21 new cards, hopefully we'll snag at least one good one. We'll probably be seeing a lot of tricolor cards in this set, would you add one if it's good enough to your cube? Are you playing tricolor cards now?
Here is the first one, which is probably not seeing play anywhere but Commander or larger cubes:
I wouldn't be suprised either way on getting a cube card or not. I'm going to buy all four of them just so I have all the planes and phenomena, but I wouldn't get overly excited by the decks themselves.
Some people run Edric; and Hornet Queen; but I cant think of any other Commandr cards that are run, out of fifty new cards.
Edric too, it's unlikely that Planechase 2 will have cards viable to a 500 or less powered cube. Tricolor cards can be a hit though for some cubes, and we're one step closer to a multicolor cube.

Did Planechase 1; have any new cards, or only reprints? I only rember reprinted cards..

PCH1 only had reprints. they weren't yet into designing new cards for casual play sets

I'm going to play this in my 540 if they print other good wedge cards, this one is just pure awesome and fun! And seems like nicol bolas power when cast. I could just imagine casting this guy and hitting a big fatty or two, and swinging in with the team. Just awesome.

This guy just reeks of magical Christmas land, but then again how bad can TWO free spells be? Hope that we see some new cards as powerful as him, and hopefully they are less than 6cmc.

You'll find out when you cast this dude all the time. He can be completely bonkers or utter crap, depending on what you hit with it. Same is kinda true with other cascade, but they're more appropriately costed up front. This card will undoubtedly be swingy and fun, and I think it's certainly the best card from the UGR wedge, for cubes that have a tri-color section.
This card provides a huge effect for 8 mana. The fact that it gives everything else haste means it might play out similarly to Rude Awakening. I am definitely looking forward to giving it a spin.
I wish it cascaded without actually casting the card. I can't use it in reanimator, which is a huge drawback on an 8CC creature. Cascading in blue at sorcery speed is kinda a drag too; it adds every counterspell to the list of potential blanks you can hit.
The card can certainly be good, but i seem to remember that Cascade gets better with lower manacost. A higher mancost adds to the randomness of the card and with cube decks being less consistent than constructed deck (duh) i feel like this guy is too random too often.
Yes and no. Cascade for 3 or less gets better the cheaper it is, because you can pinpoint cards and get the same reliable effect (See: Blightning, Cascade Swans for Seismic Assault, Hypergenesis, etc) After the 3-4 mana mark, the effect gets better the more it costs, because you can hit more expensive cards and thus net more free mana.
Ironically, 4 is probably the worst mana cost for cascade in a vacuum, yet Bloodbraid Elf was the best cascade card. That has more to do with a 3/2 hasted body being worth 4 mana anyway, meaning the cascade was free.
I would actually argue in a limited environment a high cascade is better, since you can get better cards. The low cascade cards are much better in dedicated decks (see the Restore Balance deck that has to be the dumbest thing I've seen), but you can't exactly draft that, so I'd rather have a chance to flip my Myr Battlesphere.
if you build your deck with it in mind, it's going to be a big hasty 3:1 the majority of the time. it's not that overcosted for the initial effect so regardless of what you cascade into it will likely be worth it. i think it definitely merits a test.
When I see Healing Salve, I'm often like "Oh girl, I wish I could turn every card into this." Thanks they removed the gain life part, otherwise this would have been broken.
Another card that proves that reading is tech. I thought it was quite bad, until someone wrote about cascading into two cards and I didn't understand what he meant. Then I looked at the card again and... wow, double cascade! Let's do it again. The global haste is nifty, I love that ability. Overall, three color and eight mana seems like a bit much though. At least for cube. On the other hand, this will be going 100% into my Animar Commander deck!
Did you notice that one deck is called "Night of the Ninja"? I was thinking only a few days ago: "Too bad that we probably will never see Ninjutsu again, because it is so heavily tied to a Japanese style setting." And now we will get more Ninjas! Wheeeee!

It's fun and exciting, I really want to add a wedge cycle into the cube, and this is the first card in RUG that I think could actually keep up. He's not good in a traditional cube sense. But I always consider tri color cards to be something you just splash the third color for because they are awesome and fun when cast (wild nacatl being the exception, he's just plain good).

Agreed. Splashing red for this in UG is probably not better than just playing Sphinx of Jwar Isle or whatever, but this is SO much cooler.

That is the basis for my cuts now. Ill play a card that is a little "worse" if its infinitely more interesting. I am tired of boring beaters.
