If anyone is unable to view the Excel file or the PDF file, let me know ASAP.
Another note that's important for this contest: It may be advisable to discuss via PM rather than in the threads, so that people don't eavesdrop on your answers.
(FYI: The reason this file is labeled as the 10th crossword rather than the 9th is because this crossword was constructed after my ninth one, although clues haven't been written for the ninth one yet. I was going to use the 9th, and I was planning to do a collaboration with more of the [Crafters] on this one, but then we learned that that wouldn't be a good idea for the contest. The ninth one will come later, not as a clan contest but as another one that will be run in Forum Games.)
Submission rules:
Submissions should be done via PM. You could simply send a list of words, or the modified Excel file, or a scan of the crossword filled-in by hand; anything is acceptable as long as I can decipher what you've written.
EDIT: November 15: While I had mentioned some edits about incorrect letter enumerations, I hadn't actually made the changes in the documents I linked to. I corrected them now.
Is A3 down supposed to say (5)? The slot is 7 letters long.
Also, can we PM you answers to make sure they're correct before we base other answers off of them? (y'know, like Moss_Elemental always does in the threads, lol)

Also, sorry, no PMs to me allowed. However, the thing with a cryptic crossword is that when an answer fits, you should be fairly confident that they are correct.
Big update... On November 14th, at 11:09 PM, less than 72 hours after this crossword was posted, [The Izzet] sent me a PM with the solution. Congratulations to [The Izzet], you are the first clan to finish!!!
Oh shoot... they must be masterminds over there...
Okay... I guess I missed what a cryptic crossword was because I just read this on your link:
Here is an example (taken from The Guardian crossword of Aug 6 2002, set by "Shed").
15D Very sad unfinished story about rising smoke (8)
is a clue for TRAGICAL. This breaks down as follows.
15D indicates the location and direction (down) of the solution in the grid
"Very sad" is the definition
"unfinished story" gives "tal" ("tale" with one letter missing; i.e., unfinished)
"rising smoke" gives "ragic" (a "cigar" is a smoke and this is a down clue so "rising" indicates that "cigar" should be written up the page; i.e., backwards)
"about" means that the letters of "tal" should be put either side of "ragic", giving "tragical"
"(8)" says that the answer is a single word of eight letters.
Geeeezzz, I don't think I will ever solve this puzzle now!!
First submission is final; no corrections can be made after submitting.
(Your clan got everything correct though, so you've definitely got first. Since time doesn't matter, then all perfect scores will be given a first place.)
It's not easy to Google an answer to a cryptic crossword. If this were a non-cryptic crossword, then it may be possible, but I haven't seen any cryptic crossword solving algorithms out there.
I dislike Crypic Crosswords because, while there are usually tons of solutions to a clue, I have to figure out what the cluegiver wants the correct answer to be.
It's just as bad as that Batman Animated Series part where the Riddler gives Batman four quarters and a penny and Batman somehow makes the correct guess on the first try: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJs81bl1KyM
Cryptic crosswords? Many solutions? I thought the point of a cryptic crossword is that you can be fairly certain about an answer once you find a logical answer. Any other answer that fits can only be coincidence, and also, given how much detail is in the clue, very unlikely to happen. It's not likely that there are any alternative solutions that match both the definition and the subsidiary indicator.
Quote from "Wikipedia article" »
Because a typical cryptic clue describes its answer in detail and often more than once, the solver can usually have a great deal of confidence in the answer once it has been determined. This is in contrast to non-cryptic crossword clues which often have several possible answers and force the solver to use the crossing letters to distinguish which was intended.

That's the Batman/Riddler schtick, though. Batman (as the ultimate detective) decipher's Riddler's clues because no one else could. Its like A.C. Doyle's famous sleuth. He frequently observed things not apparent to the reader.

Agreed. If they are written correctly, the solution should be obvious, and the crossword aspect makes typically only one solution correct. There are exceptions where a writer misses an alternative answer that fits, but they're pretty rare.
