The idea of this contest is to match a genre with a song that closely resembles it along with representing your clan! Its also much better to be original. The clan that has the most points wins!
Please submit song choices via PM to me. They should contain a youtube link for each song along with a warning if it contains anything that isn't good for a 13+ environment.

[House Dimir]
Genre: Hip-Hop Artist: Taj Song Title: "UB Trippin'" YouTube.com Link: Reasoning: If you ever find yourself at the end of a Dimir blade, and you think you'll live to tell the tale: UB Trippin'.
Genre: Rap Artist: Childish Gambino Song Title: "Assassins" YouTube.com Link: Reasoning: We are shadow Assassins roaming the forums, accepting contracts veiled in secrecy. Warning! This entry may contain offensive material.
Genre: Dubstep Artist: Bar9 Song Title: "Midnight" YouTube.com Link: Reasoning: We conduct a lot of business during the Midnight hours. Besides, the only thing more sinful than the drop in this song is us.
Genre: Alternative Artist: the Cranberries Song Title: "Zombie" YouTube.com Link: Reasoning: There are two types of people in the multiverse: those directly effected by our efforts, and those indirectly effected by our efforts. All are mere husks, nothing more than Zombies to use for our dark agenda.
Genre: Reggae Artist: Scientist Song Title: "Night of the Living Dead" YouTube.com Link: Reasoning: The age of [Dimir] is upon us. Today the shadows will overthrow all light. And tonight is the Night of the Living Dead. All hail [House Dimir]!
Genre: the [:symb: &] Blues Artist: Jace Everett Song Title: "Bad Things" YouTube.com Link: Reasoning: Shadows do more than just conceal our numbers. It is our greatest ally. When nonmembers gaze too deeply into them, Bad Things always tend to happen.
Genre: Jazz Artist: Louis Armstrong Song Title: "Black and Blue" YouTube.com Link: Reasoning: The colors of murder and deception run through our very viens. Those colors are what we call our own. Those colors, are Black and Blue.
Genre: Classic Rock Artist: Led Zeppelin Song Title: "No Quarter" YouTube.com Link: Reasoning: A morbid tune about death, often hummed by proud Dimir parents to little Dimirlings as they snuggle against a victims neck.
Genre: Heavy Metal Artist: Scar Symmetry Song Title: "Reborn" YouTube.com Link: Reasoning: There is no turning back after the mindcrush. You have been awaken into a new darkness of unlife. Reborn from the Mindcrush.
Genre: Country Artist: Teddy Thompson Song Title: "Psycho" YouTube.com Link: Reasoning: Murder and madness wrapped up in one dastardly dittie from Dixie. We embrace the name, Psycho, and wear it with pride.
Genre: Classical Artist: Camille Saint Saens Song Title: "Dance of the Macabre" YouTube.com Link: Reasoning: The undead rising and devouring a town for unknown reasons is the message this song tries to convey. Just another small step in our grand Dance of the Macabre.
Genre: Pop Artist: Michael Jackson Song Title: "Thriller" YouTube.com Link: Reasoning: Who better than the King of Pop to be our chosen artist to represent us for the "pop" category. And what better song than his timeless ode to the creatures of the night? We have always been those creatures.
Genre: Grunge Artist: Mad River Song Title: "River of Deciet" YouTube.com Link: Reasoning: It matters little if you can swim, our River of Deceit claims all who are curious.
Genre: Electro Artist: Daft Punk Song Title: "Derezzed" YouTube.com Link: Reasoning: To be Derezzed is to not only die, but to be distorted from existence. Which is exactly what happens to you for meddling in our affairs.
Genre: Disco Artist: Hot Blood Song Title: "Soul Dracula" YouTube.com Link: Reasoning: Even though Vampires have been using fire magic for some unexplained and nonsensacle reason, the founder of our clan was the most famous vampire of all. Throughout the planes and ages, he has gone by many names and many faces. Lestat. Vlad the Impaler. Szadek. Soul Dracula. Edward. Every incarnation more sinister than the first.
Genre: Rock and Roll Artist: Jumpin' Gene Simmons Song Title: "Haunted House" YouTube.com Link: Reasoning: Because we not only live in the House, but we helped create it.
The Anthem of [House Dimir] Artist: Creature Feature Song Title: "House of Myth" YouTube.com Link: Reasoning: This song is a warning to those who will ask questions. A brilliantly composed score completely personifying [House Dimir] in all manners which a song could. We are, quite simply, The House of Myth.
[The Crafters]
*** Ah, [The Crafters]. Did you know that less than a year ago, this clan was on the verge of collapse and closure? Back then, [The Crafters] were known as [ImageCrafters+] and mostly focused their attention on artwork, like where they could display their Pictures at an Exhibition, or their love of foodstuffs—especially baked goods like CAKE! Well, before this clan would be closed down, a particular Big Butter and Egg Man From the West known as Kankennon, decided that he wasn’t going to let that happen—he was Going the Distance! {Note: The band Cake and Kank are both from Sacramento. Coincidence?