Red White control could be a powerful deck in standard if more people gave it a try. It has removal in all shapes and sizes, combined with strong burn spells and powerful creatures this deck is nasty to any opponent. What it may lack for in card draw it gains with flashback, allowing to reuse a number of cards.
Here is my current list,
It has been tested for a few days and could still use a bit of work
whipflare & DoJ
these are two strong mass removal cards. I have found that a 3:2 split of them work better than slagstorms.
Fiend hunter
Fiend hunter is pretty good in this deck, he adds that extra removal spot while adding a body to my side of the field ( he could be replaced though if anyone has ideas)
Wurmcoil Engine
Wurmcoil engine is a power house in any deck, my reasons for having him here are obvious. Although some may argue for Inferno Titan I think wurmcoil is better here. The 3 damage ability isn't helpful on creatures because my burn has already taken them out. So 9 damage per attack doesn't help as much as 6 with lifelink plus and awesome ability if killed.
Urabrask the hidden
Hmmm...? Why urabrask some will ask. Urabrask is a great card, he burdens your opponents cretures but also adds haste to all of your cards, plus he is a 4/4 body. The haste is actually very helpful w/ midnight haunting, not to mention there are very few answers to wurmcoil with haste.
Faithless looting
This provides card draw, plus has flashback, so it can be used again. The discard has not been an issue.
Devils play & red suns zenith
both versatile burn spells, that can do anything from taking out 1/1's to winning the game for you with massive burn to your opponents face. Flashback is nice but so is being able to exile cards (especially with all of the undying and graveyard based creatures). So I went with a 2:1 split which has been working excellent.
Misc burn - geistflame, incinerate, arc trail
Geistflame - find targets against any deck, flashback is nice.
Incinerate - versatile instant, anytime on anyone
arc trail - very strong small creature removal, that can take out 1 or 2 creatures and deal leftover damage to your opponent, would be a 4 of if it were an instant.
Oblivion ring
Most versatile removal in standard, excellent card
Midnight haunting
Many people forget that before lingering souls was printed this card was the talk of the town. Unfortunately it does not have flashback , but it is an instant.
Runechanter's Pike
Extra wincon + is hard for control to get rid of, unless they counter it.
Druidic satchel
Adds that extra card draw I need, while providing 1/1's and gaining life.
Moltensteel dragon
a versatile, fast threat that can deal lots of damage and is usually unexpected. This is a card I originally would look over, but after playing with it, I have found it is a very strong and underrated card.

Matchups
Werewolves
Very good in this matchup, so far haven't had an issue. shut them down early with removal and burn, then its a straight walk to the finish line because they have no answer for your cards
Graveyard based decks (u/g)
Win this most times, occasionally let a ghoultree through but after throwing in some nihil spellbombs its game over.
U/B and U/B/W
this is the toughest matchup looking on ways to make this better.
some of the burn is taken out of the equation. It is usually a grudge match between who finally lands a fattie for more than a turn. They usually get one down first because I eventually run out of steam with card draw. (faithless looting can only do so much). Compared to all of their card draw options. Although this matchup is still neck and neck. A number of games have come down to nephalia drownyard. Edit: the inclusion of runechanters pike and druidic satchel have halped this matchup out a lot. 60/40 right now I would say.
Heartless summoning
Take some of their key cards out of board with removal and it is game over, not a very hard matchup.
Humans
good matchup, very similar type of game as werewolves. Take out there cards and drop some fatties.
Delver
55/45 against delver. Most the same issues as UBW control decks although since this strays a little bit from complete control I can win this just as many times as they can. Edit: inclusion of runechanters pike and druidic satchel has helped this matchup. Winning more then i loose now.
G/W natural justice
This is a pretty good matchup. Not as easy as aggro, but if i take out sword of war and peace then I usually win, unless they slip in a lucky card and catch me off guard.
Frites
Pretty strong matchup as well.
Occasionally I get a bad draw and don't have the right removal, but usually not a problem. After I side in nihil spellbombs the chances of them winning get slimmer.
As you can see this deck is strong, it's only real issue is against U/b(w) control.
Do you play against any Tempered Steel builds? In that matchup, Whipflare will be useless. You could try Slagstorm instead but the double red could be a problem so consider using Ratchet Bomb.
Thanks for the feedback. druidic satchel will be tested, it doesn't hurt to put ratchet in the side i guess. But with all my other mass removal it is really only affective against tempered steel. Wow i completely forgot about nihil spellbomb, that is going in for sure.Sun titan is breaking the bank right now, so it is worth a try. It is odd that i have played 30+ games with this and not run into tempered steel, so I will see how that plays out. Thanks!
say hi to phyrexian crusader for me.
protection doesn't protect from world effect, so whipflare and DoJ can still kill it.

