Magic's May 2012 set, code-named "Roll," is called Avacyn Restored. Although it's the third set of the Innistrad block, it will be a large set. This means that Innistrad Block Constructed will be composed of all three sets, but Avacyn Restored will be drafted by itself. Sealed events will use six Avacyn Restored booster packs.

Looks sweet. Loved when they did this with Zendikar block (ala Rise of the Eldrazi). Hopefully this will live up to its predecessor

You would think that they would have learned what happens with a standalone big set from what happened with ROE. Oh well. More new cards with sweet art and horror flavor.
Good news about this, finally Wizards isn't ending a story with the entire plane in chaos which we've seen in the last three story archs.
Also, do you think this will be like Rise where they reintroduce mechanics and toss out old ones or are they going to keep past mechanics this time around?

I don't post that often, but when I do, it looks like this.
Was getting worried about Sinker; this is the longest they've taken to announce the spring set in a while. Interesting, to say the least. Doubt they were having trouble convincing Brand that they could sell Horror for three sets like they did with Zendikar.
Hope they learned from the interblock synergy issues ROE had with Zendikar.
Colored me shocked to see the "third set is a large set" gimmick used again so soon. Not sure how I feel about it, but at least we know they learned from the mistakes of Rise.
I feel like I have no clue where this block is going in terms of actual mechanics.
Also, I have a feeling (and a hope) that that isn't the art for Avacyn. It's not epic enough.
I like it, though as said above I'm somewhat taken aback. INN has me really looking forward to DA. Hopefully the second set does the same for the third.
The effect could prove so discombobulating to combo players, in particularly, they may fizzle and run away screaming. "From that day the Curse of the Plateau was upon me, and I found every hand I ever pull from a combo deck is a mulligan."

1. They waited far longer to announce NPH.
2. I'm surprised they've told us so soon. Now we know how the story ends.
I really don't think...anyone saw this coming. After all the bitter/unhappy endings we've had...this set speaks to...I dunno, a HAPPY ending? Or at least a return to normalcy. Although this is fitting the normal plot of a horror movie very well-- Things look bad (Innistrad), Things look worse (Dark Ascension), and now...things get better.
Also, a large set? Hell yes! The last time they did this was with Rise of the Eldrazi, which is my favorite set. Amazing limited format? I sure hope.
3rd Set of Innistrad Block: Avacyn Restored
Some info on the set:
Holy crap its a big set...seriously 244 cards. WOW something big is going down here! (No pun intended...)
The symbol is obviously her collar
and the art associated with it is obviously her:
Edit: This was just announced by Maro on his twitter today:
"Just to clarify, Dark Ascension will have cool new Double Faced Cards in the set. Avacyn Restored Will have none.
Thanks Hero's of the Plane

On a more serious note, I really wasn't expecting this as the third set... I have no idea why but I was rather taken aback by this.
I don't really like the name. A character's name as the set name?

And then I was like, "Oh, shucks, I hope it'll be a better large 3rd than RoE..."
Then I was like, "...is it just me, or does that angel look like she's about to start a refrain of Judas?"
That said, I'm rather happy that we (might) get to leave a world in better shape than it started in.

I will agree with you there, evil can not always win lol.
Though in my opinion that angel looks pretty dark for an angel? Well Avecyn has to be a badass angel to just beat on people lol

Kinda.
This is a good point.
Dark Ascension is primed to have it's very own Tarmogoyf or JTMS
