You all have been brought here to the original Command center in Angel Grove, California, from your respective places. Among you there are those who chose to walk in darkness and who have forsaken their original Power Ranger vows. Your goal is to weed out these scum and either destroy or capture them before they destroy you, and in turn the universe.
(Instructions copied from carrion pigeons, who copied them from Cropcircles.)
In a game of mafia, the 2 basic roles are Townie and Mafioso. In this game, the town will be made up of those trying to figure out who killed everyone and stop them from killing again. For the town to win, they must kill all members of the mafia. Most townies have only one tool: the lynch.
-While the game is in "Day" mode, any player may post in the thread. They may also FOS or Vote.
-FOS stands for Finger of Suspision. It has no direct bearing on the game, but it is a nice way to let everyone know who you are suspicious of.
-When any one player has reached a number of votes equal to the majority of the players in the game, that player will be lynched and the game will go into night.
There are 2 roles that are very common in mafia games that will be used in this game as well. The Cop and the Doctor, which are both town roles.
-During the night, the Cop may send me the name of 1 player he would like to investigate. I will then reveal to the Cop whether that player is a mafioso or a townie.
-The Doc sends me the name of a player that he would like to protect. That player will be immune to nightkills for that night. (Note: The doc may not protect himself)
The mafia, or those who killed everyone, will win when they exceed or equal the town in number(at which point, they control the lynch). They may also post during the day and use both Votes and FOSes. However,
they have another tool: the ability to nightkill.
-While the game is in night, the mafia may communicate with each other.
-Then, one of them will send me the name of 1 player to be killed.
-Once I have received the mafia's Night Choice, as well as the choice of any other player with a Night Ability, I will post a morning scene, and Day will start.
There may or may not be other roles in this game. For reference, here are a few other possible roles.
-Vigilante: The Vigilante is a killer on the Town side who can either choose to kill every night, or choose to kill a certain number of times during the game, depending on the variation.
-Back-up Doc: Assumes the Doctor's abilities after the Doctor dies.
-Back-up Cop: Assumes the Cop's abilities after the Cop dies.
-Role blocker: Chooses one player per night to block from performing his or her Night Choice.
-Mason: The Masons are a group on the Town's side who know each other to be townies and can talk to each other at Night.
-Outcast: Is not scum, but only wins the game if the town loses.
The Official Rules: (as stolen from carrion pigeons, who stole them from CropCircles, who stole them from LJustus, who stole them from Puzzle, who stole them from...etc, etc.(Then editied as I saw fit.)
1. Votes: Bold/red your votes and unvotes. They should look like this Vote: carrion pigeons. Unvote before casting a new vote, by typing Unvote. Any votes or unvotes not in bold/red will not be counted. You may vote No lynch, and a majority of these votes will end the day without a death.
2. Do not quote any Mod PM's. Breaking this rule results in an instant modkill.
3. Do not speak about this game outside this thread unless it is night and your role instructs you to do so.
4. Please do not edit or delete your posts no matter how stupid a mistake you made, double posting is allowed, so if a correction (non-spelling/grammer material that is crucial to the game) is needed, do so.
5. Once you’re dead, you’re dead, so stop posting. You may have ONE 'goodbye post', but if it contains any strategy or information, your side instantly loses. This is also known as a "BAH!, good luck [insert side]!" post.
6. If you have a night choice to make, it is due by the posted deadline. I will not wait for you – if you do not submit a choice to me, tough! No choice will be made.
7. Executions will require a simple majority of votes. Once a player has reached the necessary majority, his pleas are useless and any attempts to unvote will be unheeded.
8. If you are requesting a mod prod or vote count, Bold your request so that I can see it more clearly.
9. I want this game to keep moving so I expect everyone to post at least once every two days and if you don't you will receive a prod on the third day. If you still haven't posted I will take further action. If you anticipate being unavailable for more than a 48-hour period, please post a notice to that effect in the thread or PM me.
10. No Swearing. Minor swearing is ok, as long as it is not used towards a player and is used sparsely. (Read: THERE WILL BE NO: "F*c* you you f*c*ing scum-***!" But: "Damn, this sucks," or "bloody hell" are ok.) Remember kids, this is a mature game, no little kid first time swearing online stuff, you will be warned ONCE if you become offensive, anything further might get you banned from the forum.
11. Have fun, remember this is a game, don't bring your personal problems into here. (Excuses for being away are legitimate, finals/mid-terms are nigh upon us.)
12. Lastly and most importantly. Respect me and the rest of the players. I'd rather not have to modkill any players. That's no fun for any of us.
[*****************Game Mechanic********************]
Each day a Player can post the phrase "It's morphin time!" This MUST be bold/red so I can see it. This phrase allows players to "morph." After you morph, you can NOT un-morph. Only five players per game day may morph. Once the five players are morphed, no other player may morph.
If you have any questions regarding a morphing ablility, PM me.
[*************************************************]
There will be NO night 0, any role with a night ability may not use it until Night 1. Any role that may "speak" with another player during the night, may only PM that player while the game is in NIGHT mode.

