After watching the first match- you traded a KOTR with a goblin guide, when you could have sacced your own land to draw a card. Conscious decision or mistake?

In Game 3? I traded with a Sulfur Elemental. I had to block with something because I didn't want to take the damage, and the Knight was the only thing that would trade with the Sulfur Elemental instead of just chumping it. My Knight had summoning sickness, so I couldn't activate his ability (and the only forest/plains I had in play was a Dryad Arbor, anyway).

Just watched it back- I forgot that Sulfur Elemental made KOTR minus 1 toughness. You had the mana open to sac Horizon Canopy, and leave a Heirarch untapped. And Strangleroot Geist trades with a 3/2 elemental. But yeah- KOTR would still only have been a 4/2, not a 3/3, so it doesn't matter! :P

For what it is worth, I did sacrifice the Horizon Canopy at the end of that turn. :P

I know- that's why I was even more confused as to why you didn't boost KOTR with it! :P

But yeah, non-issue. Right now I'm just amused at how bad your Jund opponent is.

so i took this to a ptq recently and didnt do to bad considering it was my first ptq. this is a little bit modified version of razorgores list as i dont have goyfs. i ended up going 3-3

match 1 vs URW delver tempo 2-0
first game we are both kinda shocking our selves to death here, he gets back a bit of life via helixes and im bashing away with a thrun. i drop to 5 via horizon canopys to play a geist and put myself really close to bolt and helix range. it pays off and i take game 1.
game 2 i dont really side anything and i get gifts into iona online and take game 2.

match 2 vs UW Tron 2-0
game 1 im not sure exactly what he is playing untill i see his hand wiht a vendilion then after that im rushiong for a kill. i play a thurn and he paths my clique. i gifts into iona at this point he is at 14 mana and 4 life. he plays a freaking ulamog and blows up iona luckily i have a path and thrun gets in for the 4.
game 2 i take out knights for venser to slow him a bit. the game goes for a bit and i have gifts and a clique in hand. i have some creatures on the field and really wanna go for elesh but i decide to make the smart play and flash in clicque on his draw. he was holding an emekrul and had the mana to play it. thank god for smart plays. he pulls an eye and is able to get emrakul but i have enough on the board to survive the annihilator and stills wing for the win its gg there.

3rd match vs twin 1-2
game i have no idea what he is playing im thinking its storm cause all i saw where slight of hand and visions. i make a mistake and play a knight instead of holding back the mana for a clique and sure enough he flashes in deciever and its gg
game 2 i side in pierces taking our knights. im able to beat with a monk for a bit and vendilion a splinter out of his hand. he is holding 2 kiki and 2 faeries, luckily he doesnt draw past 4 land he goes for the twin and i just barely pierce it for a win.
game 3 i got anhilated end of story

match 4 vs martyr 2-0
i know the guy and have played him numerous times. games 1 i literally ramp this guy to like 7 land on turn 4 i pathed like 3 dudes. i got there via dmg from monks and geist
game 2 i pull the gifts to iona trick and really what can ya do against that?

math 5 vs afinity 0-2
game 1, 3 etched champions.....didnt get eelesh or worship out
game 2, etched champion plus cranial.....im drawing awesomely bad

match 6 vs malaria pod 0-2
game 1 i didnt know what he was playing i was assuming junk or dorin and got beat
game 2 well i see malaria and a vamp. my inner thoughts are crap im screwed. he plays kitchen finks gaining a crap ton i try to gifts in response he cords for redcap and i die. i actually had a worship out when i died just no shroud guy. wouldnt have mattered as i had less cards in my library anyway.

i drop

made some mistakes but i think the deck held up really nice against alot of the field and if i had been a better pilot im pretty confident could have gone atleast 5-2 or 5-1-1. i really had no right losing that affinity match just bad draws happen. also i really should have studied the decks i dont play modern often so i was suprised to see tron is eldrazi as opposed to the old mindslaver lock

Ooooh! okay, I get what you're saying now. Yeah, the Sulfur Elemental meant the Knight would die anyway.

And, yeah, that Jund guy was so weird. Obviously, I made a lot of mistakes this event as you can all plainly see, but his line of plays just made no sense to me haha

@socketto: I'm just wondering if your curve isn't very high as you have 4 gifts, 3 worship, 2 thrun and 12 three drops. If they burn your mana accelerant I would think that it would be hard to keep up.

i didnt run into it so i cant really say. but from what ive noticed 3 mana is really what ya have to have which wasnt really an issue to accomplish. also with path being the most widely used removal that i ran into i didnt end up losing any real mana.

edit: I am also a big fan of the charm...even if its just 1 in the side. You never know when you are going to want that something 'extra'

Another thought is a Steelshaper's Gift over the 2nd fire and ice. Let's you almost run two of each sword... And run war and peace from the board. Mirran Crusader also fills at least any SB slots that ur not loving vs Jund, Rock, Melira (as a clock) and Loam. I'm also a huge advocate of Bant Charm, especially with Snapcasters in the list, but might be too late to try and squeeze that into a game plan. I would personally run at least 23 land, but haven't tried 22 so can't really comment. Anyway just ideas for you and good luck tomorrow, solid list! Let us know how it goes, I'll be taking my list to a PTQ next Sunday too.

Went 4-3-1 at today's PTQ. Drew with WB Martyr Proc, lost to a Jund list, UWB control and Twin. Beat caw blade, Jund, Jund with blue and my last opponent scooped to me.

Overall, not a great showing -never drew the worships when I boarded them in!
