0. Ignorance is not an excuse. Know these rules and do not break them.
1. Bold your votes and unvotes please, this makes it easier for your moderator. They should look like this: Vote loran16.
2. If you are unvoting, please write Unvote loran16 rather than just Unvote as this makes the vote counts easier and more accurate.
3. Any votes or unvotes not in bold will not be counted.
4. Do not communicate at night or day unless your role PM says otherwise.
5. Do not quote PMs or you will be modkilled. You may discuss the flavor and paraphrase it in your own words, but do not quote any PMs. This is your only warning. No Seriously, I will Modkill you
6. Unvote before casting a new vote. Failure to unvote may result in the vote not being counted.
7. You may Vote: No Lynch, and a majority of these votes will end the day without a death.
8. Please do not edit or delete your posts no matter how stupid a mistake you made. This will get you modkilled. This is your only warning.
9. Once you’re dead, you’re dead, so stop posting please. A single ‘bah’ post is permissible.
10. Even after you are dead, please refrain from discussing the game or your role with anyone, even other players who have also been eliminated. If you have any questions about this rule, please ask.
11. If you anticipate being unavailable for more than a 72-hour period, please post a notice to that effect in the thread. Otherwise, you may be prodded or replaced.
12. If you have a night choice to make, it is due by the posted deadline. The game will not wait for you – if you do not submit a choice in time, tough! No choice will be made.
13. Lynches will require a simple majority of votes. Once a player has reached the necessary majority, his pleas are useless and any attempts to unvote will go unheeded.
14. If you are requesting a mod prod or vote count, please bold your request so that your moderator can see it more clearly.
15. In order to keep this game moving, everyone is expected to post at least once every two to three days and if you don't, you may be replaced or modkilled WITHOUT WARNING, whatever your side.
16. In the event of a Day ending with a deadline instead of a lynch, No Lynch will occur.
17. The Town Win Condition is: *To be revealed in game thread*
18. HAVE FUN. This is not optional.
19. Lastly and most importantly: Respect us and the rest of the players; your moderator hopes to not have to modkill anyone.
Hi Blue. It looks like this is your first game as scum, seeing how you made the most stereotypical first-time-mafioso's-first-game-post imaginable. Don't blame yourself though, you had no way to know that.
Umm, pardon me?

Thank you, Mr. Snake. You seem to think my post was worth reacting to, could you please explain why?
Because when a player asks in their first post why we random vote, or how we are going to find scum, or stresses they are new, it turns out they are newb scum a significant amount of times. You did all three.
Pardon me for being blunt, Mr. Snake, but you're simply wrong. ^^
Could be. I think that scum are very slightly more likely to make it a point that they aren't going to participate in RVS. It's like... trying to act too serious/townie.
Not feeling the suspicion on BlueElectric, her post felt more "eager" than "scum". I'd rather watch her a bit longer.

Well no, there isn't (or rather, there wasn't) something else. Is a lack of answer to this question really something to get flustered about?
Also, why did your attitude change so suddenly? And why are you roleplaying as a ten year old?
I disliked your weak, opportunistic vote on me, Mr. Snake. That's hardly being flustered.