"Rangers! You must listen to me, Zordons death shall not be in vain! You must find out who among you allowed this to happen...remember...remember..."
Zordon (CropCircles), blue-headed non-role, has been modkilled.
I would like to ask that people please not morph unless they really think their morphed ability is way better than their regular ability. Right now, it seems that just everyone that feels like it is morphing, and chances are that most people should stay as colorless 2/2s if you catch my drift.
Okay, this might come across as really really weird, but I need to partially claim right now. This took so much back-and-forth between me and the mod it isn't funny, but the jist of it is that if I morph and claim, I can't be nightkilled, but I can still be targeted by normal role stuff. If I hadn't claimed, it would have been just the opposite. There was another condition I don't want to get into for fear of a modkill that prompted me to claim so early, but yeah there's a reason I'm claiming in my second post ITT.

Boo-hoo. Grow up, seriously.
Anyway, to do with all of this Morphin' crap, I'm almost positive that along with the Rangers there are probably scum that have the Morphin ability too (even though from what I remember, they usually come from that dumb *****'s wand that she throws into the ground). Maybe not however, because I don't think anyone can ascertain whether or not a Morph is legitimate or not.
Also, could Morphin' be giving away the town's power roles?
Just to make sure that people aren't lying about morphin', it would be nice to orchestrate some way of determining whether the maximum number of morphs have been used, and if not, who didn't morph.
One thing I'm not too sure about is whether those who are morphed go to normal the next day or something. Although if they didn't, by day 3 everybody could be morphed even with no deaths until then, so I suppose the morph does wear off? I'd appreciate some confirmation from WOLG if we can get it. In the meantime, It's Morphin' Time!!! Trust me, the town is better off if I'm morphed.
So, it seems we have KCW's odd partial claim and the fact that our 5 morphs have been used up almost immediately to discuss. I'm inclined to disbelieve KCW right now. You needed to claim that you're un-nightkillable so that you don't get nightkilled? What the hell kind of role is that? Sounds pretty made up to me, in fact. There's not much point in being un-nightkillable if there's no chance that the scum will ever target you. *ahem*Loran16 in Seifeld*ahem*. Like I said, this reeks of being made up by KCW, so I'm going to Vote Kingcobweb.

Either he's a mafia pulling a huge gambit which I can't see any positive results for, or he's a townie telling the truth. I think it's latter (or at least he's telling the truth, not the townie thing). It seems too complicated and messed up for scum to try and fake. Also, if he is unnightkillable, that makes him more of a town (or neutral) then mafia. I'm inclined to believe him.
I think that we shouldn't go "omg we roxx0rz when morphed". If you actually have good abilities it's painting targets. If you don't, well then thats lying to the town. If you're scum, then you might draw doc protection, which is bad for the town. I don't see how this benefits the town at all.
Guys, before we start bandwagonning, how about we find out if there is a way to determine if anyone lied about morphing. This could be the best way of finding scum now that all 5 people have "morphed". Pehaps a good idea would be if anyone else has a morph ability, and can test if the 5 person limit has been saturated by seeing if their ability becomes activated. From there we have 5 people, one of which would be lying i.e. scum.