} Well, this Kank guy searched high and low throughout the humor and games threads trying to recruit every person he thought would be a good fit for the clan. Joining on at the last minute to keep the clan afloat was patredwood (now known as ThatRedwood, the brewmeister), Aurora Illumina (you might know her--She's Crafty), and Moss_Elemental (MTGS is definitely his Addiction). These fine folks joined with the holdouts Slavan K. Guiser, Zith, and Kankennon to form an all-new clan, [The Crafters]! Since then, the clan has exploded and taken on a whole plethora of new creative talents, from Syphon to Kronik, from pet snake to Wheat_Grinder and jomafro, and even our newest members pi-ratical and vligerdragon. Now this clan is Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger than ever before, and is the true Rebirth of Slick. At [The Crafters], It's a Great Day to Be Alive, simply because we were truly Born to Be Alive! This here clan of ours is more creative than ever before! We are now filled with authors and Paperback Writers, artists and musicians, chefs and bakers, you name it. If it’s anything creative, it falls into our territory. You know what, we’re going to bake a cake in celebration of a successful year, so grab a Spoonman and dish out some of that Sugar Sweet so we can have our cake and Eat It too! After that cake’s been ate and Them Belly Full (But We Hungry), we are then even more driven to create more, write more, and bake more—it just doesn’t stop! Sure, we spend a lot of time Goofin Around, but we do get stuff done, and sure, beauty and humor may be in the Eye of the Beholder, but anything, yes anything can be creative, tasty, funny, and/or beautiful when you live in a world of Pure Imagination!
We leave you with this parody written by our very own Syphon, to the tune of Still Alive by Jonathon Coulton (which came in a close second place in its category):
Our clan is a triumph. I'm making a note here: huge success. It's hard to overstate my satisfaction. We are the Crafters. We craft what we must, because we can. For the good of all of us, except the ones who are dead.
But there's no sense crying over every mistake We just keep on trying 'till we run out of cake Then Kankennon makes some more, and we'll have cake like before for the people who are still alive.
People like Mossy who is an elemental Or people like Aurora who always floats And folks like Slavan K. who is also known as Guiser As they craft it hurts because I am happy they do it.
Now look at Jomafro the hatpimp putting hats on everyone in sight In 2012 we'll craft even more than before Think of all the things we made for the people who are still alive.
Go ahead and leave us I think we prefer to craft some more Maybe you'll find someone else to craft with Maybe House Dimir That was a joke, ha-ha, fat chance
Anyway, this cake is great, it's so delicious and moist Look at me still talking when there's crafting to do When I look in the clans thread it makes me glad I'm not you
I have programs to run, there is crafting to be done for the Crafters who are still alive
Believe me, Kank is still alive Thatredwood is still alive Kronik and Wheat_Grinder are still alive While you're not crafting the Crafters will be still alive still alive
The audio and video are out of sync, but the song is still brilliant. We are the backdoor slam. We are the dust in other clans broom, we are the cracks in their ceiling, the thump they think they hear.
Tiger Rag is one of the first published "Jass" tracks, as the Called is the one of the original clans from pre-Salve days. Louie loved tearing this song up to show off; this is his possé playing a slow version.
Symbolic of the tenure of our clan, the trials & tribulations we've all faced both personally & together, & how far we've come down this road together.
Warning: Contains Country music which some might find offensive.
1001 nights is objectively a story about passion, creativity, & tenacity, just like us; this particular piece is about a prince choosing to wander the Earth rather than sit in a lofty tower.
Warning: Contains Classical music which some might find offensive.
Rumor has it the songs on this album are all supposed to be from the perspective of various mental patients. This one is about obsessing, taking risks, & being wildly passionate about doing what you want to do.
The flavor of our clan involves a progression of ranks: High Mages oversee Acolytes who oversee Apprentices who oversee Test Subject (aka new members). We keep up the impression of an Izzet experimental laboratory, complete with exploding :cookie:'s and sneaky :sneakybread:. The Weirds do the menial work.
We're always in for new members and fun. Our colors are Blue and Red, and we fly them proudly. We are thinkers and dreamers. We stop what we don't want to happen, and burn down the rest, sometimes singeing ourselves in the process. We don't mind. Its all in the name of progress.
1) Hip-Hop:Love the Way you Lie (Part 2) -- Rihanna ft. Eminem http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2B50RUXbs-8
Beautiful song about an ugly relationship. Chosen for the verse line about "Just gonna stand there and watch me burn..." Also notice, not the Radio version. This is a Rihanna song, with a splash of Eminem.
2) Rap:White and Nerdy -- "Weird Al" Yankovic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9qYF9DZPdw
Eh, look around. Where are we again? Also many of the activities described in the lyrics fit.
5) Reggae:STOP IT -- Red Dragon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WF2CyLRdcQE
"Permission" spells are blue, artist goes by "Red Dragon", and video game samples are mixed in: what's not to love?
7) Jazz:Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea -- Louis Armstrong http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ue9jgShMOz8
Satchmo cannot be denied!! And the title is :evillol:color-evocative.:crying:
10) Country:Standing Outside the Fire (Live Version) -- Garth Brooks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOQzqX1Ehok
Inspirational song, awesome message, and very, very Izzet way of thinking.
Edit: One more question. Can we give a song a creativity bonus even if it doesn't fit the genre? There is a certain totally not hip-hop song that is totally awesome.

