So my friends finally got me to build an EDH deck to play with them, so I went out and bought Devour for Power because out of all the legends in the set I liked Damia the best. I added in a bunch of other singles, and this is what I came up with.
So the idea behind this deck is that its a toolbox deck that has answers to everything, usually in the form of creatures. Typically, i start out by trying to ramp a bit, allowing me the option of playing Damia. By the time I actually DO play her, my hand is depleted, so I can make the most of her ability, and I have some sort of protection on the board for her, such as flash (so I can play her EOT), persist, undying, or shroud.
The reason I have so many creatures is that I have a subtheme of sacrifice, discard, and recur. The discard is there to help empty my hand and gain other useful effects from cards that I may not need, like turning a land into a fog with Dawnstrider. The sac outlets are there to allow me to take advantage of recurring ETB creatures, trigger exit TB creatures like mindslicer, and provide me useful effects like lifegain from Miren. Finally, the recur allows me to really shape my hand and reuse powerful effects such as removal with duplicant, shriekmaw, or kagemaro, or ramp with solsim.
This deck typically wins by overwhelming people with card advantage with Damia or by consistently answering everything they play with engines like mimic vat. I have found that the most powerful ability in this deck is flash, as it completely removes the drawback of playing so many creatures, and it oftentimes makes for a lot of unexpected blowouts, like flashing in mikaeus in response to a wrath.
Also important to note is that my playgroup allows for up to 3 proxies whose total value adds up to about $50 (TCGplayer mid). As of now, I am proxying Havengul Lich, Exploration, and Genesis, which add up to about $49.