It is by far the most confusing role I have ever encountered. Here's the gist of it, leaving out some details. Bear with me here... if I am unmorphed, I can be nightkilled, investigated etc. like normal. If I morph, I gain an ability I don't wish to disclose, AND all non-nightkill abilities against me fail. If, however, I morph and reveal part of my ability in the next 10 (total, not just my) posts, I become completely unnightkillable while morphed but all non-nightkilling abilities targetting me fail, and still retain the ability morphing gave me. It was also hinted that after this, cops would get... strange results on me. I tried desperately to clear this up, but the best I can guess from the hints is that they will receive a neutral result after I morph, with possibly someone returning a scum result.
Phew.
As you can imagine, it took a whole lot of PM's back and forth between me and the mod to clear all this up, as upon reading my initial PM I turned yellow and sprouted question marks above my head. Actual pic of me:
Machin, I don't mean to sound OMGUS, but what the hell? I reveal the fact that I currently can't get nightkilled and your first instinct is to vote for me? I may be paranoid, but does this seem a tad odd to anyone else?

Right, because obviously only townies are able to morph. That would be really, really dumb, and I have more faith in the mod than to make a game that is broken by something as dumb as that.

No, I mean maybe someone attempted to "morph" without even having the ability to and attempt to clear themselves while stopping townies from using their morph abilities. If it works, hey, we caught someone and allowed someone to morph. If not, then who the hell cares?
I morph and claim, I can't be nightkilled, but I can still be targeted by normal role stuff. If I hadn't claimed, it would have been just the opposite.
So this means unnightkillable vs untargetable (but killable).

This contradicts what you said before doesn't it?
Before: If morph+claim --> unkillable, but targettable with other abilities.
Now: If morph+claim --> unkillable, and untargettable with other abilities.

Everyone can morph. The flavour is that we're all power rangers, but some of us are traitors.

Unvote, vote: KCW.
That was a typo on my part. If morph+claim --> unkillable, but targettable with other abilities is correct.
I am also not comfortable with how quickly this bandwagon is moving. You seize upon a small mistake of mine to place the third vote in a 12-person game? I'm sure we all know that the third vote placed on a person is likely scum.

Oh. K, that's a dumb idea then. Also, KCW, that's a pretty boneheaded mistake. It also reeks of making something up in an attempt to clear yourself.

It was a typo. So yes, if that's what you mean by a boneheaded mistake.