No you cannot, because the challenge is to match the genre as well as being creative! They should have submitted it as the correct genre
Apologies beforehand about double post but I feel people need to see this.
I have received concerned PM's and decided to change the way of submitting judging.
Every clan must PM me their judging and when I have received all of them I will announce that all the clan reps may post them in here. You may not change any of your judging that you PMed me.
I have realized that my contest will decide COTY and people get dirty when they want to win some silly trophy. I find it sad but its the way of life.

Top 3
1) House Dimir w/26
2) Crafters w/25
3) Family/Called ties w/24 each, too close to separate since the Called's entry was very original, but the Family's entry was all very "on clan" (If it matters, give it to the Called because some of my clan liked some of their songs more for originality.)

Point totals... Oh dear. This was not by design! Tiebreaks by number of high mark runner-ups I guess?
Points by category. kpaca did nice write-ups for hip-hop & rap, but the rest were left dangling. I've done a quick point-up but unfortunately, left little comment unless the genre was wonky.
/2011!
Hip Hop:
Dimir: 0, this is R&B at best
Crafters: 3, the bonus came down to Crafters or CMB. While I
thoroughly enjoyed CMB's entry, I feel as if its representation of the
clan was rather linear. The overall title and theme of the song fit,
but lyrically the song did not represent the clan as thoroughly as the
Crafters submission did their clan. As such the crafters received
this bonus.
The Family: 0. This would have been a perfect submission for teh rap
portion, but sadly not for Hip-Hop......