DoJ kills Crusader, but Whipflare does not. Slagstorm and Whipflare (and Pyroclasm, Flamebreak, Volcanic Fallout, etc.) deal damage, which means that creatures with protection survive. Quoth MTG Wiki: For creatures with protection, all damage that would be dealt to it from sources of that quality is prevented.
Countless Crusders, Etched Champions and probably even a few Vulshok Refugees have been wrongly swept away by Slagstorm on Cockatrice/Workstation.
I actually played a RW Control deck for a while before DKA came out. Because of all the sweepers, it had a decent match-up against certain aggro, but like you said UB/Esper control are nearly impossible. Their card draw is far superior, even with the addition of Faithless Looting and obviously counterspells are tough to deal with.

Thank you, I did not actually realize that, Ratchet bombs can be sided in for whipflares then.
I actually just added druidic satchels, and the card draw has been running much smoother.( I play MTGO so I can add cards instantly)
I actually just beat an esper control because of druidic satchel. It is a way stronger card than I originally thought. The saproling are nice chump blockers, and the land feature is really great. It gets lands out of you way and even lets you play two in one turn.
I think I will try out runechanter's pike. It could be an additional wincon with all the instants and sorceries in this deck.
Adding black gives you better spot removal, Lingering Souls, Liliana of the Veil, and Olivia Voldaren. I don't think 3 colors is TOO hard to be honest. Surprised you're not doing that instead. Batterskull wouldn't hurt here either. How does 24 lands work for you? I also think Karn Liberated deserves a spot in every control deck. He's a problem for just about everything.
I've been thinking about scrapping what I have in my blog and going for BWR instead. Stuff would be more consistent, but I'd lose Forbidden Alchemy (best card in the deck) and counters.