By the way, you being new does not mean I'm a bad person for voting you. Your alignment and your level of experience are unrelated (though your level of experience does make your alignment easier to guess).
So I feigned inexperience and you pounced on it like a kitty? Good to know. ^^ Hey everyone, based on this information and Mr. Snake's defensiveness in this post, do you think he is a good guy or a bad guy?
Mister Wuffs, if you had read my post where I voted for Mister Snake, you would be aware of my reasoning for voting him. ^^ "OMGUS", as you put it, is not something that can be applied to the situation here as my motives for voting Mister Snake are because of his opportunism in an attempt to attack a seemingly inexperienced player and going for what he perceived to be an easy lynch, as well as attempting to determine two other players' alignments without explaining why.
Let me ask you something, Mister Wuffs. If I had reacted in this way to Mister Snake voting for somebody else in this exact manner, would you feel your "OMGUS" declaration would hold any validity? Why are you so easily apt to dismiss my vote as an emotional reaction? Had Mister Snake attacked somebody else, would my points hold any less validity? Mister Snake seems to be an experienced player based on the information in his signature, has it not crossed your mind that he should be more easily apt to determine whether a newer player is simply making mistakes based on inexperience instead of based on alignment?
So I feigned inexperience and you pounced on it like a kitty? Good to know. ^^ Hey everyone, based on this information and Mr. Snake's defensiveness in this post, do you think he is a good guy or a bad guy?
Based on the sole two examples you have posted so far, I would say he is still neutral. While he is being defensive, that in and of itself is not a sign of scum. The fact though that he is calling you out asking about RVS when at the time you showed all the signs of being a newb is opportunistic.
@ZDS: Please show me an example of a newb asking about RVS popping scum, I also ask that you try to find a game where newb asking about RVS flips town.
Does Mr. Yanni usually post a lot? Do his posts say something like mine do or all they all like Mr. Floyd's?
So I feigned inexperience and you pounced on it like a kitty? Good to know. ^^ Hey everyone, based on this information and Mr. Snake's defensiveness in this post, do you think he is a good guy or a bad guy?
If I understand you right, in your first posts, you were feigning inexperience? Why?
To answer your question, I don't have much of a read on him yet, but leaning slightly town. ZDS is a strong player as scum and I don't see him jumping on a weak target like that right out of the gate (unless you're his buddy, but I don't get that vibe).
I've just been in a pissed off mood the past days because my arm is acting up and I'm in incredible pain.
unvote because it seems RVS is over
Well, I would TOTALLY know, Mr. Pink. I have three of them currently wandering around my ninth-floor white-collar office (they're so curte a fluffy and adorable <3). I'm going to put one on a leash and frolic with it through the streets of wellington city (the capital of New Zealand) later.
And, better a sheep on a leash than a platypus on a chain, Mister Pinky.
Mister Wuffs, if you had read my post where I voted for Mister Snake, you would be aware of my reasoning for voting him.
Miss Blue, from what I see here, your reason for voting him is because you perceived his voting of you as bullying a newer player, but the thing is, that he cited a (from what I can see) valid meta argument for his vote.
You seem to have taken his vote the wrong way; he saw a scum tell and voted you for it. It's as good as any reason at the start of the game - we have zero information to go on, Miss Blue.
^^ "OMGUS", as you put it, is not something that can be applied to the situation here as my motives for voting Mister Snake are because of his opportunism in an attempt to attack a seemingly inexperienced player and going for what he perceived to be an easy lynch...
I seriously doubt he was thinking in terms of a lynch. That's over-dramaticising the situation, Miss Blue. He voted you, yes, but if he was thinking far enough ahead to believe you to be a valid lynch candidate over this, then I will lynch him myself for a thorough lack of analysis. I don't want to put words in his mouth, but this is my perception of his reason for voting. He wanted to pressure you into explaining why you exhibited what he believes is a valid scumtell on newer scum players. Legitimate scumtell? Maybe, maybe not. A good enough reason to vote someone at the start of the game? Sure, why not. It's a crapshoot at this stage of the game anyways.
as well as attempting to determine two other players' alignments without explaining why.
That, my dear blue, is either a joke or a breadcrumb. It's probably not a breadcrumb, but either way, you should not even have mentioned it. I think that it's obvious enough to be irrelevant.
Assuming that the same justification for the vote was applied, then, yes, I don't believe you would have voted him. Your vote still seems like it is more of a shocked reaction to being voted. You vote him because he voted you. You try to dress it up with looking for darker motivations, but...I don't see what ZDS did as scummy. He asked the question, and pressed the issue by voting you. You then voted him.
Mister Snake seems to be an experienced player based on the information in his signature, has it not crossed your mind that he should be more easily apt to determine whether a newer player is simply making mistakes based on inexperience instead of based on alignment?
I completely agree, ZDS is an experienced Mafia player - I read his first ever game, back in 2006-2007ish. (as, coincidentally, my twin brother was in it, also for the first time). It's for that very reason that I believe that this was not an attempt to actually incriminate you. It was a question posed to a newer player to test the waters, yes. Clearly, he's trying this meta argument on to see if it sticks, Ms. Blue, but if he were trying to lynch you, trust me, you will know about it.
Look at his motivation for doing so. It's a non-tell. He could be either scum pressuring a newbie or town pressuring a newbie. It's alignment-neutral.
If I understand you right, in your first posts, you were feigning inexperience? Why?

Yes, I've been around the Mafia block a few times in my days, Mister Squeege. I feigned inexperience to bait any members of the mafia who were looking to attack an easy target into pouncing, and lo and behold, Mister Snake fell for it like a textbook example! ^^ Have you played in any other games with Mister Snake or have you just read along? Can you explain to me how Mister Snake's town game differs from his mafia game? Or are you just chumming it up with him because he called you town?

Mister Wuffs, are you making fun of the way that I speak?