Your claim is so convenient. Too convenient. According to you we can't get a good read on you and you will not die tonight... By scum's hands anyway...
Your role is enormously selfdestructive and requires you to make a mistake on purpose to be any good. I can't believe WoLG would make a role wich would inevitable blow up in his face.
KCW, will you please tell us the name of your character? I want to be able to look it up to see if everything you're saying makes sense, if even remotely. The vote stays for now.
It is strange that a townie would want to kill someone who isn't nightkillable, because an unnightkillable person is extremely likely to be town. However, consider the information he had at the time. Your claim is very dubious and very, very odd. hard to confirm as well...
With that reasoning I don't think Machin Shin is really doing something wrong...
What do you mean by "too convenient?" Claiming with my second post isn't convenient; honestly, it's fairly frustrating for a role to make me do that. If I claimed with this role right before I would be lynched, that would be convenient.
Oh, believe me, this role seems to be designed with the intention of making the person who it is bestowed upon it squirm and wriggle about. At the risk of a mod-kill, it was explained that the role is designed specifically to make me look bad.
Why should I say the name of my character now? First, what good will it do, and second, I don't want to feed the bad guys any more info than they already have. Stop fishing.
Just as Machin Shin finishes his sentace, a light fills the power chamber.
MMod, Kingcobweb, Paranoid, Diggy and Machin Shin all erupt in a glowing rainbow of light. The sounds of dinosaurs, ninjas, motorcycles, blasters, and explosions can be heard as the power of millenia envelop them.
You all see their awesome new armor, but you can only guess the ablilites they have gained.
This is scummy at worst and poor play at the best.
Let's suppose he's telling the truth. By making himself unnightable, and announcing himself as such, he's just made every other townie more vulnerable (including the cop, btw) Is his role more valuable to the town than the doc or cop? I think it's unlikely, but by claiming, he's put the doc and cop at greater risk. If he's telling the truth, he's put his own survival ahead of the interests of the town.
Now why might he be scum? Well, why would he need protection from investigation, which would most likely come from a pro-town cop? And why would he conveniently tell us that such an investigation would result in a neutral or even scum result? I agree with Paranoid. This is just all too convenient.
KCW, do us a favor if you want validate your claim. Tell us how many messages from the mod it took to clear up your role, and include the time stamps as well.

What the hell man, what the hell. Where to begin:
1. I'm only non-nightkillable IF I announce I am so. That's also not my only ability.
2. I don't have protection from townie abilities after I've claimed.
3. What result the cop gets was only hinted at by the mod. It is my GUESS that I'll appear as neutral, and there was only one (very vague) statement that hinted I'd come up as scum to a certain cop. Who knows, it might just be flavor I'm over-analyzing.
4. Waitwaitwait. You want me to give timestamps for the PM's I sent? When this sort of thing is modkillable in every mafia game under the sun? Are you new to this or trying to get me killed ASAP?
This isn't just OMGUS, if someone was twisting the words around this badly of someone, in addition to encouraging them to do mod-killable actions, in addition to voting fourth on a bandwagon when we're not even 50 posts in, even if that person wasn't me, I would surely vote for the aggressor. This is why I vote: RandomActs now.
2. PLEASE stop saying whether you feel that your ability is powerful or not based on your morphed state. Its too much like saying "I have a great ability if we can only get to night... I can detect scum!" in a regular game. You're just painting a target on yourself.
3. I don't know what to make of KCW's claim. [sarcasm]I'd like to thank him for making the *other* veteran in the game a target by claiming un-nightkillable on the first day[/sarcasm] In all seriousness, I would appreciate it if a benevolent doc who would remain nameless could keep ME safe tonight too. Please note I am asking as a veteran player, not necessarily a power role. If we unearth a power role, the doc should protect THAT player.
4. @ MOD- Can we get clarification on when morphed status ends? Is it at twilight? or at dawn?
5. I have an idea (please don't call it a cunning plan just yet). Can we get a vote on whether or not those players with restrictions/drawbacks come forward now to prevent odd claims tripping us up later? A simple "I agree/disagree that players with restrictions/drawbacks should come forward" will do. I don't want anyone blurting theirs out if they have one or saying they don't if they don't unless we agree to do so.
6. I think that KCW should name claim, as he has certainly jumped into the spotlight of his own volition.
I agree that players with drawbacks/restrictions should come forward.
Unvote. I was pretty sure that was a typo, but I wanted it to be cleared up. Also that third vote thing is WIFOM, argue it whichever way you want.
I was under the impression that quoting was a mod-kill offense, not telling timestamps.
I asked Vecna, and he said that both timestamps of PM and names of PM's are considered mod information and non-quotable, and as such I would be modkilled for doing it.
1. I'm only non-nightkillable IF I announce I am so. That's also not my only ability.
Once again, in doing so, you put the rest of the town at greater risk.