24 lands has been fine, I haven't run into many mana problems. Karn and batterskull would not hurt, but I don't see black adding all that much. I already have creature removal, and have really never had a problem with it. The flashback for lingering souls would be nice. But lilliana and olivia voladren really don't seem crucial to this deck.
I've been looking for something to combat the Token/Delver/Geist decks that half of the people at FNM use, and this looks pretty fun to play in general.
I just made this build, no testing, and I'm trying to mostly use cards that I have or can get for a fairly cheap price
Opinions? Some of the card in there are just placeholders: (Chandra, Sun Titan, Kruin Oulaw) because I need another Gideon and an Inferno Titan(s). Prolly won't get any more Mirran Crusaders cause of their price though.
321orez. It looks like a very interesting build, a new spin on this type of deck. I agree with another gideon, inferno titans. This build though looks like it is dying for a sword if you can afford or trade for one.. Mirran crusader + SoWaP is basically game over. 4 whipflares seem like a lot in this deck, especially considereing it can kill a lot of you creatures too. Maybe put 1 or 2 in a SB, for the pesky token and spirit decks. In terms of the rest of the SB my main post up top has a pretty sstandard one for most metas. Good luck with your deck!
321orez's build seems more midrange than control to me, but it's pretty cool regardless. Zenith, im LOVING this deck. Here's a couple ideas:
Chandra, the Firebrand is very underused right now, and doubling RSZ/Devils play is just insane. Also shes a great card to drop after a sweep, and allows you to maybe run a couple Tezzeret's Gambit for effective card advantage. She also helps against control, as walkers are notoriously hard to deal with for U/B and she doubles your removal. Lastly, try putting Surgical Extractions in your SB instead of spellbomb and double it on the same turn she hits the field =P shenanigans
Nevermore is always a good plan for the sideboard.
Elesh Norn is pricey right now but just CURB-STOMPS the meta and might be fun as a 1-of.
Moltensteel Dragon is awfully versatile with regards to when you play him. Play him for 4 and you have a blocker against a ramped titan, play him for 5 and he enters a recently sweeped field, play him for 6 and he has haste with Urabrask. He also plays fantastically well with Wurmcoil/Satchel and whatever other lifegain you think of.
Lastly, if you decide to go the route of more burn Increasing Vengeance could be a fun option.
Im favouriting this thread incase i think of something new.
Thanks for the feedback derenthor. IDK if you are talking to me or321 but there are good suggestions eithe way. Chandra's a card I have always just glanced over, but you made some good points so I will try it. I actually have been trying to get my hands on an Elesh Norn already. Moltensteel dragon definetly seems like an interesting card, I might try it out.
Ha, I was thinking Mirran Crusader was pro-red for some reason...oops. I think I might replace it with etched champion. Expensive cards are outta the question ($10+) as I'd need to sell 3/4 of my rares to almost have enough for SoWaP
I wasn't thinking about Chandra's -2 with draw cards, specifically Tezzeret's Gambit. Seems like a good idea for me.
I think 4 whipflare main are necessary for me right now because everyone at my FNM are using a combination of token/giest/delver. It will take out their creatures while leaving most of mine intact, or unharmed at all. The only thing that bugs me right now is life gain, so I may add or side Timely reinforcements in addition to Nevermore, Leonin Relic-Warder and so on.
EDIT: If I were to destroy a Wurmcoil Engine with Red Sun's Zenith it make tokens still?
@321orez. I understand the budget, Runechanter's pike is another equipment that works well, not to say you even need any equipment at all. Etched champion would indeed be a good call with with your deck.(If you added a few more artifacts like wurmcoil engine(if you can afford it), pike, moltensteel dragon, etc. You could even go somewhat of a metalcraft route and use cards like galvanic blast and Jor Kadeen, the prevailer.)
Hi, I'm toying with a no-blue version. I'm in a heavy aggro meta and I tried to follow the "playing and sticking with BV is a win more but the deck has to run without him".
Here is my rough playlist, I splash black for the lingering souls flashback and sever the bloodline.
I like the idea of burning vengeance meaning extra value from the cards you play. I considering splashing blue instead of white but flashbacking lingering and 2 damage is awesome. I also have a sweet spot for sweepers as aggro players will avoid overcommiting and give you time to stabilize the board.
Koth is really troublesome for UB and O-Ring is very versatile. Geistflame is really good to ping accelerators and get first blood on strangleroot.
I played a casual match before FNM last week, and the opponent had a deck sort of like this. Early sweepers and removal to allow them to make it to the late game.
I only played him twice, so I can't say that I saw everything, but here's what I did see:
It was quite the beating when he landed a Wurmcoil, then was able to recur it with Hippogriff... then recur it again with Buried Ruin. Seems like an interesting deck.

@FakeDutch Cool deck! A nicely put together R/W/b burning vengeance of this deck. Chandra, the firebrand seems like it could work well in this deck, it lets you be able to get even more usage out of your cards. You could get 6 tokens out of lingering souls, or kill someone with a doubles hot devil's play. + it fits nicely with your planeswalker rather than creature sub theme.

I played against a lifegain deck and the one card that was killing me was venser's journal He was gaining tons of life and with elixirs like you have he was able to have tons of card draw. His basic game plan was drogskol reavers and venser's journal.
I have been playing a UW Token Control deck for a while and have recently decided to change it to WR in order to combat a heavy aggro meta. This is what I have currently decided on but am looking for feedback to tune it. It is built to handle aggro and control decks. The objective is to drop an early shrine and then control the game long enough to win through a shrine activation or one of the other late game bombs. I could use some advice on tuning this, but as it stands I think it is competitive.
