot of pressure.
You have a point though, lurker votes rule. Unvote safetydance, vote 20Bux. I can deal with SafetyDance later.

I'm a little curious, CM. Why the vote for musashi? I couldn't help but notice you were the 3rd person on that wagon, and that you failed to provide an explanation for your vote. Would you mind sharing what your reasoning was?
BTW I don't know if mushashi is some forum regular over here at Salvation, but I've never heard of him. Lurker votes make a lot more sense when you know the person you're lurker-voting. This makes the mushashi bandwagon all the more suspicious.
Also, kcw, lol at your post.... I flipped a coin and Blader was heads.

kingcobweb: trying to defend votes against musashi as lurker votes is completely ridiculous. Look at when those votes were cast. Your logic is terrible.
Musashi(2): titus, Chrome Moxen
Billking(2): Azrael, safetydancel

Vote: Chrome Moxen.
Logic worth pursuing aggressively. Let's do it.
unvote 20Bux, vote Chrome Moxen

I too am looking forward to hearing his explanation for that. Till then:
unvote billking, vote Chrome Moxen.
20Bux mentioned this page, which is a strategy page on the site that most consider to be the official rulebook for Mafia. The system used by the page's author indicates that being the third person to jump on a wagon equates to a +15% chance of being Mafia.

Considering the nature of the wagon in question in question, I think the chance is considerably higher.

But I don't think we should go too aggressive, I'll save my vote until later when he gives reason for what he did.
Meanwhile: Unlurker unvote: 20Bux
The way that he made that vote, without any explanation whatsoever, makes it look like blatant mafia bandwagoning. It could very well be only an oversight on his part, but it shouldn't hurt to put a little pressure on him to respond quickly. I don't think we'll need any further votes in his direction for the moment though, unless he fails to come forward and give a decent explanation.
