No, there is no "world" pvp. It all happens in arenas or eventually 1v1 duels (maybe)

Quote:
PvP (short for 'player versus player' combat) has had a storied history in the Diablo series. For Diablo III, we've decided to take it in a new direction to ensure that it's deep, organized, frantic, and fun.

Diablo III's PvP battles are fought in arenas spread out across the world of Sanctuary. These arenas aren't random -- they're all unique, designed with differing amounts of terrain and cover. You participate in PvP using the character of your choice, with access to all of the gear and skills you've accumulated playing the game in single-player or cooperative mode.

You'll learn many of the fundamentals of PvP (like how to avoid attacks or target specific foes) by playing the single-player game, but PvP differs in that it isn't an ideal venue for gathering new weapons and armor. Your rewards for shedding blood in the arena are purer than that: bragging rights, the joy of sending friends old and new to their swift and inglorious deaths, and points that represent how far you've progressed on the path to fame and glory.

When you participate in ranked games (fights that pit two opposing teams of players against each other in 'best of' matches), you'll earn points for advancement based on kills, accomplished objectives, wins, and other factors. Points lead to multiplayer achievements, titles, and more. Our system is focused on encouraging furious combat and multiplayer progression, not stringent competitive rankings, so you'll earn points after every match and Battle.net matchmaking will pit you against similarly skilled opponents.

We're also looking into other PvP game types that exist outside the ranking system, like 1-on-1 duels and mutually chosen team battles (for example, you and your friends could divide into two teams for an arena showdown). We'll have more information on the availability of these game types in the future.

Our aim for Diablo III's PvP is to set you up with dangerous, exciting gladiatorial matches, let you battle it out with other players at your own pace, and allow you to proudly display your rewards. We've added a robust system to remove the obstructions that may have kept you out of the action, so that you can focus on what really matters: answering the age-old question of 'who would win in a fight' -- with a gauntlet to the face.

There's no world PvP yet, but they'll probably patch in dueling sometime down the road. They won't go back to the one sided PK system from d2, though.

I assume dueling will be patched in after arenas.

Arena's are their top priority on the PVP standpoint since it was supposed to be in at launch.

I know that Diablo 2 had a very strong following of 1v1 so they will likely cater to that crowd eventually with a free patch.

Nope they have stated no 1v1 world pvp or duels and all pvp will be done through arenas.

that is correct. they said they couldn't get the arenas where they wanted them in time for the launch and they were not going to delay the launch just for pvp.

it will be patched in later as a free update.

once the arena's get there i am sure you can customize it for 1v1 battles. i am not sure i think it would be bad if they didn't

They have only commented on no world PVP a dueling system has never been fully rejected by them.

I would be surprised if within 6-12 months after launch the ability to duel is not added.

It would be a minor thing to add have no impact on those that hate PVP and make a decent % of the player base happy its win/win.

Welcome,

I like the new skill setup better than that old one.

I know the one biggest complaint i have seen is the problem with weapon restrictions on classes with the demon hunter having the biggest restrictions of all.

I semi don't have an issue with this. Yes i like open weapon systems as much as the next guy but like in dnd there are certain classes that can't wield certain weapons.

I know they redesigned the loot system on this so that it isn't who has the quickest click finger or in D2 loot bot. can anyone give a bit more of a light on how it works now. i have heard a couple of different things.

Sure. It is the same system they are implementing in wow kind of.
Basically each player generates and receives their own loot.
So even if there are 4 of you diablo (10 or 25 in wow) you will be treated as if it was only you receiving loot. What you receive is independant of all other party members.

In Wow this is done by a private personal automated roll and if you get above say 75 (example not fact) you receive loot suitable to you.

In Diablo you don't automatically get loot suited to you but you are guaranteed a drop from boss no matter wether solo or grouped and that is yours , other players in group also get their own drops.

that is what i thought. one thing i hated about d2 was running a group and not getting anything out of it.

might not get what i want but at least i get something. of course if you play solo this isn't an issue.

have the updated the player trade window? i know in d2 it was easy to try and scam people in the trade window.

IIRC all trades will be via the AH or mail so no chance of scams.

Nope there is a trade window, it has been updated slightly it does require both parties to agree to trade (but so did diablo 2) with constant online connection though it is less prone to lag outs that caused issues in d2.
I imagine people may still get scammed but I haven't seen it so far.

The issue in D2 was that once you hit ok they could change their item out and you were pretty much stuck with it.

so that nice botd hammer you were trying to trade for would get swamped out for nothing.

that was th eonly issue really.

Right, but since it's through the server rather than peer to peer hosted where the server only helps you connect and then doesn't care too much it shouldn't be an issue.

Don't see the draw to direct trading anyhow with the AH for gold though.