This shouldn't be against the rule. Stating the number of messages is not quoting the pm. And since the time stamp is not part of the actual message, that should be allowable as well. But if you're still unsure, let's ask. Is that ok with you?
WOLG, is it a violation of the rule to share the number of messages you sent as well as the time stamps?
And now there's this:
Quote from WOFG »

Assuming that the sounds correspond in order to the morphing members, there is something ninja about you. Is it safe to assume you're some kind of assassin?
Hah, I wish WOLG, but thank you for your quick response.
I will confirm what KCW has said.
Unfortunately I had to make an on-the-spot decision, without the consent of any of the council, and if this is overridden, ignore my ruling.
Timestamp, among with name and content of a PM is considered mod-quoting. Technically this is not illegal if a mod has not stated that modquoting is illegal. But, if you will note, rule 2 of the first post specifically states that quoting is instant-modkillable.
My reasoning:
Information gained by modquoting is generally the wording or text of a victory condition, which is why so many games outlaw it now. This is technically non-game information, and it only exists because the mod needed a concise way of informing the players of their status within the game. I call this metagaming, as it is technically not part of the game that is meant for analyzation. Similarly, asking for the number of PMs between a player and mod, or what time they occurred is metagaming. WHat you are attempting to do is possibly trip someone up through the use of information technically not meant for any use in the game. You must know, since you requested the timestamps, as well as I do that only one message may be sent per minute, and you were hoping (assuming you were hoping for him to be mafia) to trip him up into giving specific minutes, which you have a chance (albeit incredibly small) of having a PM of your own from that same minute. Even if you did not, another player might, or possibly you could find somehow that WOLG was not even online at the claimed time. All of this is clearly unrelated to the actual gameplay, and is thus not allowed.
If you have any issues with this ruling, bring it up with the council, or PM me your concerns directly, but do not post in this game. WOLG is free to punish you if you attempt to post metagaming arguments in the thread, as they are not constructive posts for the game whatsoever. (Also, I am technically only supposed to post for rules reasons in a game I am not in, so I don't want to spam you guys.)
Once again, in doing so, you put the rest of the town at greater risk.
How?
And that, unfortunately for you, makes you look scummy should you be investigated. (Which is why you probably mention it now to cover yourself)
So wait, being able to be investigated means that I'm scum?
Well it's my GUESS that a scum result on you would be totally accurate.
This shouldn't be against the rule. Stating the number of messages is not quoting the pm. And since the time stamp is not part of the actual message, that should be allowable as well. But if you're still unsure, let's ask. Is that ok with you?

I guess we have our answer to that, don't we?
Assuming that the sounds correspond in order to the morphing members, there is something ninja about you. Is it safe to assume you're some kind of assassin?
No offense, but are you high? Not only is that just descriptive of the sound made by morphing, all the power rangers are ninjas.
@MMoD- drawbacks include things such as: having a "chance" involved in your ability meaning it may not be under your control, having a posting restriction, anything that denies you a choice in your PM, having something that would make a cop incorrectly suspicious of you, etc.
A lover has the drawback of dying if their partner dies.
A miller has the drawback of being investigated as scum even though they are town.
An over eager vigilante is a townie who MUST kill each night.
Etc.
@KCW- Not all rangers are ninja. All ninja use martial arts, not all martial artists are ninja.
Allow me to be blunt at the risk of sounding a bit WIFOM.
I am not new to this game; in fact, I'd like to consider myself fairly good, this being my 5th game on the site and running my second one at Something Awful. If I was scum, there wouldn't be a chance in hell I'd make up this role, or play the way I am right now. Why? Because it's too, well, scummy. As I mentioned earlier, the mod designed the role (and with a little Wikipedia'ing, it fits with a little imagination) for me to get tons of heat for seeming scummy when I'm, in reality, a fairly powerful pro-town role. And guess what, it's working perfectly. I know that the last thing any mafioso should do is jump out in the middle of everything and say HEY GUYS LOOK AT ME LOOK AT MEEEEEE I'M RIGHT HERE GUYS GUYS, which is exactly what I'm doing here. The role is designed specifically so that I play a little off-balance the whole time, worried about the scummy tells I'm forced to give off, all the while trying to help the town. If a scum made a gambit like this, it would be the most retarded thing ever: they would attract the attention of the entire town ASAP, which is what I'm doing now.