[The Family] win the tie break by virture of having more +3's
Crafters:
Hip-Hop: [House Dimir] - 1 : I get the UB part, but other than that it seems way out of tone with Dimir ideals. [Called] - 1 : Band name fits well, I think this would have got the two if a different song of theirs was chosen. [CMB] - 1 : Fits the genre, I'm missing the clan connection. [Family] - 3 : Hits on genre and subject matter. [Izzet] - 1 : One lyric doesn't pull the song through for me, seems like more of a Dimir song overall.
Rap: [House Dimir] - 1 : This was a close second, fits the clan really well. [Called] - 1 : I don't see with rigor mortis fits in, simple murder would make more sense. [CMB] - 1 : Good submission. This genre needed great though. [Family] - 1 : I don't see it, fits the genre though. [Izzet] - 3 : A clan of nerds on a nerd site with a nerd rap? Take it away.
Dubstep: Dimir really nailed this one to have a perfect sound for they're clan. Kudos to Izzet and the Family. Dimir - 3 CMB - 1 Called - 1 Family - 1 Izzet – 1
Alternative Rock: [House Dimir] - 3 : Whoa. Nailed it, lyrics scream Dimir. Gonna take something strong to sneak a point past this. [Called] - 1 : Seems topical. Just not up with Dimir's submission on this one. [CMB] - 0 : I've only ever heard Massive Attack called trip-hop and it fits the styling of other trip-hop bands. [Family] - 1 : As ruthless as that deer is, it isn't enough to pull up to the top. [Izzet] - 1 : I don't see the Izzet connection I'm looking for here.
Reggae: [House Dimir] - 1 : An alright choice, but it had to deal with some excellent submissions. [Called] - 3 : This is about as primal as the smooth relaxing sounds of raggae can be. [CMB] - 1 : Interesting song, but not up to par with submissions from the [Called] or [The Family]. [The Family] - 1 : Close match with the [Called]! In the end I could only give the bonus to one. So here we stand. [The Izzet] - 1 : This song confuses me. Maybe that is par for the course for those outside of [The Izzet]. Don't fret though, you got the genre point!
Blues: [House Dimir] +0 [Called] +3 [CMB] +1 [The Family] +1 [The Izzet] +1 Although The Family went for a great atmospheric song, I liked Robert Cray's song from the Called just that bit more. I had a feeling The Izzet just went for a well known song that from the title just had a connection to them, (but the song is totally not about anything the Izzet stands for). CMB's song just wasn't my personal favorite, and Dimir's song was in my opinion more country than blues.
Jazz: [House Dimir] +1 [Called] +1 [CMB] +0 [The Family] +1 [The Izzet] +3 It's no surprise Louis Armstrong was a favorite among the clans, with four out of the six choosing a song sung by him. No suprise either that I chose a song by Louie as the best. The Izzet's song was both the most pleasant to listen to and one which did have a real connection to the clan. The Izzet as a guild is often one split between the devil (craziness, trying the weirdest experiments) and the deep blue sea (science). I really tried to love CMB's entry, I really did, but I just couldn't see enough of that 'jazz fusion' in the song to really give it a point.
Classic Rock: Dimir: No Quarter - Led Zeppelin +3 The Called: Voodoo Child - Hendrix +1 CMB: I'm Movin' On - John Kay +1 The Family: Hell's Bells - AC/DC +1 The Izzet: Helter Skelter - The Beatles +1 This was really close between House Dimir and The Family. It was hard to make a final decision, but the overall tone of Led Zeppelin made that a better fit (the loud vocals of AC/DC made this not as "mysterious" as I'd expect from the Mafia).
Heavy Metal: CMB takes this one. It fits the clan just a tick better than the rest of the songs fit the other clans. This was a close race though. CMB - 3 Called - 1 Family - 1 Izzet - 1 Dimir - 1
Country: Dimir: 3 (I think this was the best choice they could have made and their reasoning was good) Called: 1 (I think they chose a good song, but I think another clan chose better) CMB: 1 (they chose a song, so I can't give them 0, but they don't give any explanation of why, so I can't give them the top score) The Family: 1 (same reason as CMB) Izzet: 1 (the fire connection is good, but I think another clan chose better)
Classical: Dimir: Danse Macabre - Saint-Saens +3 The Called: Scheherazade - R-K +1 CMB: Death Waltz - John Stump +0 The Family: The Mountain - Grieg +1 The Izzet: The Sorcerer's Apprentice - Paul Dukas +1 Before the song submissions were revealed, I had made a prediction that Dimir would pick The Aquarium... and I got the right composer, at least. Danse Macabre just felt like a really great fit, both in name and musical feel for the House Dimir. Death Waltz is not classical, so I can't give points here even if I like the piece.
Pop: Dimir: Thriller - Michael Jackson +1 The Called: - Psycho Killer - Talking Heads +1 CMB: Every Teardrop is a Waterfall - Coldplay +1 The Family: Somebody's Watching Me - Rockwell +3 The Izzet: Hot N Cold - Katy Perry +1 Thriller was really close (who doesn't like dancing zombies?), but I felt that Somebody's Watching Me fit quite well, from what I know about Mafia. This was a hard decision, but I felt like I preferred the Rockwell song for this contest.
Grunge: The Called was the only group to really stand out for this genre. Izzet was runner-up. Called - 3 CMB - 1 Dimir - 1 Family - 1 Izzet – 1
Electro: [House Dimir] +1 [Called] +1 [CMB] +3 [The Family] +1 [The Izzet] +1 Each clan went for a completely different style of electro, from Japanese electro by the Family to techno by the Called to just noise from the Izzet. Some of them I liked more than others, I'm more a fan of the electro stemming from boogie and disco than the really loud hardcore. Eventually I went for Clan Mono-Black's song, both because it's a great epic song and because it fits the clan well (Maybe because it's epic? ).
Disco: [House Dimir] +1 [Called] +0 [CMB] +0 [The Family] +3 [The Izzet] +1 Disco is a great genre, maybe one of the best. When I talk about Disco, I mean the music based on funk among others, the music that had its heydays in the 1970s. The Izzet's EWF song was already a bit too much Soul to really call it Disco IMO, but CMB's and the Called's songs weren't even real disco. Although I loved Dimir's submission, the top points I have to give to The Family. Although the Family is a clan based on the mafia family, and the song isn't about that, I saw it in a different light. Those in the Family are also bonded and thereby family through mafia, just like Sister Sledge is bonded by music.
Rock and Roll: [House Dimir] - 1 : Fitting. How have never heard this little ditty before? [Called] - 1 : Good choice. Real good, [The Izzet] squeaked by on this one. [CMB] - 1 : Solid, not quite up with [Called] or [The Izzet]. [The Family] - 1 : Good choice, not great. Moving on. [The Izzet] - 3 : Mind rattling, will breaking, and fireballs. Seems about right.
Clan Theme Song: Dimir and Called both had good themes, but in the end I preferred Dimir. Dimir - 3 Called - 1 Izzet - 1 CMB - 1 Family - 1
1st Place: House Dimir: 28 points 2nd/3rd place tie: Family/Izzet with 23 points each
A coin flip has determined that 2nd place is The Family and third is The Izzet.
Family:
I could wait a little more, but it would be unethical and the clan isn't very active right now.