My reason for voting for Mister Snake was fairly straightforward, I felt. It was not because I felt bullied, but rather that it seemed opportunistic. You say he used a valid metagame citation, yet I only see Mister Snake having said that it was fact; there is in fact, no citation. Have you been in a game where this ("this" being a player asking about random votes and how to catch the bad guys in a game's opening being mafia-aligned) has happened? If so, I may find your argument to be more persuasive. If not, however, I question why you are so strongly associating yourself with Mister Snake.

Mister Wuffs, do you sincerely believe that an experienced player such as Mister Snake would place a vote on me to gauge my reaction and then not unvote me afterwards? His vote seemed confident, and am I wrong in assuming that more experienced players attempt to pick up on things to lynch people over earlier in the game? Moreover, Mister Snake is continuing to push suspicion on me, and I feel like that in and of itself should be indication enough that he has every intention of seeing me lynched.
"That, my dear blue, is either a joke or a breadcrumb. It's probably not a breadcrumb, but either way, you should not even have mentioned it. I think that it's obvious enough to be irrelevant."

Then you are incorrect, as I can assure you that the fact that I was voted had nothing to do with where I placed my own vote. ^^ In regards to my attack on Mister Snake, why did you choose the phrase "dress it up"? You say that as though you don't believe that this is what I perceive Mister Snake's motives to be. Are you clairvoyant, Mister Wuffs? Are you of some authority that you can tell me what Mister Snake's intentions are? Because if so, then the only way that would make sense is if you are either Masons together (which I doubt, due to Mister Snake's opportunism), or you are both mafia. If you could clarify if either of these statements are true for me, Mister Wuffs?

Firstly, Mister Snake did not ask me a question, mister; he stated that I clearly had to be mafia-aligned due to my inquisition regarding the random votes and has not removed his vote since. I was the one who asked Mister Snake the questions. If you don't believe it was an attempt to incriminate me, why would he continue to direct suspicion towards me? Unless you feel that Mister Snake was applying a more general behavioral trait of mafia-aligned players to me, in which case, I must stress once again that he did not provide a citation of this nature; he merely stated it as a fact. However, if you can provide an example of this happening in a game you played in before Mister Snake can, it may reduce my suspicions of you for so avidly defending Mister Snake.

I said your vote was OMGUS; you said it wasn't and gave reasons; I attempted to refute those reasons. To do so, I had to resort to trying to see things from ZDS' perspective.
Look at it this way, Electric blue. (oh, wow, I thought I was the only one left on the internet who knows about electric light orchestra! Excellent taste in music you have there, BE)
From ZDS' perspective, why would he vote you at this stage of the game?
Because he believes that in a meta assertion regarding newer players.
I have no right to disagree with his assertion because I haven't played mafia since early 2009, and things may have changed since then.
At least, it would have started this way. Then, you got all defensive and called him scum for opportunistically exploiting a new player.
Well, if I were him, I'd leave MY vote on you and see what other reactions he can get from you.
It's a pity I didn't think of this first Oh well, I'm pretty rusty.
Plus, I acknowledge some of my rejoinders there in my last post did not make much sense. This is what I get for trying to use my 30-second pauses between calls to trying to make a valid mindset call.
This is not me putting words in ZDS' mouth, mind you, merely my attempts to look at it from his perspective. In mafia, I am trying to become a student of studying motivations, rather than arguments. I still need to work on that a bit more.
(And no, I'm not mocking you, I just happen to know that your posting style annoys a certain individual that mentioned sheep not long ago. He's australian, I'm a kiwi, don't expect any love lost there - also, bringing real life baggage into mafia is no excuse for his posting style)
I said your vote was OMGUS; you said it wasn't and gave reasons; I attempted to refute those reasons. To do so, I had to resort to trying to see things from ZDS' perspective.
But if you seemingly didn't understand my initial reason for voting for Mister Snake, how could you hope to determine whether or not my vote on him was "OMGUS"?

Mister Wuffs, it seems to me that you are ONLY considering Mister Snake's perspective if you were to assume he is town. Why is that? And to answer your question, at least what I perceive the correct answer to be, Mister Snake was clearly hoping that enough people would want to lynch me as well, regardless of his alignment. Occam's Razor. However, now that I have made it clear that my first post was a red herring to lure in opportunism like we have seen in Mister Snake, with this information to consider, would your hypothetical vote still be on me were you in Mister Snake's position? Take into consideration, as well, my most recent posts.