Fine, fine.
I'm the... *sigh* Pink Ranger from Lost Galaxy. After my death, I want desperately to help the Power Rangers, and so I give my saberthingamabobber to Karone. Of course, this makes the rest of the Power Rangers a little worried about me. The explanation for the claiming thing is fairly simple: spirits can't be seen by most people, however, they can be permanently destroyed by Mythical Powers of Bad TV (can be nightkilled, can't be otherwise targetted). However, when I make myself known to the Power Rangers as the old Pink Ranger, they trust me and protect me from evil (can be targetted, can't be nightkilled). The loose interpretation of me "morphing" is appearing in ethereal form.
Yes, there are things I haven't told you, but that's what's important for right now.
10.
No Swearing.Minor swearing is ok, as long as it is not used towards a player and is used sparsely. (Read: THERE WILL BE NO: "F*c* you you f*c*ing scum-***!" But: "Damn, this sucks," or "bloody hell" are ok.) Remember kids, this is a mature game, no little kid first time swearing online stuff, you will be warned ONCE if you become offensive, anything further might get you banned from the forum.11.

He's scum for sure this time.
Also, post 1000 biatches.

I think that we shouldn't go "omg we roxx0rz when morphed". If you actually have good abilities it's painting targets. If you don't, well then thats lying to the town. If you're scum, then you might draw doc protection, which is bad for the town. I don't see how this benefits the town at all.
This contradicts what you said before doesn't it?
Before: If morph+claim --> unkillable, but targettable with other abilities.
Now: If morph+claim --> unkillable, and untargettable with other abilities.
Unvote, vote: KCW.
Everyone can morph. The flavour is that we're all power rangers, but some of us are traitors.
Oh. K, that's a dumb idea then. Also, KCW, that's a pretty boneheaded mistake. It also reeks of making something up in an attempt to clear yourself.
Non-joke FoS KCW
But is it honestly a fact that all of us can morph? If you think so, why is that?
That was a typo on my part. If morph+claim --> unkillable, but targettable with other abilities is correct.
I am also not comfortable with how quickly this bandwagon is moving. You seize upon a small mistake of mine to place the third vote in a 12-person game? I'm sure we all know that the third vote placed on a person is likely scum.
It was a typo. So yes, if that's what you mean by a boneheaded mistake.

More to come in a minute when I've collected my thoughts.
I was under the impression that quoting was a mod-kill offense, not telling timestamps.
I asked Vecna, and he said that both timestamps of PM and names of PM's are considered mod information and non-quotable, and as such I would be modkilled for doing it.
Once again, in doing so, you put the rest of the town at greater risk.
And that, unfortunately for you, makes you look scummy should you be investigated. (Which is why you probably mention it now to cover yourself)
WOLG, is it a violation of the rule to share the number of messages you sent as well as the time stamps?
And now there's this:
Assuming that the sounds correspond in order to the morphing members, there is something ninja about you. Is it safe to assume you're some kind of assassin?
Vecna's word is law.
Edit #2: Everything I say unless clearly related to the game is flavor. In a flavor aspect, all the sounds were made at once, not in any order.
Edit #3: WOLG, or Wolg please. MOD looks like MMoD to me. Things in red get my attention.

So wait, being able to be investigated means that I'm scum?
I guess we have our answer to that, don't we?
No offense, but are you high? Not only is that just descriptive of the sound made by morphing, all the power rangers are ninjas.
A lover has the drawback of dying if their partner dies.
A miller has the drawback of being investigated as scum even though they are town.
An over eager vigilante is a townie who MUST kill each night.