An unexpected ending... still, only having points for the top three in each judging set? Would it have been more proper just to do the full math entirely (taking every single score into account), or is there something I'm missing here?
pink's whim. It's my preference to have the whole shebang spelled out before a contest is approved, but we were kind of rushing to get six in before the end of the year.
Does doing the long math change the result?
I'm curious now, but lazy.
eds – not so lazy as I thought.
straight scoring as approved by the Council when this contest was proposed gives the Izzet a 1 point win, with the top 4 separated by single points.
Now there's the thing... it always feels bad to take a first place away from someone and give it to someone else.
There was a bit of a similar thing that happened with the Cryptic Crossword, but as it was pointed out that time didn't matter (it was a debate about who finished first), I ended up giving a first place to both. But since this is something where there shouldn't be a tie for first place, it's hard to say what to do here...
I clearly outlined on the second post of this thread that it was to be done in top 3 order, like medals at the olympics.
I haven't changed anything and that post was there for a LONG time, and I would have thought that if there was concerns about my way of scoring, I would have got a PM about it. I got PMs about other stuff during judging but no complaints about this from clans OR the council.
I'm sticking by what I said WEEKS ago. Sorry Illuminations but it was posted.
Point system:
If it does:
+1 The song fits genre
+2 Bonus best/most creative submission for that genre (one Clan per genre)
-1 Duplicate entries (duplicate would be the same song by the same artist that another clan submitted, therefore you could submit a different song by the same artist OR a cover by another band and it would be all good)