He writes for channelfireball. I read a lot of games, and Magic articles. That was my out-of-game "shoutout", since I recognized the LSV nickname, but didn't know the owner was the real Levine right away.
Also, why'd you ask Atlseal/ZDS about the daytalk question? It seemed like a legitimate question to me.
What mod in their right mind is going to reveal that specific part of his set-up? So why ask?
The reason is I question the motive behind the question being asked. Asking it "in-thread" actually distances the player from the scum team in some people's minds. The assumption that comes is that the player asking the question doesn't know the answer and therefore must be town. I strongly dislike this assumtion.
Oh, one more thing: @pink': my friend, can we drop all potentially unfriendly national and gender-based discussion? Please?
I'm asking player to player and NH bro to SH bro (this goes or the other two participants as well, although I don't know you as well.) I would greatly appreciate it if we could focus on killing some scum instead.
Thanks in advance.

What do you think these interactions mean in regards to the alignment of Mister Wuffs and Mister Snake? For the sake of simplicity, assume that I am town in your consideration. (Or if you would prefer, you are free to present all possible outcomes of the situation, but that would just be a waste of time, if you ask me. ^^) Input, please. You have plenty of information to go off of, I think.
Thanks, Mister Artyface. ^^ I learned from the best.

What about my verbosity do you dislike?
I dislike "tl;dr" paragraph structure.
Apparently you're not the only one.
On a different matter, what is your take on the BlueElectric vs. Mister Snake and Mister Wuffs situation?
Generally I'm on your side of the argument, but I don't think it tells me your alignment. I'm really hoping you're wrong since ZDS will be very, very hard to lynch IMO.
What aspects of what I am presenting do you agree and disagree with?
As I defend newb players frequently, I agree with your observations of the game actions being performed. I'm unsure if you are correct about your evaluation of the motivations, though.
I strongly like how you defused the accusation of OMGUS.
What do you think these interactions mean in regards to the alignment of Mister Wuffs and Mister Snake?
Not sure. I'm pretty sure you aren't on a scum team with either of them though. That much has been established.
For the sake of simplicity, assume that I am town in your consideration.
Eh, for now I'll assume nothing. Keep posting though. Your content is great, and will make your alignment apparent in short order.

As for who taught me, that doesn't matter. ^^ But they're a good player, from what I understand, and if what you just said has any merit, then that just boosts my confidence in that fact.
Mister Snake's calling of Squeege and Yanni as town bothered me because it seemed to me like a subtle attempt at buddying in order to garner more support for my lynch. Sneaky Mister Snake.

Seems as if the random votes are falling off the tree. Shame, pitty really. Why do people unvote after the random stage - I've been beginning to wonder? Correct me if I'm wrong, but that just seems like people attempting to appear to do the 'right thing' as opposed to actually doing the 'right thing'.
@ZDS: Please show me an example of a newb asking about RVS popping scum, I also ask that you try to find a game where newb asking about RVS flips town.
Asking someone to find evidence to disprove their own assertion seems naive, at best. It is each person's responsability to prove their assertions, not prove the opposite. If you wish to disprove an assertion, the responsability falls upon you to do so.
What mod in their right mind is going to reveal that specific part of his set-up? So why ask?
I would, in fact. I'm pretty sure I always have, and I'm of the opinion that any mod worth their salt should provide the information unless there are game/role-based reasons not to. It makes a significant difference in how you read interactions that occur during the day. Did said players have the opportunity to discuss it behind the scenes, or was this the natural progression of at least this one person's reactions? Is a player being coached? I can't remember which game it was that I was playing, but I made the faulty assumption about a newer player having a town reaction after finding multiple pieces of evidence that were against him. It turned out at the end of the game that the mafia had day-talk and the more experienced players were instructing him on how to respond to the allegations to come out appearing town at the end. You have no idea how much this annoyed me. Reading player's reactions in a game (especially newer players) ceases to be a reliable means of analysis when said players are being coached behind the scenes.
I want to know if I'm playing against:
- A three person scum team (with each player having differing levels of scum skill)

I disliked your weak, opportunistic vote on me, Mr. Snake. That's hardly being flustered.
So I feigned inexperience and you pounced on it like a kitty? Good to know. ^^ Hey everyone, based on this information and Mr. Snake's defensiveness in this post, do you think he is a good guy or a bad guy?
I'm not asking you to post like me, I'm asking you to say something in your posts beyond confirming your existence, Mr. Floyd.
Sorry Mr. Jobie! ^^ I will be sure to vote correctly next time.
Does Mr. Yanni usually post a lot? Do his posts say something like mine do or all they all like Mr. Floyd's?

