Hello everyone, after looking at a ton of decks in the Modern section, I noticed something - where is Victim of Night? Victim of Night hits a TON of stuff, right?
Gifts Rock, Death Cloud, Esper, etc. all run 2 CMC spot removal like Smother, Doom Blade, Go for the Throat.
If you are making a Gifts package for spot removal, why not VoN? I can only think of Grave Titan for zombies, and I sure as hell can't think of any werewolfs or vamps in modern.
Is the double black too much? Most of these decks have a strong black base...
smother is better. you won't always have BB on turn 2 and you don't need this in gifts packages because we have better options.

In life all we can do is try to make things better. Sitting lost in old ways and fearing change only makes us outdated and ignorant.
Peace cannot be kept by force. It can only be achieved by understanding.

Millions of innocent men, women and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burnt, tortured, fined and imprisoned; yet we have not advanced one inch towards uniformity.
This should find homes in 2-colour decks that can't use Path to Exile, like Dimir Teachings, BG Smallpox, or maybe Death Cloud.
Yeah, Bloodghast can't block, Tidehollow Sculler dies against Zoo, and no Werewolf is Modern-playable. This is one of the best Black removal spells we have seen in a while--too bad the BB mana cost is so restrictive.
Strangely the BB makes it terrible in Death Cloud. I would rather use Putrefy for the versatility.

In case I didn't tell you, I don't care about your opinion I just want your facts. And not the facts that make you seem smart. I want the ones that are actual facts.
Depends on your meta, if your meta is full of Dark Confidants and Phyrexian Obliterators that seems like a good call
Not necisarily a lot of black creatures, but most creatures are less than 3 cmc or not artifacts- as such I generally run Smother or Go for the Throat.

doom blade
Go for the throat
smother
dismember*
both the -3/-3 and -4/-4 cards (cannot remember the names)
of those cards victim of the night does not really make the cut
* this means that it could be for the same casting cost and is a black removal card.

You're probably thinking of Grasp of Darkness for -4/-4