[The Crafters]
Ah, [The Crafters].
{Note: The band Cake and Kank are both from Sacramento. Coincidence?}
Well, this Kank guy searched high and low throughout the humor and games threads trying to recruit every person he thought would be a good fit for the clan.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake
We just keep on trying 'till we run out of cake
Then Kankennon makes some more,
and we'll have cake like before
for the people who are still alive.
People like Mossy
who is an elemental
Or people like Aurora
who always floats
And folks like Slavan K.
who is also known as Guiser
As they craft it hurts because I am happy they do it.
Now look at Jomafro the hatpimp
putting hats on everyone in sight
In 2012 we'll craft
even more than before
Think of all the things we made
for the people who are still alive.
Go ahead and leave us
I think we prefer to craft some more
Maybe you'll find someone else to craft with
Maybe House Dimir
That was a joke, ha-ha, fat chance
Anyway, this cake is great,
it's so delicious and moist
Look at me still talking
when there's crafting to do
When I look in the clans thread
it makes me glad I'm not you
I have programs to run,
there is crafting to be done
for the Crafters who are still alive
Believe me,
Kank is still alive
Thatredwood is
still alive
Kronik and Wheat_Grinder are
still alive
While you're not crafting
the Crafters will be still alive
still alive

The Killers – Leave the Bourbon on the Shelf http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjHnk4vO8Zo

Jazz
Louis Armstrong – Tiger Rag http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJ0YNaK5tAU
Tiger Rag is one of the first published "Jass" tracks, as the Called is the one of the original clans from pre-Salve days. Louie loved tearing this song up to show off; this is his possé playing a slow version.

We're always in for new members and fun. Our colors are Blue and Red, and we fly them proudly. We are thinkers and dreamers. We stop what we don't want to happen, and burn down the rest, sometimes singeing ourselves in the process. We don't mind. Its all in the name of progress.
1) Hip-Hop: Love the Way you Lie (Part 2) -- Rihanna ft. Eminem
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2B50RUXbs-8
Beautiful song about an ugly relationship. Chosen for the verse line about "Just gonna stand there and watch me burn..." Also notice, not the Radio version. This is a Rihanna song, with a splash of Eminem.
2) Rap: White and Nerdy -- "Weird Al" Yankovic

All of the judging:
Dimir:
+1 for the following: [Crafters], [called], :symb:, [Family],

The [Family] certainly has this category in their crosshairs. Representing their clan well, and fitting the genre entirely.

+2 for the best:
:symur:'s entry not only undoubtedly represents the majority of their clan, but probably the majority MtGSalvation.com.
Dubstep

Sickness. Infectious. Dirty, but not over the top like a lot of dub. This is what dubstep sounds like.
Alternative Rock
+1 to the follow: [Crafters], [called], :symb:, [Family],
+2 for the best: [Crafters]
Because everyone loves Cake.
Reggae

No one can out play Stevie Ray. Greatest blues musician to come along in the last fourty years. All votes went to the entry.
Jazz
+1 for the following: [Crafters], [called], [Family],
+2 for the best: [called]
The reasoning alone made us choose the [called]s entry.
Classic Rock
+1 for the following: [Crafters], [called], :symb:, [family],
+2 for the best: [Crafters]
Arguably one of the greatest songs of all time. The Izzet's entry lost by one vote. So as a whole, we think the Beatles are tops.
Heavy Metal

+2 for the best: [Crafters]

Although a bit [Soundtrack]y, this was our favorite electro song, save our own.

+2 for the best: [Family]

Clan Anthem
+1 for the following: [Crafters], [called], [Family],
+2 for the best: [called]

Crafters:
[House Dimir] - 1 : I get the UB part, but other than that it seems way out of tone with Dimir ideals.
Rap:
[House Dimir] - 1 : This was a close second, fits the clan really well.
Dubstep:
Dimir really nailed this one to have a perfect sound for they're clan. Kudos to Izzet and the Family.

Alternative Rock:
[House Dimir] - 3 : Whoa.
Reggae:
[House Dimir] - 1 : An alright choice, but it had to deal with some excellent submissions.

Although The Family went for a great atmospheric song, I liked Robert Cray's song from the Called just that bit more. I had a feeling The Izzet just went for a well known song that from the title just had a connection to them, (but the song is totally not about anything the Izzet stands for). CMB's song just wasn't my personal favorite, and Dimir's song was in my opinion more country than blues.
Jazz:

It's no surprise Louis Armstrong was a favorite among the clans, with four out of the six choosing a song sung by him.
Classic Rock:
Dimir: No Quarter - Led Zeppelin +3
The Called: Voodoo Child - Hendrix +1
CMB: I'm Movin' On - John Kay +1
The Family: Hell's Bells - AC/DC +1
The Izzet: Helter Skelter - The Beatles +1
This was really close between House Dimir and The Family. It was hard to make a final decision, but the overall tone of Led Zeppelin made that a better fit (the loud vocals of AC/DC made this not as "mysterious" as I'd expect from the Mafia).
Heavy Metal:
CMB takes this one. It fits the clan just a tick better than the rest of the songs fit the other clans. This was a close race though.