I've just been in a pissed off mood the past days because my arm is acting up and I'm in incredible pain.

LOL
There is a type of play, called OMGUS! logic, which you are currently enacting.
OMGUS stands for "Oh My God, You Suck!"
which is the phrase used to describe an action involving voting someone or calling them scummy for the sole reason of them voting for you.
Currently, can you honestly say that you are fighting ZDS for any reason other than the fact that he's voting for you?
If so, let me hear them.
If not, let's end this discussion here.
Based on the sole two examples you have posted so far, I would say he is still neutral. While he is being defensive, that in and of itself is not a sign of scum. The fact though that he is calling you out asking about RVS when at the time you showed all the signs of being a newb is opportunistic.
@ZDS: Please show me an example of a newb asking about RVS popping scum, I also ask that you try to find a game where newb asking about RVS flips town.
Last couple of games I played with him, yes.
Come join us in the MTGSalvation chat ||| My trade thread. ||| My Personal Modern Blog: The Fetchlands
Yep.
I kinda want to hear the reasoning, especially for me being town.
:confused2::confused:
Also, why'd you ask Atlseal/ZDS about the daytalk question? It seemed like a legitimate question to me.
Which question is that a "yes" to?
Yes, I've been around the Mafia block a few times in my days, Mister Squeege. I feigned inexperience to bait any members of the mafia who were looking to attack an easy target into pouncing, and lo and behold, Mister Snake fell for it like a textbook example! ^^ Have you played in any other games with Mister Snake or have you just read along? Can you explain to me how Mister Snake's town game differs from his mafia game? Or are you just chumming it up with him because he called you town?
Mister Wuffs, are you making fun of the way that I speak?
Seeing as it would be a hassle to reformat the quotes the way you have responded to them, I will just copy and paste them to respond to.
"Miss Blue, from what I see here, your reason for voting him is because you perceived his voting of you as bullying a newer player, but the thing is, that he cited a (from what I can see) valid meta argument for his vote.
You seem to have taken his vote the wrong way; he saw a scum tell and voted you for it. It's as good as any reason at the start of the game - we have zero information to go on, Miss Blue."
"I seriously doubt he was thinking in terms of a lynch. It's a crapshoot at this stage of the game anyways."
Mister Squeege seems to disagree with you on this matter, Mister Wuffs. What are you basing this statement on?
"Assuming that the same justification for the vote was applied, then, yes, I don't believe you would have voted him. Your vote still seems like it is more of a shocked reaction to being voted. You vote him because he voted you. You try to dress it up with looking for darker motivations, but...I don't see what ZDS did as scummy. He asked the question, and pressed the issue by voting you. You then voted him."
"I completely agree, ZDS is an experienced Mafia player - I read his first ever game, back in 2006-2007ish.
It's alignment-neutral."
Surely you realize the folly, Mister Wuffs, of applying somebody's tendencies as mafia to another player? Unless you feel that Mister Snake was applying a more general behavioral trait of mafia-aligned players to me, in which case, I must stress once again that he did not provide a citation of this nature; he merely stated it as a fact. However, if you can provide an example of this happening in a game you played in before Mister Snake can, it may reduce my suspicions of you for so avidly defending Mister Snake.

But if you seemingly didn't understand my initial reason for voting for Mister Snake, how could you hope to determine whether or not my vote on him was "OMGUS"?
Thank you, but my moniker is actually a reference to a Blaqk Audio song combined with my favorite color. ^^
Then on what grounds do you feel you are qualified to agree with it?
Defensive? Could you please show me where I was defensive, Mister Wuffs?
And what would you hope to accomplish by that? This ties in to my question of whether or not you would still be voting for me at this point in time.
What is your take on what you were addressing then now, as well as my responses to them?
But once again, I must beg the questions: Why are you only considering it from a town perspective, and why are you so up in arms about defending Mister Snake?
Aww, that's okay, Mister Wuffs! ^^
He writes for channelfireball. I read a lot of games, and Magic articles. That was my out-of-game "shoutout", since I recognized the LSV nickname, but didn't know the owner was the real Levine right away.
Yeppers. Glad to see someone else here still reads and plays. (Not a buddying statement Proph, don't panic :p)

Asking someone to find evidence to disprove their own assertion seems naive, at best. It is each person's responsability to prove their assertions, not prove the opposite. If you wish to disprove an assertion, the responsability falls upon you to do so.
- A three person scum team (with each player having differing levels of scum skill)
vs.
- A one person scum team with three lives
