My playgroup recently expressed interest in playing pauper. so we all promised each other we'd have a list sooner or later. I have spent the day perusing the Gatherer for possible commanders and cards. these are the rules we adopted
1- the commander can be any common or uncommon creature.
2- If a cart was printed at common at some point, it is fair game.
3- no carsd costing over 5$.
4- All of the cards in the deck are commons. no uncommons or timeshifted cards, unless they fall within rule 2.
I finally decided to play with mistmeadow witch. the number of good ETB effects here are pretty good. you have access to two soft locks (vedalken dismisser and stonehorn dignitary), you can use it to kill opposing tokens or aura-based removal. it laughs at (some) voltron lists, and cn be used as an expensive tapper.
They're banned in 60 card pauper (e.g. modern pauper / legacy pauper), NOT in pauper EDH. For one of the two uncommons you have in there (see above), you should add mystic remora. The card is absolute busted and one of the best draw spells / mana cost.
How does gulf squid soft lock? mistmeadow creatures return to the play on the end step. Can't they just untap on the next turn?
Sorry, misremembered Mistmeadow Witch's ability - but you could use Archaeomancer/Scrivener/Mnemonic Wall + Ghostly Flicker/Cloudshift/that other flashback one.
Flicker the 'mancer with Witch, when he returns bounce the flicker spell to your hand, cast it at the start of their turn... tap ALL THE LANDS!!!
And it's not as though any of those combo pieces are 'dead cards' - all of them can do yeoman's work in the deck if you don't have the Witch out.
In my Mistmeadow build, I play Sage's Row Denizen and it works beautifully with the blink. It adds a whole new win condition and with Vedalken Dismisser it adds removal as well!