The Called: Scheherazade - R-K +1
CMB: Death Waltz - John Stump +0
The Family: The Mountain - Grieg +1
The Izzet: The Sorcerer's Apprentice - Paul Dukas +1
Before the song submissions were revealed, I had made a prediction that Dimir would pick The Aquarium... and I got the right composer, at least. Danse Macabre just felt like a really great fit, both in name and musical feel for the House Dimir.
Death Waltz is not classical, so I can't give points here even if I like the piece.
Pop:
Dimir: Thriller - Michael Jackson +1
The Called: - Psycho Killer - Talking Heads +1
CMB: Every Teardrop is a Waterfall - Coldplay +1
The Family: Somebody's Watching Me - Rockwell +3
The Izzet: Hot N Cold - Katy Perry +1
Thriller was really close (who doesn't like dancing zombies?), but I felt that Somebody's Watching Me fit quite well, from what I know about Mafia. This was a hard decision, but I felt like I preferred the Rockwell song for this contest.
Grunge:
The Called was the only group to really stand out for this genre. Izzet was runner-up.
Called - 3
CMB - 1
Dimir - 1
Family - 1
Izzet – 1
Electro:
[House Dimir] +1
[Called] +1
[CMB] +3
[The Family] +1
[The Izzet] +1
Each clan went for a completely different style of electro, from Japanese electro by the Family to techno by the Called to just noise from the Izzet. Some of them I liked more than others, I'm more a fan of the electro stemming from boogie and disco than the really loud hardcore. Eventually I went for Clan Mono-Black's song, both because it's a great epic song and because it fits the clan well (Maybe because it's epic? ).
Disco:
[House Dimir] +1
[Called] +0
[CMB] +0
[The Family] +3
[The Izzet] +1
Disco is a great genre, maybe one of the best.
Rock and Roll:
[House Dimir] - 1 : Fitting.
Clan Theme Song:
Dimir and Called both had good themes, but in the end I preferred Dimir.
Dimir - 3
Called - 1
Izzet - 1
CMB - 1
Family - 1
1st Place: House Dimir: 28 points
2nd/3rd place tie: Family/Izzet with 23 points each
A coin flip has determined that 2nd place is The Family and third is The Izzet.

Disco
- House Dimir: +1
- Crafters: +3, out of sheer patriotism.
- Called: 0, just because it has synths does not mean it's disco.
- Clan Mono Black: 0, just because it has disco in the name and the singing is cheesy, does not mean it's disco.
- Izzet: +1

BEFORE I GET COMPLAINTS, I let clans decide tie breaks any way they found correct, as if you wanted to rig your top 3 it wasn't very difficult to.
Again thanks to everyone and I'll soon be making a post with my own thoughts about the contest.
LOL
I need to check the CotY standings again. . . brb
lighting eds – came down to 1 point! Family still hold it, though. Well done dudes!

Does doing the long math change the result?
I'm curious now, but lazy.
eds – not so lazy as I thought.
straight scoring as approved by the Council when this contest was proposed gives the Izzet a 1 point win, with the top 4 separated by single points.
1) Izzet: 25 + 23 + 25 + 26 + 23 = 122
2) Family 23 + 26 + 24 + 25 + 23 = 121
3) Crafters: 27 + 24 + 25 + 21 + 23 = 120
4) House Dimir: 24 + 28 + 26 + 23 + 18 = 119
5) Called: 19 + 24 + 24 + 25 + 22 = 114
6) CMB: 14 + 19 + 13 + 17 + 17 = 80
Contest would result in Izzet taking the points the Family needs to beat out Crafters & Dimir, Crafters take CotY.
ensue drama

What a year
There was a bit of a similar thing that happened with the Cryptic Crossword, but as it was pointed out that time didn't matter (it was a debate about who finished first), I ended up giving a first place to both. But since this is something where there shouldn't be a tie for first place, it's hard to say what to do here...

LOL
