I was wondering, why there are no male angels in the magic universe? did they all die in serra's realm or something? , Well beside the one that's in planar chaos, but they say he doesn't count as it was a alternate history or something..I know its a female dominated role, but Im pretty sure males can be angels too *cough* Gabriel, Micheal*cough* lol..Hell i wouldn't even care if they were archangels so as long as they were some types of angels..Is there any chance we would see any in the future or are male subjected to the demon role and females to the angel role..come to think of it, there is only one female demon too...
Ah yes, this is one of my pet peeves. One of my personal crusades!
It boils down to two things:
1) It's easy to develop a dichotomy between angels and demons if you split them down a gender line. With females generally considered the fair sex, they get the angelic treatment.
2) Marketing. Pure and simple, and it ticks me off.
For the record, there are a handful of male angels, but all of them are either errata'd or older than sin. Gabriel Angelfire and Melesse Spirit are both male.
The original art for Emerge Unscathed actually showed a male angel, and rather than leave it alone, they actually made Steve Argyle change it. It boils down to the fact that they want to push an unfair image to sell cards. On the one hand, I can't blame them, because it's their job to sell cards, but I wish they'd do it in a less overt and biased way.

Which was an alternate reality card, so it doesn't really count.
I think that's a coincidence, but I appreciate the humor of the happenstance. If it's not a coincidence, that's a pretty direct signal that they consider angels to be women.

Popping in here with the obligatory statement that "historical" angels (Michael, Gabriel, Azrael, etc.) aren't male, they're agender.
As for all Magic's angels being female, this does make sense; it fits perfectly into Wizards' grand scheme of showing women in powerful, non-submissive roles.

Also it fits into their seemingly olden way of thinking that cleavage and buttocks = automatic sale.

If you think about it, Creative's is being very nonsensical in insisting in female angels. Nobody's asking for angels to be exclusively female, and they could easily use female demons for fanservice (which would be more apropriate). Likewise, most female angels have been depicted in rather dignified ways lately, further reducing the need for them.
Aren't all angels just constructs of white mana anyways? I mean you wouldn't assign a demon a gender and it's a being made of black mana.
but unlike angels, there ARE half demons running around. Some of the darker parts of black include the exploitation of sex for power.
It shouldn't matter to a person creating a white mana being, but somehow it always comes out a warrior woman on the cards. I do want to stress that in the lore, we DO have instances of male angels, and those instances are just buried by the art department because they have things the way they want them.

Oh yes, I am always reminded of Kinidiern. I do not know if Lynn Abbey is throwing some shade with his depiction or is just pretty much getting inspiration from the biblical aesthetics of male angels.

getting inspiration from the biblical aesthetics of male angels.
The thing is, biblical angels aren't what people believe either.
Most of them are eldritch horrors, great flaming balls of fire with eyes, giant golden fiery wheels, four headed beasts with wings covered in a MILLION EYES.
So yeah... angels are not what people think to start with. Magic is actually borrowing more on the Valkyrie mythology for their inspiration than angels.
I for one would love to see actual seraphs. They're depicted as fiery snakes with six wings (sometimes implied to have legs and feet they cover with the wings), which would make them White-aligned DRAGONS.
Why so many female angels?
the others pointed it out: it markets well.
Chicks with wings are HOT (ask Victoria's Secret).
I think it's also a bonus for the artists assigned to paint an angel. i know, as an artist, I'd rather create a piece with a hot chick with wings, as opposed to something like, say, a bunch of Kithkin.
Do not forget. Vault of the archangel (insert card) is a permenantly biased card. Along with Gather the Townsfolk and the also manipulated (permenant manipulation is a advertisant theme and the only one that is 'required shutdown'...) and the other cards. You see, Vault of the Archangel is a male only card. It is the only new card in the newest sets. In DA, every angel is male, and in all prior sets, such as lorwyn with the fae, and also in older sets,- MALES ALWAYS had the priority as angels.
You guys are looking at this in a really restricted way, since it is also true that every or most female angels are also manipulated without the male counterpart.
Vault of the Archangel is the same thing (also) as the oldschool Meegrim (the most famous or popular version of the demand for male angels imo).
You will see in the future 100% dominance of male angel role vs female angel role (there are no female angels and the female demons do not exist more but less than the male demons exist over the male angel and demon synch. Also, this should be the specification). Don't look down.

well we also get alot from Renaissance and middle ages depiction of angels which is where the winged person persona of angel made it into Christianity and eventually more common mythos.
Never thought about it before, but female demons would be hot indeed. Also note that even Eldrazi have two genders assigned to them, even though they are much more sexless in their nature than angels.

Well.... they don't REALLY have sex assigned to them. They have bastardized legends with genders based around their essence.
MTG's angels are more seducers than warriors. They like showing off their legs and their panties. I wished WOTC would stop this because they are my favorite mythic creatures, I like them powerful not weak looking like Angel Flight Alabaster.
They should create cute demons, as seducing is more black than white. Their demons are terribly ugly. With those faces and bad attitude, having throngs of followers/admirers should be impossible IMO.

Kinda feel like the archons sealed any chance of male angels, they're essentially the same spot in design and are male.

Also, many angels are portrayed in a dignified light, so fanservice can't be the only or even the main reason.

Yeah... and you didn't look at what I had already posted did you? I already linked that one in the FIRST post I made? But it's older than dirt.
@Existabrent: ... I have no idea what you're saying. I don't think any of what you just typed makes sense.
@Mulleronis: The Seraph aren't flaming snakes, they are vaguely humanoid beings of light whose eyes, and feet are covered by two pairs of their wings.
Well.... they don't REALLY have sex assigned to them. They have bastardized legends with genders based around their essence.
They are described with snake attributes. Hell, their name comes from Sarap, a word for venemous snakes.
